Wonderful story Jonathan and I admire your talent and creativity. I have conversed with Danny as he helped me with some tuning buttons on my mandolin that he signed when he was with Gibson. Danny shared with me the back for his McClanahan and it’s beautiful. One day I would love playing one of yours. Are you the first person to add the 3rd point?

Hey Jim.... no buddy I'm not. The 3rd point was a very early Gibson design. I don't ever copy anything to spec, so I changed the location of the 3rd point by moving it higher up on the scroll and I also exaggerated it's curve as well.

Great story, Johnathan. Another beautiful looking and sounding mandolin. Did you work with David Harvey at Gibson for awhile?

      Thank you 😊
No I never did work with Dave. I worked mostly in the Carve Top department where we built the hollow body L5's, L4's, Birdland, Citation etc....

@@McClanahanStringedInstruments Back in the late 70's - early 80's (can't remember now) a guy by that name won the mandolin contest at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Ks. He won a mandolin that I built. Just wondered if it was the same guy.
