    I own a 2004 Chrysler Grand Voyager Limited with the 2.5l-Diesel and a 5-Speed Manual. It now has about 210k miles and still runs great. Of course it had some issues just like a bit of rust, Power Liftgate malfunction, driver's heated seat doesn't work anymore, frozen diesel filter, but really nothing expensive or serious. It offers plenty of room and comfort, and with the Diesel I have an average consumption of 31mpg which I think is great for a vehicle of that size. I don't care what many people say, I love that car.

    I am renting the new Pacifica while buying the 2006 T/C later today! My old car was totaled last week when a kid made a left turn andn hit me.
    Anyway, the Pacifica is miserable to me. The rear mirror is tiny. The engine shuts off at lights and the a\c suffers. I live in AZ. This is non negotiable.
    So the 2006 is in mint condition. It has 140k miles, one owner, and costs $2900. I am so glad to not have a payment anymore.

    I like both. And I just realized after all these years owning a T&C that it only had back seat ash trays. Rewind the clock to the 80s and there was a ash tray for every seat. I now own a 2017 grand caravan and theres not a single one in it. I consider that a sign of the changing times. lol

    Great video! I love that someone appreciates the mid-2000's T&C like I do (known as a Grand Voyager here in the UK). Unfortunately they stopped selling this here after the next model up, but would love to see the Pacifica released here.. I also LOVE how you Americans seem so get well over 200k miles on the clock with little problems, yet UK cars with over 100k you know are headed to the scrap yard pretty soon..😂

    You know I kinda like the look of the 06, I mean not completely but I can respect it, it looks like a minivan which isn’t a bad thing imo. Of course it didn’t age well like most things from the late 90s early 2000s.

    I currently own an 06 Touring and I love it. I paid way more than it was probably worth ($7000) but it had less than 85,000 miles on it when I bought it and it was in mint condition. The stow n go makes it amazingly flexible. I've hauled 1,600 lbs of product in the back without having to remove my son's child seat. I've filled it to the gills with people and hauled large pieces of furniture home that in the past I would have needed a u-haul to transport. The ride is almost Cadillac-like and it's such an easy and comfortable to drive car for the daily commute. I will eventually upgrade to a Pacifica but I will miss the ride of my 06 along with the 20 cubic feet of passenger/cargo space that you lose by going with a newer van. My only two real complaints about my van are the fuel economy and power. I struggle to get 20 mpg highway. 18 mpg is more typical and in the city I'm averaging 13 with a light foot. I'm not one of those people who needs a lot of power but these vans power levels are barely adequate even with the optional 3.8L that I have. In most situations it's adequate but uphill highway on-ramps and ones with a tight radius turn and limited merge space are it's worst enemies. Getting up to even a low 55 mph highway limit can be sketchy at times.

      My parents' older Chrysler minivan (1992 model year) had 140hp. Try merging onto a freeway with 7 passengers in that lol. There was always an element of danger as it took so long to get up to speed. When my parents bought a new 200hp SUV in 2000 I was thinking "holy shit this thing fully loaded can STILL get up to highway speed safely"

    Being able to do repairs on your own is a big key with these, in my experience. I bought a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan EXT about three years ago. It ran fine most of the time but the transmission fluid needed filled every few days. But when I would take it in to get any work done on it the mechanics would always resist doing anything to it or try to run the bill up through the roof. The aggravation of getting work done on it is the only reason I got rid of it. And even still I kinda wish I would have stuck with it. I really miss the size, comfort and versatility of it. It was like driving a big family car one moment and then flip the seats down and suddenly it's a cargo van. So yeah if you're handy or can find one in good shape and can live with the looks then a minivan is hard to beat for all around usefulness.

    Cover rear floor w/ large flattened cardboard boxes when hauling bikes and stuff. If sand, gravel, dirt, or cement bags, put plastic under the cardboard, to easily corral debris. I did that in my pickup bed. One idiot borrowed his girlfriend's cross-over to haul a grubby engine, then asked the forum how to clean the carpet of oil gunk (yes, people are that stupid).
    Our 2002 T&C 3.8L AWD has 282K miles, heads have never been off, and still spec compression. Main problem was a cracked flex-plate at ~200K, which required removing the transmission so I rebuilt it. Not even worn inside (

    The 2006 & 2007 models are much more reliable than the 2005. I owned a 2005 for five years, and then replaced it with a 2006. The latter model has had very few issues compared to the 2005. It also has the 3.8L compared to the 3.3L in the 2005. Much better engine. Many of those issues with the 2005 were electrical. Power windows going out, leaking ac water under the passenger side of the dash. None of those issues with 2006. I do most of the mechanical work myself. I AM NOT A MECHANIC, but I was able to do it all by watching youtube videos. It’s really that easy! I would much rather own this than buy new and have a $1000 a month car payment. I love mine!

    • @williamgrissom9022
      @williamgrissom9022 2 роки тому +1

      Not a spot of rust underneath my 1996 and 2002 minivans, but that is in CA (plus 6 yrs in GA). If just surface rust, wire-brush or sand-blast it off and paint. Rust-removers w/ phosphoric acid also work. If you remove all loose rust and get to hard black rust, you can use a primer w/ rust-converter. For top-coat, I like Rustoleum black spray paint. If a rust-thru is a small hole in the center, you might cut it out to a solid round hole, then paint. If a structural problem, you need to weld new metal, but that would be only if severely rusted thru.

    I have the 2020 Pacifica. I much prefer the headrest design in the older generations. At least they’re removable and don’t interfere w car seats.
    I grew up in a 2nd and 3nd gen caravan/voyager. I miss the huge side windows of the 90s cars. But the new Pacifica drives much nicer.

Yes, I said vinyl, they are NOT leather. I know. I replaced my 2007 T&C with a 2006 T&C, and hated the vinyl seats so much that I swapped my old 2007 seats in. I don't care that they aren't heated, they're still better. The heat elements are somehow bonded to the vinyl so well that I couldn't get them off without destroying the vinyl seats.

    Honestly from a styling point the Grand Caravan just does it so much better than the town the country. The one thing I hate is Dodge uses so many cheap parts on their cars even to this day. I kid you not a bracket made of sheetmetal would of saved lines from under the car from rusting. Its just a Dodge thing. Don't get me wrong the grand caravan with the 3.8L gets down with some good power. Of course you can't compare it to a camaro. Overall most of the rust is just from the build quality of dodge. All these plastics on the under body of the car. All they had to do was literally put a box made of sheetmetal to prevent this. I would completly assume its just done so Dodge can make money. Chrysler has the luxuary parts of the grand caravan such as heated seats power liftgate etc. But If only the company spend a couple of extra dollars to make this caravan right I bet you dodge would of made a ton from it. Literally all of the grand caravans have the same rust spots and thats about it. But overall its pretty reliable.
