Uncertainty is not new for the marijuana industry, which saw an increase in medical dispensary raids in the early years of the Obama administration despite statements from the president and his attorney general Eric Holder assuring voters that they would respect state law. Obama's Department of Justice mellowed out a bit in his second term and more or less abided by the Cole memo, which directs law enforcement to direct enforcement efforts towards operations selling to minors, growing on public land, or selling over state lines.
On the campaign trail, Trump's statements on the issue sounded reassuring to many advocates of legalization.
"I think medical should happen, right? Don't we agree?" Trump asked an audience at a rally in Nevada, a state whose voters would choose to legalize the drug for recreational use later that year. "And then I really believe you should leave it up to the states. It should be a state situation."
But Trump's appointment of enthusiastic drug warrior Jeff Sessions as Attorney General concerned many who want to see cannabis legalized. While Sessions has made it abundantly clear in recent public statements that he's no fan of marijuana legalization, he hasn't called for an all-out crackdown in the 28 states that have legalized pot in one form or another.
"States, I get, can pass whatever laws they choose," he told an audience at the National Association of Attorneys General earlier this year. "But I'm not sure we're going to be a better, healthier nation if we have marijuana being sold at every corner grocery store."
Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer has made similarly ambiguous statements, seeming to want to draw a hard distinction between medical and recreational cannabis.
The American public, on the other hand, appears fairly unified on this issue. Medical marijuana enjoys broad public support, and a recent Quinnipiac poll shows 71 percent of Americans believe the federal government should refrain from interfering in states that legalized marijuana for medicinal or recreational use.
In the video above, we asked several entrepreneurs working in the marijuana industry to react to statements from Trump and his administration officials and to give their forecasts for the future of legal pot under the new administration. Watch to find out what they said.

If Trump were to deschedule Marijuana, I'm pretty sure his approval points would jump by 10-15%, I'm serious.
schwarg he will save that move for re election.
schwarg No doubt.
Yeah probly.
Mike West I can definitely see that not join either watch u an I will come back to this thread when he says it an they say holy sht u were rt hah8p
Try that again son.

Harambe how's the weed in heaven?
Only o e problem...some of us still have to find a non-arrested holder
I'm calling the police.
Wish I could stupid jobs with random drug test
vaspike15 damn
So many people put in prison just for having some pot . There lives ruined forever . The failed war on drugs has caused more death , sorrow and imprisonment than any law ever written . The laws are beyond cruel . 20 years mandatory for having a small amount in some states but your out in 5 to 7 for murder even if you laugh at the victims family in court .
Wisdom King why would your life be ruined forever cause u went to jail for weed stupid?
Quit calling it pot. This isn't 1980 anymore
Wisdom King *their
*you're
Go read a book
Random Guy nobody gives a shit! 🖕🏼:)
Wisdom King when it comes to weed, I'll agree. But heroine, cocaine, and meth are exactly where they need to be
For all you pessimists,,, remember alcohol prohibition. It didn't work. The people won out. Remember,,,, We The People??????
Ernest Zamora The people are drugged up on Florida now
Yes! It's the only Admendment ever overturned in US history!!
Americans are coming last because of the democrats pushing there retarded agenda
If its we the people then why is weed illegal 🤷♂️
Pot is not a drug
@OldGrama Weed is not a gateway drug I've been smoking it since I was 15 and I'm 31 now and not once have I used any other type of drugs such as cocaine heroin meath that gate way drug excuse is bullshit that's just to scare people
HR 1227 End Marijuana Prohibition Act, contact your senators.
I could tolerate him if legalized weed.
notmy realnamr i think most people would also change their minds about him a little if he did, which might be enough to make him want to legalize. start a petition
He is saving that Card for when he really needs to distract from some scumbag shit.
Politicians don't care if you tolerate them. All they care about is if you would vote for him, if he legalized.
kkknotcool Yep, he could care less about your opinion now, he's in office
Nutt Beggets
But reelection is in 3 years. The problem is notmy realnamr wouldn't vote for him even if he did legalize pot so there is no reason for Trump to do it.
Neoconservatives and neoliberals tend to forget about the 10th Amendment. Excellent reporting on your part Reason.
But only when it's convenient for them. They love to haul the 10th Amendment out of the closet when it suits their purposes.
DC rox The fk it was . The Constitution Will Never fall.
Fuck all the marijuana haters. They really need to do some research. I have seen it help kids fighting with epelipsy . It just pisses me off that they could say it has no medical benefits. Get with the program people. This is just the government trying to control and regulate everything. Think about law enforcement they don't like it cause they are going to be losing alot of money. They will no longer be able to put good hard working citizens in jail for something so stupid. Also think about the big pharma , they will loss millions of dollars because marijuana can treat a number of ilnesses. Fuck the pills . Chemicals Kill And Cannabis HEALS. I'm well aware that Cannabis has chemicals that the plant naturally produces but they are not man made chemicals. That is why we grow organically . Stupid Fucks.......
Sir. SmokAlot C you are the biggest dumb ass I've every seen. YOU ARE A WORTHLESS DRUG ATTIC!!!!!
It is a big problem if everyone is driving around high all the time. It will also make it more available to younger kids and it will make them think it is ok because it is legal.
Patrick Simon do your homework you idiot and in regards to kids I will teach my kid that it is not a drug you know what it's pointless talking to ignorant people like yourself.
LEGALIZE CANNABIS NOW!!!
everything*
I see why there legalizing it to dumb people up to the stuff there doing on the inside
YES!!!!
Sessions "I doubt that's true." Are you kidding me? I'm not sure if sessions knows what's the internet is but the guy needs to educate himself and get rid of the propaganda filled mindset that was instilled by the government when he was younger. He needs to leave! He is stuck in the in the past and people are hurting because of it.
Sessions isn’t sure, we’d be a healthier and a better off nation with marijuana stores everywhere but he doesn’t say a thing about all the liquor stores on every corner and the people that beat their wives and children under it’s influence or drive, hit, and/or kill innocent and potentially unaware bystanders but marijuana is the devil. His mama must’ve said so. Isn’t it also funny, how in most other aspects, the people we saw on TV, wrestlers, news anchors, etc., as youngsters are now retired or have moved on but we still see the same decrepit old men still running for office. Lol.
He's a paid shill for big pharma, the PIC and the contractors who make all the toys the DEA plays with. Fighting cannabis is a multi-billion-dollar industry.
how the hell they could sell heroin in a pill form. perks, vico, etc. marijane help alot of people to get off pills. it's all about the money
herion is a perk or a vico LOL
13albonito BIG PHARM.
I'm a disabled vet who found help and relief thru using mj. Unfortunately, the city I live in does not support its use for med purposes and neither does the VA. PTSD, depression and severe chronic pain wears on a person. I've since stopped using weed because of the negative pressures put on me by my city, family, the va etc. Weed will never be truly legal like alchohol is or even cigs. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to understanding the many benefits of weed as an alternative to popping pain pills and anti depressants. So I've succumb to the mindset that we cannot win this battle. The powers that be will always get their way.
We are the "United States of America" so if its legal in one state it should be legal in all. Recreational and medical should be legal throughout America.
If it was legalized in every state it would bring in so much in tax dollars and so many people that get charged for a little bit of pot and go to jail it would free up room in jail's and prisons for actual criminals. I'm a cronic back pain sufferer for 8 years that's on painkillers for those 8 years I had to give up smoking pot to be able to be on pain meds. I would rather smoke if it were legal than pop a pill which I'm severely addicted too.
Kyle Hicks would people who were arrested be released ? I'm pretty sure they likely wouldn't unless they were pardoned of some sort but if they change the law I believe they still be in prison.
Yeah but people would be burn outs and lazy with no work ethic just like people who smoke it now
no tax on corn so why tax cannabis
The Federal Government is so hypocritical about Marijuana in relation to Alcohol which is proven to be so bad! I say legalize marijuana which is helping a lot of people and tighten laws on Alcohol which is hurting people would make more sense!
It's organic, God created it. "In God we trust?"
Florida wants to legalise recreational marijuana to be sold at all liquor stores tax it sell it make as assessable as buying beer🍺🌱🔬🔋⚗🚬👌🏼🍭🍬🍾
1:04 Jeff Sessions is "doobyous" about marijuana 😉👌
if anything is a "gateway drug" its alcohol it clouds judgement lowers inhibitions ive known more people who got hooked on meth, cocaine and heroin because they tried it when they were under the influence of alcohol, not to mention anyone can die from a night of drinking
a good smoke has helped me by controlling my siezures and it helps open up my lungs for my copd. I am 61 and been sick for several years and when i could not afford my meds a friend talked me into trying it and after a couple days I started noticing several changes to the good such as sleeping all night and improved appetite and my seizures went from 5 to 6 a day to 1 or 2 a week. My lugs get opened up better to help me breath. Also Jeff Sessions must not know about the mother goose program where doctors used a small roller to administer cannabis oil on the feet of babies that had violent seizures to control them.
really? i thought marijuana actually gives you siezures, and anxiety too. Also a side effect of panic attacks.
sofaking no it was even recomende by my doctor. Also there is a program called I think "mother goose" and they use cdo oil from pot to control violent seizures on babies
bro i smoke weed myself, im just telling you the side effects.
thatsobtoki I dont have any side effects
@@sofacus9703 you don't get seizures my guy lmao😂😂😂 but if you take a break from it you may experience depression and anxiety
i hope it gets legalized recreationally every where its ridiculous that i cant get a good job unless i quit smoking pot but the guy i work with can slam 3-4 beers on his lunch every day
"I've always been a believer in federalism and States rights" like the guy who said that is honestly just not smart. Federalism and states rights are literally polar opposites.
It is a treatment for prior opiate use. It helps with not craving the opiate and the effects on your body from whatever opiate you took.
Anyone else realize that the only people bashing weed is people who dont smoke....
He doubts cannabis benefits are true because his buddys sell the pills.
Old out of touch folks like Sessions need to GO!!!
He needs a good session lol in uk thats getting fd up
Great video, love the transitions into the government men talking and the vo before they talk
3:53 "The truth is marching forward" im so high rn and this is everything.
just legal it.
God damn I love weed
Legalize our God given right to decide for ourselves what we put in our bodies!
The answer is this : The alcohol and paper industry will be put out of business if it becomes legal at the federal level.
Special interests are paying government to keep it illegal. Plain and simple.
so I still can't legally grow or buy weed in Texas still???
Hank Hill Come to CALI..
***** or Colorado
Hank Hill in Harris county it basically is legal the law is if your caught with anything less that 4 ounces all that will happen is your weed will be confiscated and you'll have to take a 3 hour drug class that's literally the only punishment you'll get
Hank Hill No they only want Monsanto and Bayer to grow and go the shit out of it
@@kuanhulio3700 I can first hand tell you that is wrong. I have been personally popped twice once with a gram. Both times it was the same charge pom< 2oz, both would had carried the same 180 days in jail 1000 dollar fine had I not took probation
Mr. Sessions is taking out the side of his neck!!!!!
Great post!
Thankyou
Simple. Here u go sessions approve a study on the efficacy of marijuana in a medical setting. How can you say marijuana isn't helpful for opioid addiction. When he hasn't dealt with the issue personally. Take it off schedule 1 and stop playing dumb. It's insulting to the American population.
Free the weed
I THINK I WILL DRINK ME A SIX PACK AND THINK THIS OVER
2:43 but I'm pretty sure opioid deaths have gone down 6% since legalization in some states so his whole "give me a break" is actually like no, no break
2:33 marijuana is a cure for opiate abuse. I know personally for a fact that this is true i was an opiate addict for 15 years and the only way i was able to finally quit was with marijuana. All the prescription opiate replacements made things worse for me. marijuana may be a gateway but gateways work both ways to come in and to come out.
The Infinite Center It's not a gateway,It's the people that's sell them that are gateways.Drug dealers will try to get them to try other drug.
The Infinite Center Don't listen to that Racist old Dinosaur he knows not what the Fuck he is Talking about!
Jeff is a slave to major pharmaceutical corporations who want to bank off of selling people bs meds just like how they tried it with you.
The Infinite Center And I smoke daily for 14 years straight. It's not a gateway drug! All lies! I have never used any hard drug in my life.
If Trump legalized pot, I would vote for him. and I hate him lol
Carlos Betancourt probably won't do it
hahahahahaahahah that was so funny
No reason to hate trump.
This is one of the most reasonable videos on youtube I've ever seen. Well done ReasonTV.
Great info!
leave to states
hes and old goat.there making money, courts, law informant, probation.there not likeing the idea of losing that income....
Not a joke , though I was wondering if you could tell me what the background music is at @4:20? I have a song I made that is quite similar and wanted to check it out in comparison.
Some of the buds in this video are the best i've ever seen. Come on Australia!!!! Catch up!!!
The people Trump appointed in all areas, have opposite views of his. Did he really appoint these people? It's baffling. State law trumps federal law.
Pun intended?
Point out why this is a bad thing, or shouldnt have happened?
you must be smoking some yourself here, Federal law trumps state law. Why do you think the feds raid marijuana grows in states that made it "legal"? because they can. State laws only govern the citizens within a particular state, but federal laws apply to all U.S. citizens. When state and federal laws clash, think of the federal law as the trump card.
States created the federal government. States make marijuana legal, and by law, the feds should stay out of it, but tyranny reigns, and that's the problem. States are nullifying unconstitutional federal laws, because they can. States have the power to resist any federal laws.
Courts at the state and federal level, including the U.S. Supreme Court, repeatedly have rejected the theory of nullification.[2] The courts have decided that under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, federal law is superior to state law, and that under Article III of the Constitution, the federal judiciary has the final power to interpret the Constitution. Therefore, the power to make final decisions about the constitutionality of federal laws lies with the federal courts, not the states, and the states do not have the power to nullify federal laws. - Wiki
Legalize all drugs
SamStam12 Yeah lets just legalize murder while were at it
Agreed, SamStam12 is a bit of an asshole is he not.
William Babin Consuming drugs and murder aren't in the same realm.
Herpeslip Herpeslip I know but they are both dangerous af
Legalizing all drugs, or total decriminalization of drugs would be the best thing that could happen. It would completely destroy the illegal market, and the Mexican cartels. It would also destroy the drug war and finally put an end to it; Which is precisely why they would never do it. The government and law enforcement, the criminal justice system, prison industrial complex, cities and counties, etc. want to victimize people so they can continue to generate revenue, and guarantee their job security. It is criminal and corrupt, for a government to remove human rights; Or remove them and give some of them back as long as they can tax, license, and regulate, whatever it is they make money from. It is no different when corporations rip us off, or when they bribe politicians to make a natural plant/product illegal because it benefits them financially. This is not liberty. It is exactly what the Founding Fathers went to war against, when they founded America: Taxation without representation.
My sister-in-law has M.S. and is very bad off but the weed helps her (or whatever you want to call it) it helps her eat, it help her with the pain and let's her relax a little bit.
2:20 that shoulder twitch :'D
A ReasonTV video that's not shilling for leftists by calling Trump a fascist? What Timeline am I in?
Carlos A Yes I do support common sense border regulations.
Santiago Broncano Lmao, where to put words in people's mouths. According to you, I unequivocally support Trump just for pointing out Reason's obvious pandering. What a leap of logic lol.
And keep the "muh safe space" rhetoric to yourself pal. I don't need it to call out ideologues.
randomflashbacks "Butthurt" "True Libertarian" Oh yeah these guys are "true" libertarians, just Gary Johnson and Bill Weld were true libertarians amirite? Lmao.
The Reality timeline...libertarians tend to suffer from it, very frustrating 0_0
That is what The Young Turks are for. They suck big league!
I thought this was Adam 22 @nojumer as himself at the thumbnail lol 😂😭

Thought it was Adam22 on the thumbnail lmaoo
About time
The dude in the picture of this video looks like Joe Rogan and Barack Obama had a kid lmao.
I'm in OH and I noticed that we're one of the states with legal weed in some form. I was unaware of that fact! Could someone please elaborate? I've been fighting chronic pain and Fibromyalgia for many years now and I would love to have an alternative to the prescriptions I take on a daily basis. Thank you!
Mr Sessions should do his homework.......................
Bruh i have a despensry like in sight of my school right up the block🤣🌲🔥
You missed Missouri being legal for medical as well
I AM DUBIOUS ABOUT MARIJUANA LOL @1:7
He should change the dot rules on not smoking weed they should let truck drivers smoke weed on they're own time many truck drivers deserve this
Pot revenue could most certainly pay for a wall if that’s what our government feels we need it👍🙏🏻
Many people here don't understand the concept of addiction. Marijuana itself isn't addictive when you smoke it. But if a person makes smoking (in general) a routine like I did, their body will naturally create a dependence for it. Eventually, your body relies on a higher dosage to get that same first high effect called building up a tolerance. As fellow smokers, you should all know that you never just smoke one time. Of course I always say "I can quit whenever I want", but after turning it into routine it's a lot harder to quit. And yes, marijuana withdrawal does exist (although not as harsh as opioids but still); which makes it even more difficult. I mean, how can you tell me otherwise? I am the one addicted to it. But to tell other viewers smoking isn't addictive? What a crock of shit man. We both know we want another hit right now.
Truth Will Out without a Doubt
When i Looked at the map it was encouraging that the ENTIRE West Coast had legalized weed. Even fucking Alaska regards legalization as a good move.
If ALASKA, one of the more right leaning states, thinks it's a good move then i think we can move on to fully legalize nation wide.
when he said cloudy he meant that people will continue to burn herb lol
How can I start marijuana business in michigan?
1:05 this foo said he's doobie-ous haha
I’m a veteran who needs but is afraid of having my opioid meds taken away can someone help me
Its like we are all IPhone 7s and our politicians are Nokia brick phones
I am "dubious" about marijuana... great wording Jeff
Hell ya it’s good for pain. I can’t feel shit when baked 😂
the problem with leaving the pot laws to the states is this: Mi is legal for rec. pot and Med. But the state lets the old people( these are the people that have been taught that pot is an evil drug, sent by the devil himself, for the sole purpose of destroying the lives of the good people in this community!!! their whole lives) in the different counties make up their own laws on whether marijuana based businesses are allowed or not. If pot is legal then why can't I sell it at my store? In this county??? No new pot based businesses in Sanilac County, Mi. Plus the police use entrapment tactics to set up dispensaries in sting operations. In an effort to close existing pot based businesses. GROWERS AND SELLERS BEWARE!!! The very people we elect and PAY to represent us in the U S Gov. seem to have their own agenda that does not compliment the views or needs of their respective constituents.
yep I know what you mean. it saved my life trust me . I won't get into details but if u only knew
Nice One
Bruh they don’t gotta sell it in stores just legalise it to the people n let them grow it themselves
I thought the screenshot was Adam22 lol
Worst war ever, 30 plus years and they still haven't won. Might as well play smash the bugs at chuckie cheese paralized.
Send me that BIG BOX On the thumbnail. 😎
Please legalize medical and recreational marijuana in Tennessee ASAP
I just realized the wall is getting built 😮😯😮
1:06 haha, he said doobie
I used to do all kinds of opiates every day - Now I take one pill a day and smoke Cannabis.
Cannabis has allowed me to stop a psychological AND physical addiction.
Marijuana must be really a very good and valuable thing, since it causes so much controversy despite the fact that no one really succeed in proving it to be bad; and while some have endeavoured to demonize it, they in the process of their research journey found only the evidence to the contrary.
I thought that was adam 22 in the thumbnail
Jeff sessions is just living in another time.
DUDE WEED LMAO
I haven’t been able to stop smoking weed since i started when i was 16 so i do agree it’s actually very addictive.
go go go Marijuana....
Medical Marijuana is fantastic.
Daymond chief Jones
i moved to uruguay with family for 3 years while it was legal... previous to that i was a strung out junkie basicly... marry jane saved n changed my life from growing to smokeing to extraction..
What is the surgeon generals opinion about medical marijuana? Seems like he would be more qualified to discuss medical things instead of a lawyer.
Not just all the stores everything
you guys cant stop it
I've struggled with opiate abuse in someway for 10 years now. If marijuana was legal or approved medically I would definitely try it instead.
so many puns 1:03 DUBIOUS 1:19 CLOUDY
I was on antidepressants last year and slept most of the time. Just felt more depressed. I started smoking marijuana and have seen improvement in not only my behavior but I feel like going out now. I feel like I want to get out of this state of my depression and before I was falling deeper. It was a scary moment in my life. I dont recommend anyone to getting any type of this pharmaceutical drug. Its terrible and Dr's just prescribe and prescribe. They don't care about US they care about getting rich off us just like the pharmaceutical industry. We need to get out and vote if we really want change. Congress is bought and don't work for our interest. Lets hold them to the fire because they are fucking us over.
This is just my opinion but I don't think any sitting president will ever declassify marijuana from the schedule one classification. It is truly up to all of the states. Once every state has legalized it for recreational use , the federal government will have no choice but to declassify it. Politicians on both sides's are the same in the fact that neither one would ever want to take responsibility for the declassification.
