I like the looks of it, it's very unusual, I dig that. Makes me wish Gundam had bulky mobile suits more often, like they dipped into some in IBO with the Rodis and Gusion.
Just finished this big boy today. Loved the build experience and the unique way they utilized the frame. I'm torn now between going with a custom build, or to do the original kit justice with a fun paint job. Agree with the comments about the teeny ankle pivot. The flip down "wheels" do something to help with balance, though not much with weight distribution.
I recently got the Rebuild Edition 2 Kagutsuchi Otsu (sniper) that released this year! they fixed the ankle joint by making it a ball joint so no issues there, and they also made the large rifle handle not rotate anymore. The torso section is still pretty loose, so you still need to tighten it up quite a bit. I still had to use glue, specifically on the frame's right "hip" (the frame's shoulders since its flipped upside-down for those who don't know). It kept slipping out of the socket when trying to move the leg. Regardless, I think its pretty alright for a kit. Not much of a fan of the large sniper it came with since its 2 large pieces of plastic for its main body. I would recommend just purchasing the new Kagutsuchi Kou unless you really want the new, very large sniper and the armor pieces
If you like big guns, if you haven't seen them, a few of kotobukiya's armored core kits have massive guns. In particular, the two handheld guns you get from any Aaliyah kit are gigantic compared to most basic ballistic/kinetic weapons seen on Gundams and frame arms kits. There are some excellent (if you can find them for decent prices) a huge shotgun weapon unit 014 and a big back mounted sniper cannon weapon unit 015.
One thing to watch out with this kit are the rubber pipes. I'm not sure if it was a first run issue , but I found they had disintegrated after roughly a year after construction. Thankfully they are easy enough to replace or substitute.
I think its an honest scale since its spec is 21m (over-all height) and the scale is 1/100. RX-78-2 Gundam is 18m. Now if you compare it to a Master Grade RX-78-2 Gundam, this kit is almost higher.
I quite like the walking tank look of this FA, really digging the lower half of the body! This kind of mech usually doesn't meant for any dynamic posing so I think the articulation is enough. As for the design I prefer that kind of more futuristic and fantasy look, the recently released Rayfalx is just amazing looking with all that clear parts! But it cost 6800yen so I might have to think a little bit first...
Thanks for the review. Because of that, I'm planning on getting my 1st Frame Arms, which is the Reissued aka RE Baselard. I might slightly custom paint it once it arrives.
Digging the changes to the channel and the added variety. Have you been able to work on adding the EX-S armor on to the Frame Arms frame you reviewed a while back?
Where can you find a listing of the different ones? Been thinking of looking at getting one. I generally like the build of this one sans that giant fin on the top of the head...that kinda ruins the vibe for me. Originally thought it was like an artillery cannon or something, but yeah...
Nice review but still not sold on Frame Arms. I hope to see you do a review for the Renewal versions so that we'll see the stability of the frame for these kits.
Thanks for pointing out the difference with the RE versions, because Kotobukiya doesn't do much of a good job mentioning the difference between the 2 variants. They also released a bunch of them the same month they restocked on the older versions which only further added to the confusion.
Well...I think the big RE logo printed on the box tells everything...they also mentioned in their official website/blog. But I understand if you buy these kits online you might facing some issue about that.
If this is tricky to pose, you have to try posing the Frame Arms NSG-25 gamma Strauss. That pseudo-dinosaur is really impossible to pose. Obviously the non-Renewal edition. This type 48 is one of my favourite designs and I still didn't grab one. I will definitely buy this, the sniper and the extend parts (Extend arms 05). Thank you for the review, I was looking forward a complete review like yours!
Another excellent review Zak, I was actually thinking about getting this kit and the extend booster kit.One Question? It seems like the sniper version allows you to build this version and also includes the extra armor and sniper gun. In that sense would it be better to get the sniper version? Thanks
S.T Micurna The armors are never sold separately. The gimmick of Frame Arms is the versatile and pre-built frame that is used in many ways when building one of the FA kits. Hiwever they do sell the Frame itself seperately as the Architect Frame.
Only for one set, the name is "1/100 Kobold + Strauss Armor Set (ver. F.M.E.)", with it you can build either the Kobold and Strauss models (you will need 2 Frames) or the combined version (only one Frame needed).
However its not recommended if you want to build those 2 as is, F.M.E stands for For Modelers Edition. All molded in white and targeting the custom build people.
wanzer from front mission series and knight frame from code geass have this similar kind of setup although the one from front mission are more convincing than the other 2 since the wheels are in the middle between the toe and heel so weight distribution are more make sense
I like the looks of it, it's very unusual, I dig that. Makes me wish Gundam had bulky mobile suits more often, like they dipped into some in IBO with the Rodis and Gusion.
Arrowdodger don't forget the O but yeah we need some more bulky designs
Very cool kit! The first time I saw this online I honestly thought it was an Armored Core design. Hope to see more Frame Arms in future videos.

I was gonna complain about the weak azz ankles too, but seeing the high mobility addition kind of made it better for me.
Then again most Gundam feet look weak af. I don't mind it being more bulky for realism's sake.

ah now im not too sad ive lost mine :P replaced em with pieces of actual electrical cable that just happened to fit perfectly.
Excited for the FA Girl version of this, with that released concept illustration heh.
the surface for this kit is just screaming for custom panel scribing. I love it
I have the sniper renewal ver. of this and its way sturdier than the one in the review. I really reccomend you get atleast one renewal frame arm.
I think its an honest scale since its spec is 21m (over-all height) and the scale is 1/100. RX-78-2 Gundam is 18m. Now if you compare it to a Master Grade RX-78-2 Gundam, this kit is almost higher.
Looks like a very nice design. Very militaristic and awesome.

Buy the option set! Would be cool to see ur kit bashing idea
This is certified metal gear moment

Ivan Cazares not yet, gotta finish the MegaSize Zaku first. But that's on deck soon!
ZakuAurelius Awesome. Looking forward to both projects.
ZakuAurelius Will you review FA renewal Lapieal Zephyr and Magatsuki?
!
Definitely not inspired by Armored Core/Front Mission.
the head looks like zenith or cabreasant type of wansers i forget
yep, long range missile type wanzer
id say uisk
Where can you find a listing of the different ones? Been thinking of looking at getting one.

swrodgon you can try Amazon.com or lunar toy store
Sweet vid. I cannot wait to see more Frame Arm kits. My girlfriend is also curious to hear more commentary from you about them.
Nerd Goodness Me too, I want to get the renewal versions of Lapieal Zephyr and Magatsuki
This beast would look good with a dessert camo paint.
hi. it may be too late but.. where can i find this one? been looking for a while now :(

MrFlunkorg As far as I know, they only selll the renewal versions on Hobby Search
you ever play armored core
Nicholas Rodriguez I played a lot of AC3 and a little bit of a couple others back in the day.
Looks pretty sick! Great Vid!
oh man i'd love to buy two of those so i could get the expansion pack to use it on one of them
Im starting to dig on the Frame Arms kit i bought 3 and im now a fan im burnt out on Gundam i put together 25 mg lits in 3 months
Probably my fav one ... Anyone know if there's a site that shows the entire line of every model released?
Im still having issues regarding the arms in this kit, I cant make them fit the peg...
Just notice the ending with the swing. Cool1
next time you do a Frame Arms review, can you review the Magatsuki Houten please? It looks super cool
Hey Zach! Any chance we get a "fast build" of one of these kits? I'd love to see how it's all assembled.
sorry, not this one! But next time I do a FA kit I will!
the arm of my broken any advice

I have the FME armor set for the Strauss, so I can use a renewal architect frame in it! But actually I'll probably build the combined form.
frame arms are awesome.
This more in-line with Front Mission series style of mechs.
Another excellent review Zak, I was actually thinking about getting this kit and the extend booster kit.One Question? It seems like the sniper version allows you to build this version and also includes the extra armor and sniper gun. In that sense would it be better to get the sniper version? Thanks
Well. the sniper kit is more expensive. so if you want the sniper rifle then get that one.
uggghhh I love this guy. I kinda want to put his head on a different kit though.
this kit is look awesome !!!!
Theirs actually an expansion for it which is rather awesome IMO.

can you buy frame arms armor seperately? or are they always bundled in w/ the frame
S.T Micurna The armors are never sold separately. The gimmick of Frame Arms is the versatile and pre-built frame that is used in many ways when building one of the FA kits. Hiwever they do sell the Frame itself seperately as the Architect Frame.
LIGERZER0X1 ah i see, thanks!

I'm getting the Ryurai Kai, Is it a good kit?
It's All Good I would assume so!
ZakuAurelius Thanks, Just wondering if there were too many loose parts.
someone should take the Unicorn Gundam and make it look like this
frame arms is cool, but kotobukiya must improve their polycaps coz they suck..
unbournx I heard the renewal vetsions are better...
ZA can you make some reviews from Macross kits? The Valkyries look awesome and i want to start buying some but it's hard to find reviewers.
sorry, i'm not really interested in the designs
./cry
That horn is stupidly big, but other than that it looks pretty nice c:
it's pohatu
dang I just built this and I'm realizing I put the arms in wrong
Remind me one of the front mission wanzer
Kinda reminds me of Gundam The O after going through a polygonal shift.
The O isn't a gundam, btw.
I realized that after a bit, but was too lazy to edit that wee misnomer...
This is so legally-distinct Wanzer.
this looks like an enemy from Lost Odyssey
It’s stupid and I love it
wheels are for stability. thank of a drag car.
Yoooooo its an Front Mission Wanzer
it looks so bulky
A wanzer ?!
sad robot lol
Not entirely sure how wheels will help movement on a bipedal machine.
wanzer from front mission series and knight frame from code geass have this similar kind of setup although the one from front mission are more convincing than the other 2 since the wheels are in the middle between the toe and heel so weight distribution are more make sense
