Girls get trained in how to seduce wealthy foreigners so they can help get resources for their families, but it almost always breeds unhealthy relationships. A lot of the time the women eventually crack and try to leave, at some point no amount of money is worth that loss of dignity

It's the Ikea furniture approach to relationship building. So very forced. Obviously both partners should want each other to be happy, but this is that old school PUA tactic of calculated results. Then if things don't go exactly as you pre-planned, you get mad, instead of understanding the real human you're dealing with.
Especially in Ed's case, he is incredibly goal oriented all the time. This obsession with producing specific results turns into manipulation too easily.

He speaks to his daughter in pretty much the same tone.
Things I would like to point out:
*If he was genuinely in love with her, he would show respect to her family. How he acted while he was inside their home showed major disrespect.
*He never researched about the culture, language, customaries. He had major White Saviour complex thinking he is above all this. And that she is the one that needs to adjust to him and his "culture"
*He's always worried about her being a golddiger, and that she might be in cahoots with her sister. But you know what, he never even had the compassion to spare a dollar to help repair their roof, take her to the doctor to have her ulcer treated. And Rose never asked money from him, nor asked him to spend money to buy materialistic things.
*He never bonded with her son. Yes It was wrong of Rose to teach her son to call him "daddy". But she saw a future with him. He didn't unfortunately.

Another thing to note is if rose was a golddigger, she would've taken him to the mall when he offered to buy her pajamas. Instead she just took him to cheap stores aroud the sidewalks.
In all this sad situation what I find deeply satisfiying is how smart and emotionally intelligent she is. I hope someone will notice her and give her an opportunity to use her intelligence to make something useful and also profitable for her because she deserves it so much and it would be a pity for everybody otherwise
Another point to make is that a room service champagne dinner is only truly romantic and meaningful if you actually pay for it yourself rather than getting your reality TV show to cover the costs. According to Rose, TLC footed the bill for all their dates.

I agree that in his case, yes. There wasn't any tension in it and he obviously planned for it to happen on this night. However I don't agree with what Anthony said in this video, I would like to be asked during my first kiss, it shows consideration. There will be tension, yes, but before the action actually takes place I don't see the problem with asking, it shows consideration as me or the other person may be reading the situation wrong. It's hard to really know whether the other person wants it or not.
@@plipplop1769 Absolutely, I couldn't agree more on that point. Just, the way he went about it felt tense, pushed or pressuring; rather than polite, after reading her. It was as if he didn't need her for this moment at all, just clearing a romantic checklist. But yes, a soft "May I Kiss You?", "Would You Mind, If I Kissed You?", "Is It Okay To Kiss You?", "Would It Be Alright..." and so on are gentle ways to carefully consider someone while keeping things romantic. Just the act alone, shows how much you respect them. I absolutely agree.
@@plipplop1769 You may like to be asked but most want it to be fluid. When it is fluid it is asked without words. You don't just pounce and kiss. You lean in slowly for a kiss. The leaning in is the question. If she pulls back she is saying no and you completely misread the moment.

I'm a straight male so this may seem weird to some but I want that first kiss to be romantic. I love that nervous feeling just before the kiss. Wondering does she like me this way? That's why for me I don't want to learn it through a verbal yes because I like that knowledge and feeling of her liking me mixed in with the actual kiss. But that is just my preference. I'd read that Ed's daughter and friends were against Ed going to the Philippines to see Rose - they thought that she was a possible scammer or prostitute. This is probably why Ed kept pressuring Rose to reveal her sex history and take an STD test.
The problem is that Ed has HORRIBLE people skills, has no empathy, is a manipulative passive-aggressive jerk and then paints himself as the victim afterwards.

He's lonely, and admitted to being desperate for long enough, that he's already imagine and pre-planned everything for years. He's not actually seeing her reactions for what they are, but rather desperately trying anything hoping to get a positive reaction, and self-centered /self-deluded enough, to assume that sex is a likelihood, based on their online chats. i.e. self aware but absolutely social-unaware. And not aware enough to realize that acting this way will make sure that anyone that could be interested will be put off.

This is my first time seeing this scene and the whole time it gave me chills. You can obviously tell by her body language she was very uncomfortable and he completely ignored it. I realize some people aren't good at reading emotions in others but hers are so obvious that there's literally no way you couldn't tell she wasn't comfortable. He brought in champagne, maybe to even try to get her drunk/tipsy? He stated from the very beginning he was hoping for sex even though they hadn't even had their first kiss yet. He was telling her what to do, even instructing her to bath and what to wear was very weird, especially since they had just met in person. He seemed so predatory. I feel really bad for her after seeing this scene. She probably only slept with him because of the champagne honestly, he even said the next morning the champagne probably helped, which is another huge red flag. Why can't older men date women their age. Society treats women like they are pretty little accessories. Most people cringe because Ed is just a simply full cringe creature, but what made me uncomfortable is how he acts totally clueless to Rose's facial expressions because he feels entitled to having her...he is a creep, he's pushing himself onto her and it is predatory to me, it didn't matter that he asked permission because Rose Marie wasn't in a place where she could say no, I've been in that situation and it's awful, you feel like you have to even if you don't want to! My friend put me in this situation too. He perused me for three years until I agreed to a first date. And that date was so much like this scene. He had a plan. He had his moves. He knew my boundaries. And he ignored them. I consented to a kiss. And he wouldn’t let me stop after that. He made me so uncomfortable, so scared. I was able to convince him not to have sex because I wasn’t ready. But he didn’t listen to any other protest. And when I didn’t react the way he expected, he got upset. It was a nightmare.

Big Ed is such a pitiful guy because he’s so desperate for affection and love. I adore Rose because Ed underestimated her intellect and worldly understanding. Everything you said is so on point! You're so right when you say he's treating her like a child, that's why it's so gross. He is so controlling. Maybe he does see all those signals she's giving him when she's feeling uncomfortable but if he acknowledged them it would interfere with his plan. For him it's a small price to pay if she's feeling uncomfortable, as long as he gets what he wants. When he signals her like a dog to 'come here' before the kiss, it's like he's treating her like an animal. That little nod he does after he say "on the lips"... uuuugh.

Big Ed is an obnoxious character. He is so insecure and obsessed with himself, that he tries to manipulate situations to his interest. Besides his creepy old man behavior, let's not forget he neglected to be truthful with Rose on many accounts. Like the fact he cheated on his ex-wife, but is obsessed with Rose's dating history. Apparently his own daughter doesn't want to talk to him (he mentioned it in an IG post). Fathers usually have special relationships with their daughters. If a daughter is disgusted with her father, that really says a lot.
I'd read that Ed's daughter and friends were against Ed going to the Philippines to see Rose - they thought that she was a possible scammer or prostitute. This is probably why Ed kept pressuring Rose to reveal her sex history and take an STD test.
The problem is that Ed has HORRIBLE people skills, has no empathy, is a manipulative passive-aggressive jerk and then paints himself as the victim afterwards.
