Going by the scene backdrop behind newsreader Peter Woods at the start, this forecast was sometime between September 1979 and August 1981. In September 1981 they changed the backdrop to one of thick horizontal lines, and they kept that look until September 1985.
Yes I was 10 in 1980 and remember it being a horrible cool, wet summer. I only have very vague memories of 1976 but I think of the summers from 1977 to 1982 were either poor or mediocre at best before the fantastic summer of 1983.
@@geoffclarke3796 The summers from 1977 to 1982 were indeed poor or very mediocre. After 1983 the summer of 1984 was quite good as well as the summer of 1989.
Some people would love too see these older style weather forecasts be brought back and the computerised graphics ditched - after the latter has been in use no less than 36 years
I was always told weather was better in the past?!!😂😂😂
They say around 1980, but this was a notoriously cool and wet summer, so it makes me wonder whether this was in 1983, a hot summer.

Could be early August 1981, which gave violent thunderstorms which caused daytime darkness over much of southern England.

Quaint. 😊
