    My wife (who I thought was my husband for 11 years) finally came out as trans in her 40s a few years ago. When she first started going out into the world as female-presenting, I was so worried for her. Fortunately, though, the area where we live in England seems like a pretty safe place to be trans. And I'll be clear, my wife doesn't "pass". She is 6 feet tall, has a deep voice, and a classically handsome face. However, all of her coworkers with whom she'd shared an office space for 12 years immediately started referring to her as Mrs and using she/her pronouns. No one has bothered her in the streets other than one or two odd looks.
    She'd only been out as trans a short while and feeling great in a beautiful skirt she just got, when some teenagers approached her. One of the girls openly asked if she was trans. When my wife said yes, this teen girl looked at her and said, "I really rate you." It made my wife's day.

    We think we saw a poll that said that 90-something percent of lesbians are trans inclusive, and even then, we'd absolutely argue it's a descriptor and not a rule one must follow; if you consider yourself lesbian but find a trans or nonbinary person attractive, that shouldn't break some sacred seal of lesbianism, that's just... sexuality, romance, and identity became too divided in modern days, we like things in neat little boxes and we like to belong to them. for most of history the concept of "homossexuality" wasn't even a thing, people slept with people of the same or opposite sex, and depending on your culture it would be accepting or rejected, but almost never classified as it's own state of being, just something some people did. that is because those things are spectrums, not fixed points. but the tribalistic nature of humanity makes us create groups that we belong to based on our internal identity, and I believe the interconectivity of the globalized world made it much MUCH stronger.
      sadly though the necessity to belong is too strong, and even after saying that I'm also a victim of this mentality. I feel sexual atraction for trans women, but not romantic atraction. why ? I don't know, but most of it could be just internal bias, there is zero reason for me to feel that way, but that is how I feel. so (personally) it's completely understandable that for someone their sexuality is so much part of their identity, that even the idea of being atracted to someone of a gender that don't validate their sexuality can be stressful as it put their identity and sense of belonging in danger. something that is valid for anyone in any place of the spectrum.

      Which is also why I present myself as ultra woke, because I do both and I like triggering conservative and theist snowflakes and normalising healthy ideas as opposed to ridiculing things like curiosity and having actually learned things. I think it's important to encourage healthy things and discourage destructive things like conservatism and theism and other forms of (self) abuse, so consequently I have the urge and need to actually do that instead of just saying stuff and doing the opposite like all theists and other conservatives.

    when I was 23, I worked at Crater Lake National Park in my home state of Oregon, and because it's at the top of a mountain and many miles from any towns...the employees lived in dorms there. In our dorm, there was one big bathroom for the girls, and one for the guys. The guys bathroom had a big open shower with zero privacy, and very few of us wanted to use it. The girls bathroom was slightly better...separate shower stalls, but still very little privacy. They DID, however, have one little private room with a bathtub and a locking door. BTW, this was 20 years ago. Because the girls understood how the guys hated the lack of privacy...especially us gay ones (you could say I'm a "normal gay", but I would never identify as "normal" by any definition), they had ZERO problem with the guys using their bathroom...including their private bathtub. In fact, they encouraged us to use it. That was the last year that building existed, thankfully. They tore it down and built a new one. I've never seen the new one, but I'm guessing the bathroom situation is more private. It's interesting, tho...I'm sure a lot of those girls from back then are on the "right" with the whole trans bathroom debate, when back then, a decade or so before it became a political issue, they didn't mind it at all. Not a single girl there cared in the slightest if guys used their bathroom (and vice versa. Both bathrooms were treated as unisex, even tho they technically weren't). Funny how people can be totally not bothered by something, but that thing suddenly becomes a political or societal issue that everyone's talking about, and now they've got a HUGE problem with it. When I was a kid, dads would take their young daughters to the women's restroom if their mom wasn't around...and no one had a problem with it. It's literally never been illegal for men to use a women's public restroom or vice versa. Not in the US. It was always just a courtesy...but there were cases when exceptions were made, and when they were, no one cared. It's only an issue now because of transphobia...which I find very sad. On a side note...I'm a cis gay man, and I definitely wouldn't be opposed to dating a trans man, even if he still had female genitalia. Just saying. I admit it would be weird for me...at least at first...but since sex isn't the most important part of a relationship, it wouldn't be a big deal for me. If other cis gay men wouldn't date a trans man, that's okay. You like what you like. But if you think that most gay people truly care as much about genitalia as you do, you're an idiot. And if you're judging people based on their genitalia...you're an idiot AND an asshole (and you clearly have some issues that you should mention to your therapist). Just live and let live. Let people be their authentic selves. I'm just old enough to have lived in a time when the gay community was still fighting for basic rights, and all we wanted was to be our true selves without fear of being denied basic shit...like housing, or the right to marry or adopt kids. When the younger "normal gays" refuse to accept people based on how they identify, or what's between their legs, it makes me sad. Too much of the gay community has become what we fought AGAINST for so long, and I truly hope we can correct that soon.

      Thomas Jefferson us often referred to as the first libertarian (along with Thomas Paine). Jefferson advocated for a 100% inheritance tax (along with Franklin) and was able to convince Adans to sign a moderate inheritance tax. The purpose of that tax was to prevent plutocracy. Jefferson also proposed a progressive geometric tax on land, so the more land you owned the higher percentage of tax you were required to pay. It was specifically designed to destroy land monopolies, and zero tax on small farms and small land holdings.
      The US „libertarians“ who chant „taxes are theft“ are a type of pseudo-libertarianism that was manipulated by wealthy oligarchs to obfuscate the term „libertarian“. For Jefferson all institutions that served a self interested minority at the expense of the majority should not be allowed to exist and ought to be dismantled.
      And it is obvious in their writings, for example pseudo-libertarians will even go out of their way to distort John Locke, because Locke viewed private property as a means for a person to secure the fruits of their labor. The Lockean Proviso is the principle that there should be enough property left for others, which the pseudo-libertarians purposely left out of the Lockean literature. The ideal was universal property ownership which would create sovereign citizens who were not subjected to manipulation from landlords. Adam Smith also viewed landlords as parasites.

    As a bisexual, I am a bit worried about the new definition of lesbian as "attraction to every gender except CIS men. In abstract I don't care about this definition, in practice it worries me given thatbisexual women have been historically ostracized by the lesbian community on the basis of their attraction to men (and thus, being attacked for being perceived as not loyal or as less politically "correct" to the lesbian/feminist cause). I hope this new definition will not result in new discourse of bisexual women being less politically "woke" than lesbian people as, per this new definition, they are attracted/have relationships with cis men.
    This does not relate personally to me as a bisexual trans person that is in mostly T4T relationships, but it makes me worried for my bisexual sisters that have endured decades of ostraticazion and discrimination both outside and inside the gay and lesbian community, and I would not want this new definition to result in another wave of biphobic misogyny.

      Since the majority of sapphics are bi women , I don't think that's likely. Never seen anyone say bi women were 'less woke' for dating men, though sapphics who aren't attracted to nonbinary people are sometimes criticised for this.

Right from the start, literally as soon as I came out to myself and started trying to explore my identity onliine (not even in person), there were loud voices everywhere from random reddit users to the major LGBTQI organisations (not a typo, these orgs explicitly stop after the I and exclude ace people) telling me to shut up and be grateful for the status quo. I spend enough mental energy trying to get private prescriptions and actually find pharmacies willing to fill said perfectly legal prescriptions, ignore the active research in this country trying to link trans identity to pollutants, and just cope with all the anxiety and depression that builds up when trying to transition in a country that has made it very clear that trans people are not actually welcome, why would I spend my free time going into spaces with cis queers waiting to tell me I deserve it for being alive?

I hope those who are trying to exclude others from their group will come to realize they may be repeating the very mistake that society has made and which has brought so much pain to their own lives.

    My understanding of the body positivity movement was that it was just saying 'don't bully people over their weight' and that there are different body types, not everyone can attain the same level of 'thin' no matter how hard they try. Also there is a huge contradiction with how the right feels about body positivity, because they get upset when they get told they can't bully people over their weight and claim this means people are 'encouraging morbid obesity', but on the flipside because Corporations like to cut corners and sell unhealthy food without any regulations, Conservatives and especially the far-right love to defend unhealthy food products and claim regulations are the same as 'removing freedoms', when really they are about protecting the health of the consumer. So basically the right is just pushing the worst of both worlds, all attacking the body positivity movement is about is just purely about their right to bully people, it has nothing to do with caring about healthy lifestyles.

      @lloroshastar6347 6 місяців тому

      @@kuggacouragegx6093 Well that's the thing, these extremists are so obscure that you have to scour the internet to find them, like almost every single person in the body positivity movement just says 'bullying people into being thin is counter productive' and 'not everyone has the same body type so not everyone should expect to be that body type'. Even body positive models are usually just people with some curves, they aren't people in any actual danger of impacting their health.
      But when it comes to the extremes of those who are against the body positivity movement, or against LGBTQ+ people or scientific reasoning or people who aren't 'white', these extremists are much more prevalent in number. I mean, I only have to log into Twitter to see them in their thousands, calling for extreme laws to be passed, people with millions behind them, huge platforms being broadcast all over the world, not just some random TikTok or tiny UA-cam channel that had like 20 views until someone stumbled on it to hate watch it.
      The examples of extremism are much more prevalent on one side than they are on the other. Also we see a massive exaggeration of what's considered 'extreme' at times. Only this weekend in my country a Conservative politician called the main opposition, the Labour party, 'hard left', but the majority of the Labour Parties policies are moderate centrist policies, there is virtually nothing about them that is 'hard left' whatsoever.
      I think that the overton window has moved so far to the right that something fairly mild or moderate is now considered 'extreme', whereas on the right the most extreme policies and ideologies are now believed to be more 'moderate'. This idea that there is a huge movement of people trying to turn everyone obese is just a lie, and the main thing making the majority of people obese is actually the lack of regulation in corporations who are able to get away with putting tonnes of sugar and salt in their food to try to get people to buy more of it.
