Yeah, this game isn't that much new player friendly. If you do not have a "minimum" amount of knowledge about its mechanics, you will have a rough time playing it while at the early game stage. But one good hint was given in this video, read the details of everything. The devs of this game did an increadible job in explaning what each item do. It help a lot in understanding most of the game mechanics, like the healing or repairing systems.

I picked medium difficulty and scavanger progression on my first playthrough, here are my tips if anyone else fucked up like I did:
If you value your time, don't play with the campfire mod. The game is still challenging even with being able to save scum. It took me like 10 hours before I had decent enough gear not to die to 1-2 shots or 1-2 mutant bites.
Also if you want to have firefights with more than 1-2 stalkers or take out packs of mutants early on, get companion quests (tourist safari/escort missions) and don't turn in their quests.
These are the main things I would recommend if you don't want to move at a snails pace.

Best starting equipment choice is... respirator. only.
because radiations are a pain in the ass.
Starting the game without anything else is not that hard. especially if you start in Cordon where you will have immediate access to companions to kill things for you.
Gamma is about progression so keep in mind that you have the choice to use your starting points... or not. depending if you want an easier experience or not.
if you want to pick up a weapon anyway i would recommend the SKS.
Sidorovitch is more than willing to 'give' you a scope to go with it. some main quest will help you find decent armor and the sks really help in clearing those quests without taking too much risks.
The second reason to pick the sks is that killing mutants with a shotgun that jam every shot is making the game so much spicier, why would you want a working weapon when you can just be miserable. after suffering you enjoy progress more.
The sks will help you deal with enemy stalkers, that can really kill you fast if you got yourself surrounded, by simply killing them from a good distance. While even if your shotgun jam, you can still stay alive against mutant with some smart running.
Train your caution early in the game by using crappy weapons against mutants and make every shot count in case your gun jam. lessons learned will pay off in the long run and training you aiming ability never hurts.

I went against what you said and only took a 1911 so I could get more other stuff and I gotta say it's actually pretty damn good. Although it's all I've had for the 7 or 8 hours of in-game time because I can't find and GD basic tools lmfao. Don't think I'll ever get rid of it though.

    • @DanExert
      @DanExert  Рік тому +4

Bedroll I don’t bother with, as most if not all settlements will have a bed you can use (or you can just buy one from traders). Tourniquets are great, they first aid limbs to max if I remember rightly, but I generally just use bandages as they first aid the whole body so didn’t feel like tourniquets were super important as a starting item

Very informative video, exactly what I was looking for. I only had one comment. You kept using the word thorax to describe the "T" in the healing items. Thorax, while used in human anatomy referring to the chest region, is normally used to reference insect anatomy. The word you are looking for is torso which refers to the entire region from neck to groin. Thorax does not include the stomach when used for mammals. Again, great information.

playing in ironman is really great but the zone have bugs that can really ruin your run. like changing area and finding yourself half clawed to death before you can do anything or spawning in the area right next to a squad of enemy stalkers. or some rare texture bug will kill you.
as a result i don't recommend ironman with only 1 life.
definitely try with 5 lifes and 1 more every 24 hours. That will give you some margin of error in this merciless game.
