Another thing about Midsommar is the concept of empathy. One major reason that the main character struggles so much with her emotions and her mental health is because she gets zero support or empathy from anyone around her, especially her boyfriend. In Sweden, the locals have empathy to the extreme to the point where they scream and cry with her and mirror her intense emotions. She is no longer isolated with her intense feelings and therefore feels supported. Anyone who has struggled with their mental health can definitely identify with this, or at least I did. I have BPD and the first time I did group therapy in my DBT group, I finally didn't feel so isolated in my struggles.

Best Scene It yet! We love you, Fran Neuhaus! Keep her reccs comin', I think she has great taste! I *love* The Defiant Ones, it came on ramdomly at 5am and I watched it all...a great way to watch a film, I was pretty young and wondered why no one was talking about it (60 years too late, I guess). Also, I falsely remember it was called "The Chain Gang" though maybe the TV guide named it as such for more audience views? Either way, glad you watched it and gave it a chance! :)

Like everyone else I've been paying pretty close attention to the coronavirus situation in the past few weeks. Apart from washing our hands and staying home if we feel ill, however, there's not much we can do. So, I'm using it as an excuse to watch some pandemic/disease outbreak thrillers, like The Andromeda Strain, The Crazies, Stephen King's The Stand, Outbreak, and Contagion.
Seen It: Safe (1995)? Julianne Moore is great in this psychological drama directed by Todd Haynes.

Has Matt ever shown the notes he writes while watching the movie? I've always wondered how he's able to write down the events of the movie as well as jokes and observations in real time and still be fully taking in the movie. It seems like at the end of the movie he has basically a full script ready to go. As someone who also reviews movies and tries to keep notes while I watch, I truly marvel at Matt and Craig's ability to juggle all these things while they're watching.

    SEEN IT QUESTION/REQUEST
I'm not sure how often you're asked if you've seen any foreign/Asian films as I don't see it often in your segments, but I'm very interested to know if either of you have seen either The Man from Nowhere or A Bittersweet Life. These are usually two of my "go-to" films when I'm trying to ease someone int Korean cinema as they're similar to American films in their structure. The Man from Nowhere being nearly beat-for-beat Denzel Washington's Man on Fire and A Bittersweet Life sharing a somewhat similar story and tone with George Clooney's The American.

Spoiler for Uncut Gems! A second before the end of Uncut Gems I thought "there's no way this is going to end on such a high note, the dick enforcer guy is gonna shoot him" and sure enough a second later Sandler gets killed. Then his brother in law is acting like an idiot and it's obvious he's gonna get killed too, then of course he gets it. I would have been shocked if it happened just a second sooner but I had jumped the gun literally a moment early and the impact was diminished somewhat.
