Citroen Dispatch Camper Conversion - meet 'Jaffa'

- This video has been created to show some of the detail and parts used in the conversion of our Citroen Dispatch Crew Van into the Camper.
As a 4 berth campervan 'Jaffa' now has a specification that rivals any camper of this size and will be significantly cheaper than the well know brand albeit not with the same cult following.
The van now includes - Warm Air Diesel heating, hot and cold water for the sink as well as the shower. A 112cm RIB seat/bed, Drivelodge pop top with bed, Fiamma F45s awning, swivel bases on front captain seats, Mains Electric connection with 110AH Battery and charger. We have also installed a 30 litre cold water storage tank and Solar Charging panel to the roof.

Very nice conversion - and to learn of another 'Jaffa.' Many years ago I had a bright orange 1977 Mk1 Ford Transit with a 'Motorhomes International' conversion.....of course there was only one appropriate name to christen it!
Just seen this vid and I really like the conversion. I am looking at buying a 2019 Dispatch mainly for use as a work Van but also want to do a removable conversion so we can get away for weekends
Lovely looking van. Your going to have some great adventures I'm sure. 👌
very neat looking conversion, you must be happy with it
Thanks - yes very pleased.

Looks good. Id honestly love just a good size camper like this with just a rock n roll bed in the back. Would be nice if companies offered that out the factory.
Yes agree some people will have different requirements so that’s why I like the idea of conversion to your own spec. If you want just a rock n roll seat from the factory then the VW Beach may be your best option but not as cheap as modifying a van. 😀
how the hell can anyone thumb down this van nice job m8
Many thanks for your comments ! Much appreciated … 👍
Very nice 👍
Thank you 👍
Looks class and loads in a small van
Very good !
Top job!!
Thank you .. 👍
I have a converted Fiat Talento with a 120 cm wide Rib Altaire bed fitted. I have been disappointed with the seat squad seating side. It looks like the squab seat side is made from at least two layers of foam and they have separated in less than a year, with use, leaving an obvious 90 degree step where the separation has occurred on the leading edge.
Although the bed design is a good one, in my opinion, the quality of the seats in manufacture is very suspect, because of the early failure of my seat squab. My seats are also in 'brick ' design. I have had it back to the converter but they didn't solve the problem. It would seem that I am being given the long wait treatment now. Not good service at all. I have found that the low awnings ( i have a vango cove air 2 ) are subject to the tunnel that connects to the van pooling with water above it in rain, because there isn't an adequate fall and also on caravan and camping sites, the van plus the awning is too wide to fit onto the standard pitch width, caravan and motorhome sites are o.k. for it though. The other thing is, I like you after I first bought internal blinds, bought an external blind. Both systems have their benefits and drawbacks but I won't use the external blind in windy weather now because it flaps in high winds like they all do and if you are near sand or grit ( like a beach pitch ) it blows under and mine has scratched the paintwork in the past.
I take both with me now to suit whatever weather it is going to be.
I have a drivelodge roof also, mine walked forward and fouled the deflector and wouldn't shut, so it had to be readjusted backwards and new locating round screws into round holes fitted to stop tge scissor base plate from moving again. It originally is fitted with oval adjusting holes where the bolts are fitted, 3 on each side of the van roof.
Nice conversion though
This is a really nice camping setup>
Difficult to design as everyone has different requirements, I saw a Nissan NVR conversion which was really cool.
However, its a smart van and I guess the pop top, Awning and kampa awning means this would be in VW territory maybe? But well setup all the same.
Very well thought out but it’s only available in Europe. I would bought one if it’s available in the U.S.
where did the captains chair swivel plate come from? I've been looking for one but can not find a UK stockists. thanks
Hi captain chair swivel plates were from www.kiravans.co.uk - need some adjustments but easy to do - good luck !
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Hi there what width of bed have you got and what width are your units please thanks Chris
Hi - mine is the 110cm RIB and the units vary as fitted flush to the Van but around 35cm next to the bed.
@@jaffavan5313 hi thanks for the reply so quick could you tell me where you got the units from please thanks
Templates were done by CVM World. They hold the patterns to assemble units in chosen material.
@@jaffavan5313 thanks for the shout :)
very good job ~ how much did it cost the conversion?
That all depends on how much of the work you want to do yourself or want to need to pay to be done. Contact CVM World if you have a van and want a quote - just mention Jaffa !
@@jaffavan5313 I am from Romania, I don`t think they have office here
Didn’t see any mention of clothes storage or toilet. Does the van have either.
Hi David - there is always a compromise with these sized vans and we decided to keep a portapotti in a carry bag at the rear of the van. We then just move it into the front over night. Clothes are all kept between the two small overhead lockers in the rear and also we use a hold-all bag.
@@jaffavan5313 That would work as long as the weathers fine and not much cold /wet weather gear is needed. Difficult in the uk. Nice van layout though.
What cable route did you take our from the battery under bonnet through cab into rear, for the leisure battery?
Hi Mat - The leisure battery is under the RIB bed/seat and the bulk of the wires are fed to the rear locker where the charger, control panel and mains 240V input feed into. The only wires running through to the front are the split charge connection to the vehicle battery which is routed under the van and comes up behind the dash through a new hole drilled next to the main engine bay wiring harness. This wire was fitted while the fuel tank was dropped to fit the diesel heating feed and the Eberspächer heater fitted underneath the van.
@@jaffavan5313 yikes. That sounds like quite a job. I have here a split charger, battery, and inverter and need to try and get the whole lot fitted today before going camping tomorrow!!
@@MatSmithLondon wow ! good luck and enjoy the camping trip.
Are the rear seats / bed standard or custom?
Hi Colin - the RIB bed is a standard purchased seat with the slider but we did modify the frame to bring the height down to allow more headroom for passengers.

Looking to replace the double passenger seat with a single. Or do I need to get 2 matching front seats. Thought maybe the drivers seat from a LHD might work. Any ideas.
Hi there where did you get your Tv bracket I’ve looked everywhere that’s amazing.
Hi - Amazon sell the brackets - dragon Slay 2 in 1 kitchen mount. Perfect for the smaller camper.
Love this. Just bought a 2017 Dispatch yesterday and plan to convert at some point. Do you mind if I ask roughly how much it cost to convert?
This will depend on spec you decide but will be somewhere between £10k and £15k with a convert or less depending how much you can do yourself. Enjoy !
Hi I have a Peugeot I've converted it my self but now looking for pop up top for hight and refitted out.
Did you do this your self or a converted out. Looks a great bus.
We used CVM world in Stoke and they fitted a drivelodge pop top for us - not many options for the PSA vans but very happy with it overall ! 👍
@@jaffavan5313 Thanks and did they do the hole conversion of the van as well cheers.
Just bougt one L2 version.👏
How much did conversion cost?
Well done camper. I'd love to have one in future
Hi, can you tell where you got the single passenger seat and swivel base from? I can't seem to find one for my 2018 Dispatch.
Hi Chris - single seats were already in the crew van and we purchased the swivel bases from Kiravans. Only needed one small mod and worked fine for both front seats. 👍
Thanks for approaching us to support your Camper build! It's an absolutely fantastic vehicle and we're extremely proud to be a part of their story! Have many happy adventures :)
For such a small van you made very big changes. I love how you customize the interior. Thanks for sharing and wish you a lot of adventures 😊
Thank you ! 😎
Hello here Jork from Germany, Swabian Alb. Just saw your video. Simply impressive your implementation of this camper conversion. Absolutely unique. respect for your work. She inspired me a lot. We are also avid campers. In our mid-50s we rediscovered this for ourselves. We are currently traveling with a tent. Kind of like yours in the video. We are considering getting a minibus. Is a Peugeot E Expert double cab. Identical to your Citroën in the video. But we are still at the very beginning. Will save your video. And use some of your ideas to implement something similar.
Thanks very much. Warm greetings from Germany
Hi, from Northern California USA 😊
Think about a Truma hot water on demand system, no tank. Another thing that we Americans have changed is that we went from solar to using the lithium batteries being charged with a second alternator in the vehicle. Also no longer using propane, went all electric. Love your beautiful designs. Very classy.
can't agree more. In 2021 nothing should be using lead acid - gel batteries. The Eberspacher could have been substituted for a Brand name unit from China giving a £1000 spend on LiFePo4 electrics. I've gone all leccy to - induction cooking -benefits you need a much smaller area bc no need to worry about heat from the flame - plus they store in a small drawer giving the space they would have used over to prep room. Low watt kettles give you a brew - without too much stem. I've even got capacity to run a heat pump in mine - however it is much larger
Nice build! Love L2 vans, they got so much potential. One thing I'm constantly lacking in this as well as similar presentations - luggage, where do you store it? As far I can see there is only one mid sized cabinet for it and besides socks, pants and some hoodie, you need sheets, sleeping bags, pillows, towels etc. not to mention that you plan to carry that huge tent. Is it even possible to pack more than just 2 adults for more than a weekend gettaway? Thanks
Hi ! Thanks for message. The bed is on a slider so there is some room behind the seat for hold all type bags and bedding plus chairs. However it is a compact van so always a compromise. Ideal for just two or a squeeze for more !
How much did it cost to convert? I have a Peugeot expert and wouldn’t mind converting it?
Hi Tom - all depends on what spec and how much you want to do yourself. Parts will be around £5-8k plus labour.
Superb! 👌
Is this about the same size as a transporter?
In terms of class yes same size but if you want exact measurements then please refer to manufacturers spec. 👍
Where did you get the roof mount for the tablet from? I’ve looked all over and can’t find one similar
Got it from Amazon ! Search tablet stand.. 👍
Hi did you purchase the single passenger seat or did your van come with it. If so where did you buy it
Started as a crew van with two single seats up front.
What window blinds did you have and where from? ty.
Hi - we got the screen cover and window blinds all from Beth at Fuellagoon.
One of the very best conversions I have seen in this vehicle. Seriously tempted to buy the ''Blighty'' Wellhouse e-Vivaro version next year.
Love any camper except overated Volkswagen
👍😂
Transporters look great but all keep reading is engine rebuilds etc. Sod that
@@slabbyrider8665 I converted a ford van as my line of work we went through alot vans mercs VW the lot and fords was the best lasted longer and cheaper parts to replace :)
Where's the jacuzzi...but yeah absolutely fantastic. Best CD camper I've seen. Highest quality conversion.
Hi I have the same van and would like it exactly as yours, did you do it or use a converter?
Hi - all details in the video - did some ourselves to start then used CVM World to complete the main conversion. Good luck and enjoy !
hi did you video the removal of the crew seat ? i have the same model and there's not a lot of info around on how to do it or how easy it is
Hi - no video I’m afraid but the seats unbolted from the floor very easily. Had to modify the swivel plates slightly removing a bolt that was welded in the way but all relatively straight forward to do. 👍
Nice van, i have a Proace Version van if i stop using it for work i would love to do that conversion :)
Hi, firstly thank you for showing the potential of this van. Your build is absolutely amazing, I hope you create some great memories. I would like to ask though, where could I purchase the passenger captain seat as I currently have a double I would like to swap out. Thank you.
Hi - my van came with two captains chairs so we just purchased the Kiravan swivel plates. You could try a breakers to find a second hand seat or post on social media ?
@@jaffavan5313 Thank you, that will be my next step.
Anybody know where you can get passenger side single seats? 2018 dispatch. Looked everywhere?! I don't mind a used one, just want to be able to move between the cab and the rear without leaving the van.
What was the total cost for a conversion like this including the van, its fanstastic. such a clever use of space and design good job.
Hi Adam - all depends on your Van age and options you want to have - contact CVM World and mention Jaffa they will give you all the options and costs if you want to replicate.
Really nice job be honest bud I have same van I have Citroen enterprise model , I had vw not as reliable as Citroen best van I had 👍
Amazing van, very inspiring!
@4:37, did you say "cessnesity"? I say that all the time!
S
No toilet , as a review on Fifth gear said you pay £65000 for a camper van and you cant have a po when you want , no thanks .
Yes I do understand your point of view and always compromises to be made and not for everyone. I only had less than a third of that budget and yes we have a porta potti but it works for us. 👍
It's such a lovely, well thought out design! I may have missed it, but do you have any kind of extractor fan to use if you're stuck cooking inside, or all indoors on a rainy day, or if it's stinking hot outside? (I live in Australia, not the UK, lol). Just curious as to whether the pop top gives enough ventilation, or what you do if the top isn't up.
Hi - thanks for your comments. The only ventilation comes from the small opening window behind the gas hob or as you suggest via vents in the canvas when pop top is up. We generally cook outside whatever the weather (a UK thing 😎) anyway so inside is only for boiling water or heating up items rather than cooking.
Would this be suitable for a Rifter
Sorry but not enough space. Not aware of any pop tops either.
What a lovely job.
Nice camper conversion ! How did you connect the leisure battery to the car battery ? Victron Cixtrix ct ? Dc-DC ? And how to run cable to car battery ? ( any whole that is vacant to use ? )
Thanks. We have used the PC210 charger and this is connected to both leisure and vehicle battery. The cable was run underneath the van while the diesel tank was down and the heater was installed.
Awesome !!! Do you know if the swivel seat plates work with electric seats ?
Hi Gary - on Jaffa there is only the sensor cable which is now protected in a conduit which runs through the hole in the centre of the swivel plate which works fine. If yours are fully electric seats I doubt it would be an option but best to talk direct to Kiravans as they supply the plates if there is an option for you ?
Does anyone know if a full width rock n roll bed will fit in one of these in the xs model ?
kitchen galley n other white cabinets design ❣️❣️❣️ nicely utilised all spaces ❣️❣️👍👍
This is one of the best ive seen so far
Is this a XS or M wheelbase?
Thanks - it’s a MWB 👍
@@jaffavan5313 Thanks for clarifying. If you don't mind me asking approximately how much did the conversion cost(excluding the cost of the van)?
The conversion costs will depend on how much you want to do yourself. By all means contact CVM world directly and mention Jaffa Van or drop me an email to jaffavan@icloud.com
That awesome love it got to be one of the best campers I've seen
Thank you ! 👍
Very neat van!! Lovely looking design x
Thanks ! 😀
nice job
Fantastic, so we'll thought through.
Nice idea with the roof mounted bracket
Hi @jaffavan! I have just bought a citroen dispatch XL! I love it. Its had carpeting & lining, lights and electrics with solar. We want to build a bed next. But I really love your wind screen jaffa cover!! Where could I get one from?
Did you install the awning yourself?
Hi Fuel Lagoon is where I ordered the screen covers. You can select the style and then add any logo or name you wish. Worth paying the little extra for the more durable material. Enjoy your travels …
This is so cool, I love it, its giving me a lot of ideas, new friend here
Thank you ! Good luck with your project.
@@jaffavan5313 your welcome and thank you
Nice build 👌
Awesome effort👏👏👏
Very clean, practical and sensible. Looks great and comfortable.
Looks great 👍 the despatch are a nice size and shape. I'm looking at one for work but thinking of making units that can slide in for weekend etc.
Yes really like the van - Clearcut sell some nice free standing Modular Pod units. Good luck on your conversion...
Wow This is sick 👍👍👍
Very nice conversion.
May I ask where / how did you get the drivers seat to swivel due to the handbrake being attached to the seat ?
Hi Peter - I purchased swivel seats from Kiravans and the drivers side comes with a new mounting for the hand brake. It was simple to remove the cable and replace again after the seat base is fixed. We then built a new cover in the same wood as the cupboards to box in the base. Hope that helps but happy to send pics if needed?
That looks very professional and actually perfectly designed. Well done. Wow.
Thank you ! 😎
Very nice camper, good job!
Thank you ! 👍
How much was the van? Then how much was the full conversion? Looks great!
Cost will depend on spec and options you require. CVM World will be happy to advise you.
Where did you get the kitchen units? Looks great!
Hi Tom - all built by CVM World in Stoke. 👍
I have just bought the exact same van, even the same colour, I love what you have done and wish I could see it for real. I can’t afford to get it converted by a third party though so I intend to do the work myself. Are you or your converters able to provide the plans and product list?
Hi Lee - great to hear and yes colour is the best ! Everyone comments about it. I have listed most of the items on the video that we have selected and all of these can be googled to get best prices. If you want to copy the furniture then I’m sure now it has a template at CVM World you can ask them for a supply cost in a material colour of your choice. Just mention Jaffa ! Enjoy the build..
Great, yes I realised that you had supplied a lot of the main parts info’ already, thank you. I’ll follow up on your recommendation. :-)
@@jaffavan5313 oh well. Thanks for the suggestion. I contacted CVM world and sadly they had no interest in helping at all. :-(
Hi Lee - I am surprised and sorry about that ? If you are ever around the Midlands feel free to DM via email and happy for you to take any measurements etc from Jaffa ?
I have 2021 dispatch can I get the same conversion done to mine ?
Hi Neil - yes absolutely! Contact CVM world and be sure to mention code Jaffa for deal price. Needs to be MWB or LWB model.
LOVE IT 👍
Joli !
what will you do when all deisel vans are too be phased out and you have too have an electric one.
When electric vans have the required distance capability I look forward to converting one but I suspect that will be many years away yet ! Just going to enjoy the diesel van for now …
@@jaffavan5313 good you enjoy yourself
I have an electric Peugeot e-expert campervan (same van as this) and it's great. Been all over the UK in it. Induction cooker, no diesel heater (not needed) heating/aircon at night and charge while you camp - never visit a petrol station! Range is 175 miles and fast charges at 100kW. Nice conversion @jaffavan5313 - did you ever have a problem with the seatbelt warning light for the missing middle seat?
Très fort !!!!!!!!!!
Lovely! Can I ask what the final bill was?
Probably spent around £14k total in labour and materials. Company that worked on the van is in the video - CVM World in Stoke.👍
@@jaffavan5313 Thanks for the reply.
I love the way you've set it up how did you attach the awning is it to the top of the roof with a bracket.
Hi Noel - yes the awnings can be purchased with specific brackets to suit the van.
@@jaffavan5313 That's great as I don't want to drill into van to mount awning rail.
Hello Noel and Jaffa. Great setup with the Spacetourer. I have a Spacetourer myself with a rooftoptent. I didn't want to drill in my van either for my awning. So I bought a Thule 3200 2.50 Antraciet-Uni Grey in combination with Thule 3200 Roof Rack Adapter, but I didn't use my roofrack, instead i put the adapters straight to the holes that are preserved for the roof rack using this 'clips' : Thule 52821 M6 Chimney Nut and it looks great! Greetings from Belgium!
Wow that is so lovely
Thanks 😀
Awesome van!
Thanks ! 😎
would like to see this van in crash test ;]
I wouldn’t 🤣
Where did you get the sliding window for the sliding door? Thanks!
It came off a scrap vehicle at CVM World. Citroen dealer spares can get them but not sure on the price.

What's the weight limit of the top bunk
not sure of the actual limit specified but I would limit at around 180Kg
Nice setup but for the price of the van + the conversion couldn't you get a used motorhome?
Hi - it’s all about personal choice really - I actually enjoyed the whole process of buying a standard panel van and conversion to my home on wheels. The final cost was in fact about 1/3 of the cost to buy the equivalent second hand motorhome. Of course if you prefer an older motorhome then yes you could buy one but personal choice in the end.
@@jaffavan5313 nice one mate! The new van must have been a proper bargain then!
I'm looking at used motorhomes and for a decent one it's about £30k.
So 1/3 of the price would be brilliant!
Yes I was lucky with the contacts for the van. Best of luck 👍
Got a bellows bungy I see buddy, great video, look forward to episode 2..... do you review 'guest' vans?? :-)
Smart that, lovely colour as well.
Thanks ! Yes colour is great with the black roof hence my name … 🤣👍
Love it, how much did thst conversion cost?
Depends on what you want to do yourself and what you want CVM World to do for you.
How wide is the bed ?
Hi it’s a Rib 110 so 110cm wide.
