I think Robert would have felt the same about Aaron but, he did not want to lose Chrissie as he did love her very much and was very much happy. He actually promised Paddy and Chas he will stop seeing Aaron and he tried to stick by his word but, Aaron just keep on coming after him and did not even know how difficult it would be for Robert if the truth come out about them.
