Thank you, Todderbert, for your tutorial video in reference to the Prunus J-288 AM/FM Stereo Radio w/BT AUX-IN & MP3! Great stereo sound with plenty of volume! Adequate reception and a very nice Bluetooth included as well! Very nicely designed with a stylish display! Compatible with my cell phone as well. I really like the Prunus J-288 and I would definitely invest in this radio at a price point under $20.00!

I just received my Prunus J-288. Just opened the box, so will have to wait to operate, but I just wanted to let folks know that the one I ordered from Amazon didn't come with a piece of paper for instructions, but a nice little booklet, so that's an improvement right there.

Like many Chinese-made products, this model is made under several names, the biggest being Retekess TR602. Was only $19 on eBay which is an outstanding price. I love the fact you don't need AA or AAA batteries. The lithium battery lasts a long time and is easily and reasonably available on eBay. Radio is very tippy and should have had some footing to stand the unit. Sounds good for such a small radio. My radio is a little finicky as sometimes the power button doesn't work until you remove the battery and put it back in. As if it has to reset for some reason. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy.

I bought it for 1100rs from AliExpress in 2019 December. FM Stereo Rocks on this. I use Bluetooth transmitter to transmit the headphone out to big Bluetooth speakers . AM is not good , not picking any stations . Buttons get multi click after 3 months of use. Sometimes clicking next FM station pause the playback. For 1100Rs it's amazing 👍🏻 .

Good review as always. I bought the radio but the Retekess TR 602 which seems the work the same as this one. I wanted a stereo radio to play my mp3 files which this one does very well with a nice tone too. I agree it should be a little thicker or maybe have a kick out stand to stop it tipping over. It's also a fingerprint magnet but all in all its a decent radio for the price. I also like the timer as I set it to switch off at bedtime

I have another similar Prunus and my conclusions over all are that they are great little radios. The real problem, just a few months in, is that the MODE button doesn't work any more making it impossible to change to 'radio mode' while the USB stick still operates as the default mode. This of course makes it useless as a radio, though Prunus after sales service have been great and are sending me a new one, as it is a known fault. I think it just needs a redesign to make radio the default mode and you wouldn't have to use the Mode button quite so much. But the sound quality for a tiny radio is awesome and I love having the rechargeable lith ion batteries.

I just purchased the Leting version of this unit from Amazon for less than $13, and they've added a flashlight. It also has a replaceable 2000ah rechargeable battery and the newest usb charging port.

Yes, the Grey model was 50% off for $12.49 on a limited time offer with 16 minutes left and only one in stock, so I didn't read reviews until after I ordered it and got it on it's way. There is only the black full priced option now.
After seeing your review I picked up on several things that I prefer on this model. It's a matte finish not shiny and it features a tuning knob for the radio with the USB Type C port, Bluetooth 5 and the bigger battery capacity, and because of the added flashlight and recessed antenna it does appear to be a little thicker. I think the heavier battery at the bottom of the unit will help keep it upright when it's sitting on a flat surface.

I just ordered the J-288, based largely on your comprehensive review. I still have some questions, which I don't think the enclosed "manual" will answer. It concerns using USB or SD cards. How does the 288 "decide" which tracks to play? Should we fill a USB or SD with a lot of songs we want, in the order we want them just for this machine? I notice it says, concerning the Repeat function, you can pick one, folder, or all. How does the machine repeat a "folder"? I would have thought that if we put them in folders, it would confuse the machine.
In other words, how do we avoid chaos when trying to play music using the USB or SD slots? How do YOU do it, using 16G cards? Any advice will be appreciated, as my machine is supposed to arrive on Friday, and from pausing the instructional manual shots you showed us, it appears the manual doesn't really explain this. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give on this.

Thank you very much for this demonstration! Regarding the use of USB, does the song restart exactly where it left off, after turning off the device? I am thinking of listening to audiobooks in 1 single file.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  2 роки тому +1

Yes, the device remembers where you left off on the MP3 file when using the Micro SD Card Slot. The Fast Forward/Rewind Feature is slow, and only good for short files.

I have operated my J-288. The stations that come in well, come in beautifully. The sound on this thing is great. I loaded some stuff on a micro SD card and did the same on one of those SD cards, one-piece jobs (it's just a whole SD card) and put the larger card in the card-reader USB that I have. Some of the stuff, even though I went through the "properties" and put the tracks in order, from 1-63, are still out of order, on both cards, and I don't know what I did wrong there, but they at least sound good.
My big problem now is that I have been trying to find a back-up cord like the one they sent me for charger/AUX on Amazon, and can't find that exact one. I've typed in so many different terms, but can't find one.
Has anyone here found a back-up cord for the J-288 and can tell me where to get one, or if on Amazon, what it was called when they found it?

It's a shame they got so many things right, then failed the design concept with their battery selection. No doubt, that little battery would struggle in powering two speakers - ten hours battery life is totally insufficient. Your suggestion of increased case thickness to accommodate an 18650 while improving physical stability (and life of a charge) is on-point. Thanks for the thorough review.

On mine the Mode button failed after just four months. But Prunus were very helpful and will replace the radio completely when I showed them the fault in a little video clip. But buttons should be made to last, and I think far too many devices today use what is 'built to fail' technology and these press buttons are not reliable.

More of these units should have recording capabilities. The V115 can’t be the only unit that records. These units are not usable unless they have a recorder. Most people aren’t going to buy it unless all aspects of this machine are understood. The SD card otherwise would be a useless function. To me the SD is a replacement for a cassette tape machine. In this case, only a player, not a recorder. I would really like to use something that would capture shortwave radio stations. I used to record shortwave transmissions as a form of verification, just like a QSL. I have at least a dozen cassette tapes with shortwave radio stations on them.
