  • In this video, I will be an old landscape lighting system by replacing the old fixtures and replacing the old wireless timer with a hardwired timer. Most of the original halogen fixtures are broken and not working, so those will be replaced to new LED models. And the wireless timer for the system hasn’t worked right in a few years so it will be replaced with a reliable hardwired timer. This was a fun project to work on, and I hope you all will enjoy watching it!

    A few things that a I forgot to mention the white lightalarms exit signs in Lebanon. OH that were at Papa Johns, and the apartment building both had plastic faces so they were probably from the early 90s, but I think the one at Speedway had a brush aluminum face so I was probably a little bit older, but I also remember seeing one of these white lightalarms signs at Dayton center courts in Trotwood, Ohio I think it was a non combo battery backup, and had a plastic faceplate so it was also a newer model from the early 90s.Now with the older signs you can usually tell if the housing is metal or plastic usually on metal signs you will see diagonal creases on each corner of the housing frame older emergi lite, sure lites, mule lighting, and other signs have these cerases on each corner of the housing frame. However on older plastic signs like lightalarms or chloride signs, you will not see these creases on the corners of their housing frames. It will just be solid kind of like the black plastic frame around a flat screen TV. So these signs are plastic! I also forgot to mention an older Hubbell dual lite plastic with a rounded bottom. These were kind of rare as well, but I thing you could see the punch out grooves glow from the side, but I think that the backplates of these signs were usually metal so no glow in the back, but these signs also had modern chevron faceplates, but the older taller style! They were also mostly in the non combo battery backup type when you saw them in buildings!
    Have a happy new year!

    Great video man! You made up your boxes correctly and neatly! I was at a job where they had open splices in the soil and they wondered why things weren’t working properly lol some people just shouldn’t be in the field.

    Cont. So anyway these lightalarms signs as part of the UX series probably also had some changes over the years regarding the bottom vents. They probably started out with the single glass screen on the bottom of the sign, that most older signs you see have instead of vents, and then they probably used the vents in the mid 1980s instead of the single glass screen! When you look at the bottom of an older Emergi Lite or Lightalarms sign you will see four vents, however if you look at the bottom of an older sure lites, or Mule lighting sign you will see three vents, and sometimes with older Emergi Lite signs you will probably see a glass screen but it is divided in four sections, and this sign is probably from the early 80s! Although in my high school in the Math Wing there were black battery backup Emergi lite exit signs with brush aluminum faceplates some of them were the classic style arrow faceplates, but only a few of them had the chevron faceplates, they also had the single glass screen at the bottom with no divisions so they were probably very old signs! Back to the Lightalarms signs that I was talking about, so the faceplates on the older lightalarms signs, probably did not have the chevron style arrows, only the classic style arrows including the plastic faceplate in the early 90s also had the classic arrows, which is pretty rare to encounter! Because most exit signs you see today are all plastic, and have chevron arrows. They also glow. the punch out grooves out the back if they're white because they're plastic! This classic arrow plastic faceplate I assume was only used on Emergi Lite X10 series signs during the 80s, and the Lightalarms UX series signs during the early 90s only! And usually if you look at older exit signs If they are battery backup they will look like upside down spongebobs because they have a shorter built in compartment on top for the backup battery, and a test switch to test the alternative illumination unit inside the sign, and the same goes with older combos as well, but usually the emergency lights are usually mounted on the front part of the battery component above the sign but sometimes on the sides either the sign part or the battery compartment, but most combos today they're mounted on each side of the sign! Anyway those older lightalarms signs that glow the punch out grooves out the back are very rare! Especially the non combo battery backup types! I think I have seen these signs at a chinese restauraunt when I was very young, but I can't remember where it was, and these were the noncombo battery backup versions. I also remember seeing these same signs at a mall called Ocean One in Atlantic City, New Jersey. There was also a few combo versions of this signat the mall at Fairfield Commons in a shop called the Museum Company but I the signs were probably swapped out, and the store doesn't exist anymore. I also remember much later in seventh grade my mom took me to a hair salon in englewood that had the noncombo battery backup versions of these signs in dark areas of the store, but I could not get a very good look at them, and they looked like these signs were in bad shape so I could not see the brand name or anything!

    Cont. So anyway, back to the part about the hair salon in Englewood! So these signs were in bad shape, and I also remember them having silver brush aluminum faceplates so these signs were probably very old! There were also some of these lightalarms signs at Hara Arena, but they were all regular exit signs with no battery backup, also they were all mounted to the wall. These also had the silver brush aluminum faceplates so they were very old as well. Hara arena also had all different kinds of older exit signs like Mule lighting, Emergi lite etc. There was also two lightalarms exit signs that I saw in an antique shop in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania that had the brush aluminum faceplate, with the glass screen on the bottom, but the back of them I think was made of metal, because it did not look like the backplate punchout grooves were glowing! So this was probably a very old, and rare version of this sign! I also saw the back of one of these signs (battery backup at least) at a mall in pittsburgh in an area that no one was allowed to go to, a few years ago, but I think that they swapped this sign out for a modern one. I also remember a combo in a Speedway station near Downtown Dayton had a lightalarms combo with a brush aluminum face as well, but this was swapped out as well. There is also a lightalarms combo at papajohns pizza here in Lebanon, Ohio, but unfortunately this sign is not illuminated, and there is also a Lightalarms noncombo battery backup in an apartment building in downtown Lebanon, Ohio but this one is not illuminated either! And a couple more things here older Emergi Lite battery backup Signs usually have the test switch on the side on the battery component! While Lightalarms battery backup signs usually have the switch on the front of the unit on the battery component. Older Emergi Lite combos have small light heads, while older lightalarms have large light heads! So there you have it! I also remember the glowing lightalarms exit sign in that old school building also looked like it had writing inside of it like newspapers, but I think that this was just safety precausions by lightalarms when Installing the sign! But anyway what I wanted you to do for me was to look for these older Lightalarms exit signs, regular, battery backup, and combo versions and make videos about them, and where they are currently installed like a school, mall, restauraunt etc., and show me the details of these signs, because these signs are kind of rare, and I would like to know more about where they would be installed! The most common places as to where I would see these older white lightalarms signs installed would be in certain places in malls like older unused parts, or maybe old school buildings as well, but usually any facility that has these exit signs installed would be inconsistent as far as the main type of exit sign it has so the building may have a few other types of signs as well! Anyway you could also if you have the older white lightalarms exit sign do a video about it, or you could buy one off of ebay if you don't already have one and do a video about it. I also think that these older lightalarms signs were also rebranded by Dynaray, and sometimes I also see these older lightalarms signs even if they are battery backup or combos no brand name anywhere on the sign. Just the test switch on the front of the battery component, but I really hope you make a video about some of these older white Lightalarms exit signs that are very rare, and that I really like!
    Thank You!
    Gary!

    Exitsign250 I have a favor to ask of you regarding kind of a rare older certain exit sign by Lightalarms! This particular Exit Sign I first saw it at an old school building that was converted into theropy offices on one floor of that building in Dayton, Ohio! Anyway what I had noticed about this sign is that the ring shaped punch out grooves on the back of the sign were glowing, also there were punch out grooves on the side of the sign that were glowing, and these signs that I saw were also combos! I thought that was very neat, but I also found out that these signs are kind of rare in buildings, and are swapped out a lot, but I think they are manufactured by Lightalarms a division of Thomas and Betts! These particular signs also come in black which is more common, but I want the white version of this sign, because then I can see the glowing punch out grooves when this sign is illuminated! Most older boxy exit signs were made entirely out of metal, but not this lightalarms sign! I think it was made of plastic, but I think there were different versions of this particular sign regarding the faceplate, and the bottom vents. In the 80s, this particular sign had a silver brush aluminum faceplate, but in the early 90s, this faceplate was changed to a plastic faceplate which was used on former emergi lite signs in the 80s, and that is the difference between Emergi Lite signs, and Lightalarms signs! Lightalarms signs had plastic housing and backplate, and Emergi Lite signs usually had metal housing and backplate. I think these older lightalarms signs are part of the UX series which is based on the X10 series of Emergi Lite, only they're metal instead of plastic.

    Upgrade to led and put a SMPS much smaller and efficient then a wemo or similar wifi switch with astro timer, comes on say 15 min after sunset, turns off at specific time or whatever you want, done.

      I have used Wemos for years. I’ve installed them in my house, as well as for friends and family. I love them as you can set them up to do a lot of tasks. However for this install the owner did not want a smart timer and preferred a conventional hardwired one.

    Are the fixtures from super brite leds? But wow that lighting system is very different from mine. My lighting system which i assume is 21 years old has a transformer with a built in timer. And transformers today come with built in timers. Even professional ones.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 роки тому +1

      Yep! I got them straight from there. They are good quality and a good price. Yeah, some transformers do have a built in timer, others don’t. It’s all just preference. I prefer to have timers in a remote location for easy programming/controlling since the transformers themselves sometimes can be installed in inconvenient locations. Like in this install, the transformer was installed 100ft back in a small craw space, while the timer I put in was right at the basement entrance. Makes it easier in the long run.

    Didn't think there was a need for the disclaimer, people will still do what they want.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 роки тому +1

      The disclaimer is to cover myself, not necessarily to tell someone they cannot do what I’m doing. If someone were to watch my video, then proceed to do a similar install while using my video as a guide, then if something were to go wrong (electrocution, fire, injury, death) they may come to my video and take legal action saying I was the cause for their mistake. My disclaimer essentially says that I won’t be responsible if someone were to do that as well as stating that my video isn’t a tutorial. There have been people who have gotten into legal trouble for stuff like this before, and this is why I put this disclaimer on all of my electrical videos.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 роки тому +1

      Yep. They will work fine. All regulated means is that it requires a steady or fixed 24VDC. In other words the device would prefer a content 24VDC instead of it fluctuating. (For example, the power supply goes from 24VDC to 20VDC then back to 24VDC etc.)
