Yeah, I was wondering “covert for what”? Especially with the scarf. I have one too, but it’s flat green and I keep it in my bag to pull out and wet (heh heh heh) on the trail. If this is for backpacking (I was half listening in the beginning, he said something about being in the woods right?), get some Columbia or North Face pants and jacket. And if you’re gonna wear minimalist kit under it, at least you don’t look like delta operator in Afghanistan on the outside. T Rex Arms did a good video on grey man theory, and this ain’t it.
Grid down apocalypse hence the “covert” 😎. Point being made here is the rain jackets ability to cover up the “assault gear” so at a glance you’re not a walking tell, just muted colors walking through the woods 👍🏼
Listen to true stories about Shtf scenarios. I listened to a few interviews from people in the Balkans. People walking around with hundreds of dollars worth of gear have a huge target on their backs. It's a fun fantasy but in real world scenario people with kits like that will stick out like a sore thumb.
Sk21 RT Agreed brother. But this isn’t “the powers out for a few days” scenario. This is full blown shutdown, every man for themselves for an indefinite amount of time. I do agree with Greyman though, for every scenario short of the apocalypse when there’s no resupply.
People are going to be starving and willing to kill for things as small as a lighter. You think you are just going to be able to walk around with hundreds of dollars worth of fancy kit? Your better off wearing shitty clothes and concealing a pistol. Otherwise someone is going to put one in the back of your head and take all that stuff. You want to keep what you have a secret. If my family is starving and I don't have anything and I see some guy with an expensive pack shoes a rifle fancy clothes etc guess who the target is going to be. You aren't going to be able to fend off every surprise attack. Just something to think about. The fancy kits body armor etc is fantasy.
That's why you gather your most trusted people and train them. You find a way to get them basic gear and you scavenge and take when possible. Im not saying to go around and GTA everybody, but there are military hardware stores that will be plundered. There are people that will sell their excess firearms (illegal grade). There are people that already will have close communities and those are the ones you need to protect against. The only way to do that is to outthink and outnumber them. There must be strict rules that deter desertion and incentivise working cohesively and the only way to do that is to provide defense and survival.
I got mine off amazon. Kong( a rock climbing company) makes the stand alone clipping mechanism or the entire bungee is called a personal retention lanyard. Believe it was 40 or 50 dollars when I purchased it.
“Covert” is relative and takes on different meaning, depending on before or after SHTF. Where you’d be a sore thumb walking down the street with a drop leg now, after SHTF the whole “grayman” concept changes. It’s all scalable 👍🏼
Lol, in what relative situation would this be covert? A special ops convention? Definitely some high speed, high quality gear! A lot of it is outside of my budget, but its all good stuff and if you ever have to put it to good use, you'll do just fine. Cool video though man. Definitely subbing to your channel.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut I can see that! Most people would look some kinda tactical (those of us that would actually survive)! Anyways, you're doing good man! Good videography, interesting topics, you aren't claiming to be a green beret, navy seal, space shuttle door gunner! Keep it up man, you'll go far!!!
Couldn’t agree more with you. One branch, hot ash or spec of dirt could take you out. Eye pro, foot care and trail hygiene, I feel, are often overlooked but are the most important.
Whole lot of Gucci you got there bro ,how is all that covert stick with regular Jean's and shirts you'll be spotted with all that name brand tactical products
I use what works brother. “Covert” is subjective to the threat level. This channel is about absolute worst case, shtf full blown mad max, scenario. Reason being: It’s more entertaining to watch and if you’re prepared for zombies, you’re set for anything short of it :P. Just scale back the equipment a little bit. (Trade Fjällräven pants for jeans) 😎
@@WhentheLightsgoOut Covert is not subjective. In a mad max scenario you would be referred to as a pinata. I'm glad you agree it's about entertainment and fun.
I respectfully disagree brother. Depending on what your baseline is. Determines what “covert” is and what grayman or overt is. If the mad max culture has everyone toting around guns for protection, and this is widely accepted as the norm, then the one trying to look like a “ grayman”, in the traditional sense is now the one standing out. Again, there is an entertainment value but the theory still holds true. Covert is subjective and ever changing with the baseline of the environment and setting you find yourself in.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut So we agree in the real world as it is today it is not a covert load out, it is a 'max max' loadout or 'zombie survival' loadout. There is no need to be dishonest and deceptive. Yes being covert in Afghanistan would have much different clothing style to USA, but there is nowhere on Earth this loadout wold be covert for, except possibly a movie set. At this point I am convinced you are fighting so hard about justifying the use of covert because you want to use it as clickbait for views, and will use any silly argument to attempt to disguise it.
“If not it still looks super cool...” And WE ALL KNOW - looking cool is what counts! Been waiting on this vid for awhile since I am a fellow Gear head. Love watching vids and getting tips from fellow dudes with the similar interests. Great work Cody. 👍👍
Since you are working on your nods setup; if you plan on running dual tubes, be advised you want a bridge (mount) that allows you to remove one of the tubes from your eye while the other remains in order to read the light conditions of your environment. Super helpful and in my experience necessary. Just my two pennies.
Not disagreeing with you man. However, you can still get quality clothing and equipment used from Military surplus shops. Trust me i would love to pick up some top shelf European equipment. But whats wrong with the stuff our own troops use? The only problem I can come up with is that it can be a little bulkier and being "used" it will be marked and sometimes a little dingy and worn.
There’s some truth to that for sure and obviously outliers on every end. But for the most part you’re trading something somewhere in the quality department. Always a give and take unfortunately. If you want high durability and function then you usually pay a premium for that. That’s been my experience with very few exceptions.
Everyone has a preference. I personally wouldn’t trust my life to used equipment and if there’s a more “efficient” or comfortable product out there then that’s what I’m banking on, but that’s just me. If you’re cool with surplus then I’m cool with it too 😎
Only issue I see here, and it's a big one... Is how long it would take to get that rifle into the fight. A goober could come at you with a drawn 22 pistol and take all of your gear. I can't get behind the no side arm theory. At least a pistol with one mag and no extra ammo would be better than no pistol at all, in my mind at least. Cool video tho bro
Weight over time vs probability of use is a tricky thing. While in a perfect world a handgun is a no brainer, carrying the extra firearm and even more ammo for it(for how often I would use it) didn’t fit in for my philosophy of use. My actual Bugout bag( INCH bag) is around the 75 lb mark. Any extra ounce at that level, over distance, could be the “straw”. Rifle is always slung up front on the inch set up and movement strictly limited to night travel under NoDS. Just taking the time to clarify here, don’t take this reply as me stating I have every detail down perfectly, only explaining the trade offs made and reasons why. Always love intelligible comments 👍🏼 thanks for watching.
Nice looking kit you put together. Never mind the haters. What they say is true, so tell them your gear will get dirty one day. Just pray it's not during your lifetime. I'm glad you are on the right-side son. Good luck and stay safe.
Idk how I stubbled across this page, but I’m glad I did. I do a-lot of urban low vis/non-permissive things in places and though I wouldn’t really call this covert more like less than overt I still really dig the loadout and 100% understand the concept and reasoning behind the kit that you use. Highly enjoyed the video even learned something (prl for drying clothes). Keep up the amazing content. +1 subscriber
Great point on the waist belt chaffing thing tho not many people actually think about that when building these loadouts and I just laugh seeing some of these loadouts that would work on a 30 min in and out mission but not at all in an actual SHTF situation
Captain J The BK I couldn’t agree with you more brother. I’ve had this discussion time and time again with others and it’s really a different mind set all together. Most of the gear is meant to be worn for short periods and needs to be heavily modified to work with your body for all day active comfort. It’s extremely important. Good call 😎👍🏼
Really unique ideas!!! Hat and the knives's positions are very cleaver and cool also the watch is great. The flares are very cleaver choice also the way that you cary them. Nice video!!! New sub.
Another great video full of detail. I have to say that I want to get the Gerber LMF2 survival knife, but I found that Moravnik made great knifes and a very affordable price. Keep with the good teachings my friend, because i found your videos very resourceful and full of good ideas...
Hey man, thanks. I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. I would recommend the mora line over a gerber knife any day. Mora is a Hands down better quality company. And very affordable. Let me know which one you go with. I heard the mora garberg was really good 👍🏼
@@WhentheLightsgoOut Yeah, the Morakniv garberg is one of the best and being a Swedish knife you cant go wrong (that will be in my BOB). But first I'm going to buy the Robusto as my EDC, I came to this decision after I saw a video of a couple of guys beating a Mora Robusto (The Indestructible Knife | Mora Robust ) with everything they have and they couldn't. Also the price is ridiculous just $14.00 with the sheath included
I have the LMF2 but gave it away and spent 4 years trying out other knives to find my ‘last’ knife. Settled on the Italian T5 by Lionsteel. It’s a beast but not too big.
Pretty cool load out, seems like a post apocalyptic setup, I could imagine you in a zombie movie, didn't realize the notch hat existed, you just solved a problem of mine, thank buddy 🤙
I'm digging it man. Always train and use your gear. People make fun of guys for being "tactical" but I say do it. These guys are either stuck in the old era or sit on the couch eating Cheetos all day. Props to you actually doing something bro. I just got back from overseas and you can bet your ass in between school I'm gonna be at the range or up in the mountains training
Not terribly worried about the Cheeto commandos. Just use what works. And that’s awesome man. Definitely keep honing those skills. Appreciate the comment brother. Stay safe. 👊🏼
I understand everyone saying that you will stick out like a sore thumb in a covert Scenario because of the high end gear but honestly If I was in that scenario I wouldn’t risk have cheap gear either
Always going to be a trade off. There’s also a time line where all this comes into play. Is this covert a week after a grid down scenario? Obviously not. Six months to a year into SHTF,WROL, TEOTWAWKI(which ever acronym you’d like to insert) a sturdy loadout may be more appropriate. Depends on the scenario 😎
Hey mr C Ive tried several Fjällräven pants but the pant you realy should try is the Klättermusen Gere 2.0. Also a Swedish brand and expensive. Bit as always, you get what you pay for. ;) One hell of a pant. Ive attended survival class aswell as K9 SAR and the life style beyond the trails. Make sure of you do, that it is the 2.0 version. Stay Safe brother
I should’ve said so in the video, but this is more so highlighting my second line gear. Just happened to have that pack with me. I’ll be doing a review on my INcH bag soon. That’s what I normally go out with to get some training in and subsequently what houses my med kit and Ifak. Same with shelter/trapping/more ammo and sustainment gear Thanks for watching brother 😎
😐I remember being at the airport and seeing guys like you, covert and all. Try a ponytail, beard, jeans, running shoes and a jansport backpack, a kbar spork knife combo in your pocket and an America express platinum credit card that has been sharpened on one side in your wallet. Just for starters.
@bLackstar lol. there is a little debit card tool at walmart I think that has a sharp edge to it. Peaky blinders is a great show. Not sure what happened to it.
Cool concept but not very covert. That rifle pack is a dead giveaway, even to the most uninformed civilian. A non-descript civilian backpack with an AR pistol or 9mm PCC would be a better option. And what about a backup 9mm pistol?
Nicely timed 👍🏼. I’m not a big tent guy. Bivvy once and a while. But I hammock camp mostly, Seeing as how I live in a swamp, it fits the bill. Hennessy makes a great hammock. Currently I’m using the warbonnet blackbird xlc but I’d like to try and get my hands on the new Sierra madres flat lay hammock. The versatility is important to me and I could always hang it low or go to ground using the hammock with bug-net as an enclosed bivvy . ( I use pads for insulation instead of underquilts for that very reason)
the price of Freedom is constant alertness and willingness to fight back. many people joining territorial defense forces of Ukraine without any basic protective gear and body armor and as a patriots they're fighting for freedom even being shot is anyone here willing to help with SAPI plates level 4 to protect Ukrainian people's lives?
It’s the windcheater jacket from hill people gear. The fur ruff is an additional accessory they sell for it. But the jacket has a pre sewn in zipper to accept it. 👍🏼
@@WhentheLightsgoOut hello again, sorry for the repated comments but I just wanted to ask what the carabiner you used to attach your gloves to your kit bag was, thank you in advance!
No worries. It’s just a simple black Diamond screw gate locking carabiner nothing fancy. I do put small ranger bands on the screw gate part for better grip and allows me to carry around more tinder 😎 the ranger bands I get from wazoo survival gear.
If the lights go out one finding .300 Blackout ammo will be more difficult than some more common calibers. I'm guessing this was a reconnaissance loadout.
Brian it’s something I’ve weighed out. But the ability to switch between subsonic and supers with the change of a magazine weighed out for me. I like the versatility of the round and the different roles it could play. Options are a good thing. But yes, this is a recon set up. My true INcH bag set up has more ammo. Also I’m not counting on a resupply, what I carry in is what I can count on having. If worse comes to worse and you had to “scavenge” 223/556, could always just swap uppers I suppose.
Flex cuffs are very specific items. I would go with heavy duty zip ties and triple them up for restraint. That way you have a multi functional piece of kit that provides the same exact function for less weight. Also zip ties are a much less awkward shape to try and pack. Don’t forget the ankles! 😎 Hope that was helpful and thanks for checking out the channel.
I like seeing how people from backgrounds other than the military set up their survival kit, outdoorsman especially. I wouldn't have thought about fishing gear in my kit... Good idea on the Rhodesian. Just one critique. I noticed you didn't want to utilize a warbelt platform. But speaking from experience, there's a reason why you see far less people using drop leg kit. Early GWOT people were using these like crazy (me included..), but then you find it increases your width which gets in the way when operating a vehicle, also decreases mobility if you are foot mobile as that thing will flop around if you run. Distributing the weight across a warbelt will make a more stable platform and help you support the gear on the hips, but since that is out off the table due to your chafing, a simple old school Molle FLC vest is extremely light and made of breathable mesh and allows you to create customizable a platform you can use to keep much of the gear off of your legs...while still maintaining the "covert low key" theme you were going for. It will probably print less than the chest rig as well. An older police tactical vest should also work well for this purpose as well, and should wear well under a jacket.
Thanks for the comment. All great ideas. The idea behind the “woodsman belt” for me was a second line kit that I never have to shed or take off. I’m constantly having to shed different shells and top layers due to rain and over heating. The chest rig I have now has to come off and put back on every time. The belt system allows me to have constant access to it,as it stays on my person until I hook it in my hammock at night. But I do agree with what you’re saying, the belt philosophy was just one I’ve adopted for me for those reasons 😎 stay safe brother. Thanks for the suggestions 👍🏼
The comment section is really on fire..... shame to read how people react and dont understand what he is trying to do.... My opinion, this is a great video! Also, people have to stop with that greyman stuff and invest more in trying to learn skills in self defence and other stuff. Greyman doenst work shit when shtf!
Pat E Thank you. I’m liking it so far. Until I can find something more comfortable. The rounds with the sustainment bag together. Weight adds up so quickly.

Love the kit! Some of it is a bit pointless though. You might want another way to carry your rifle cause it looks like your carrying a rifle, which makes you a target
If I'm carrying a rifle I'm gonna be carrying it in a way that if somebody were to conceive it as a target I could use said rifle to stem their curiosity.
Unfortunately not. I’ve toyed with it back and forth but It’s a huge weight penalty. So I went with a little more ammo capacity and stuck with one solid weapon system.
Its odd but i never see these guys talk about how their tiered systems link up together. Like how your EDC gear links up into your get home/active shooter kit an then links up into your bugout gear back at the house. Its all seperate set of gear with mo flow to it. I agree with what you are saying regarding a secondary weapon which could just as easily be a concealed carry weapon with a knife, gerber, and pocket flashlight.
VERY NICE setup, but you just stand-out in the loudest possible way. Maybe throw a Hobo ghillie suit over all of that. You need to look like Nick Nolte just woke up and stole some clothes.
Mountain Man I’ve toyed with this back and forth. It simply came down to keeping it quiet/shorter barrel for weight savings. Carrying extra rounds in the inch bag, half supers half subs. So there’s still Ability for some range should I need it. I have access to 556 within my group, could always swap an upper once I. Reach BOL.
Not gonna lie, I like the comment but "covert" isnt the word for this. Everyday youl stand out I'm a crowd and SHTF its obvious you've got at least something of value on you.
Fjallraven vidda pro. Can get them almost anywhere now. From amazon to backcountry.com. I’d look into there new vidda pro ventilated versions though a bit slimmer fit but I like them 👍🏼
Spent countless, countless hours making this system work with my body. Everything looks simple, as if a pack and belt were just thrown on, but that’s not the case. I just did 30 miles over three days with the InCh Bag(75lbs) and drop leg. There’s no way around it, that’s heavy and not exactly fun to do, but it’s more than doable and it’s how I train my rucks. There’s no one size works all answer for every one unfortunately, but these are the items I feel are important to me and what/How I choose to carry. 👍🏼 The take away is tailor your gear to you (the stays in my pack have been re-bent perfectly to my lumbar. The two layer belt system has changed from that inner/outter Velcro to a more traditional inner grip pad because I’ve found that you need the freedom of movement between your pants and belt while navigating terrain over long distance. Also the pack waist belt sits higher to allow the battle belt to move independently which helps with the chaffing 👍🏼 long winded but Hope that answers your concerns
michael leon. I usually do every outting, because it’s obviously more practical to keep concealed in the chest rig. But for a real long term shtf scenario it simply comes down to a weight issue. I’d love to have a secondary. But realistically. Carrying an extra brick and separate ammo just isn’t feasible in my mind. I justified the weight savings for more food and med supplies. (More practical survival items) to me. Mobility is another reason. If I added another drop leg. Just more to get hung up and slow me down. More about carrying less and fortifying the tools I have, rather than having more but limiting my capacity on both. Little long winded. But Those are my thoughts on a secondary for a true sustainment shtf scenario. What kinda set up you rocking? (Love to pick other’s brains. Constantly evolve)
When the Lights go Out “ shit happens “, machines malfunction, things break down. Like the saying “ two is one and one is none”. I rather take the extra weight and know I have multiple ways to defend myself. You never know.
No secondary is simply a weight issue. Rather more ammo for primary ( hunting and defense) for a long term scenario over two separate weapon systems with different ammunition. Thanks for watching
I feel like there’s a few steps to take to make you less of a target/threat (ie concealing weapons and kit) just to get you through major towns and then back to a more “capable condition” once headed back into the woods or away from folks. Flip side of the coin. Could always travel at night with NODS and skirt the whole grayman issue. Food for thought.
Depends on what I’m doing. Great for EDC. But For a long term Bugout scenario I can’t justify the weight of another gun with more, and different, ammunition. When carrying 80 + lbs those decisions start to weigh in. Literally. In a perfect world I would choose to carry a back up. But for an INCH bag it’s rifle only for me.
I love all the TAD gear its just so overpriced. I get it tho I'd assume many people buying the gear probably depend on it daily or at least very often in actual combat so its easier for them to drop that much on gear.
Captain J The BK some “less expensive” gear is still really good. One Tigris I believe is the name of the company. They make dupes of more higher ticket items and the quality is great in my experience
Yeah, TAD is a bit pricey but you truly get what you pay for. The EDC bag cost me about $500 and I’ll still say it’s the best money I’ve spent given how often I use it and what I put it through. I will say though, the 5.11 Rush 24 is much cheaper and almost as impressive. But I’m happy with my TAD pack for EDC/Work.
I would have to strongly disagree with you statement about black not blending in, in the woods. Black is THE most versatile camo known to man! Yes there are better options, of course. But if all you have is some black outerwear, you can learn how to make work in your environment.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut I hear that. Hope you are still kitting it up. I have built out a lot of Gucci gear this year after all the bullshit from last summer. Hope you are doing well bud
@@WhentheLightsgoOut haha I would but I am not on social media and haven’t been for a few years. Posting all my kit was catching me heat so I cut sling load and just watch UA-cam now
Rather spend the weight penalty on extra ammo for the rifle. Not an easy choice. But one I’ve made. In a perfect world you obviously need a secondary. But in an indefinite grid down scenario, when every ounce counts and there’s no resupply, I can’t see carrying two fire arms with different ammo. Just what I went with. Not saying it’s wrong or right.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut I see where you're coming from on that for sure. My school of thought is essentially that, especially during extended use, there is a decently high likelihood that you could experience a faliure of some kind with your weapon. In that scenario, (likely a fight I would assume) it's fairly unlikely that you will be afforded the opportunity to clear a jam or malfunction. That's just one reason I see a sidearm as essential.
I agree. My number one rule of survival is avoidance. I’ve invested a lot to make sure the decision to engage remains mine. Traveling at sundown only with night vision/thermal afford me a better idea of what I’m walking into. Again not right or wrong but I’ve invested in the mindset of avoidance and plan B: superior fire power and element of surprise.
Should have explained better in the vid. The “covert” portion is the beginning with the rain jacket covering the rig. Then expose the concealment layer to reveal and gain access to the little more overt tactical set up when need be. 👍🏼
Because of the weight issue, I’m limited to carrying just the rifle and ammo for the primary. Not ideal. But when rucking with 75lbs plus the rifle plus mags for distance. It doesn’t become worth it, for me, to carry a second weapon system plus different rounds. This system isn’t depicted here in this video. But I’ll have one coming out on my long range set up. In a perfect world you would obviously want a secondary. But reality often has different plans.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut Glock 19x whit 2 19 round mags and a17 in the glock . One mag can go on the leg were the mags are and One can be on the Holster or chestrig and a dropleg can be on the other leg . But hey I‘m only a german which has a fetish for gucci gear 😂😅
Nothing wrong with that. Secretly deep down we all do. And yes you’re right. But this isn’t my main loadout. I’ve modified and switched back to the Hpg chest rig(no load bearing capability for mags.) which leaves the only place to carry rounds on the drop leg. Knife is on other side dropped as well. There’s also helmet mounted thermal and night vision in play for my setup. So the way I see it. Is I’m more likely to freeze than get in a gunfight. So I carry more insulation over bullets. Everything’s a dance of weight vs function 😎 just my thoughts on it. Again. I’d like to be able to carry a backup gun. A .30 cal air gun for medium game and a bow when it all runs dry. But I need a cart :P
This is tactical load out with civilian non camo clothes, not covert at all. Covert would be if you could walk through society without people knowing you are armed to the teeth.
I’m learning to clarify in my subsequent videos a little better. My mindset with this entire channel is a “Mad Max, complete and total collapse, worst case scenario” covert in the context of this video is basically covering the chest rig and rifle ( your capabilities)at a passing glance. Rather than walk down the street in full kit. You still need your loadout regardless of environment. This is showcasing the fact that it can be covered until it’s needed to be revealed.
Tyler Tapp Ha. Never ending brother. Was just sitting here trying to figure out a more ergonomic knife carry option. Constantly evolving. But that’s what keeps it fun :P

Don’t be close minded. Climbing rated bungee is a useful thing. Works well as a foot loop for an ascender to climb obstacles. Just because folks use it in helos doesn’t mean that’s its only role.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut I was at a Ranger battalion for 3 years and never saw any practical use in the field for a retention lanyard other than for them to get in the way ... The retention lanyard has no place on play date hike. But , whatever squeezes your juice secret agent man.
There’s a difference between mission specific gear and multifunctional equipment. You Don’t have the luxury of resupply or changing out of equipment in an indefinite grid down scenario. Go to a hiking trail frequented by REI shopping Hippies and try to wear your covert load out without them calling the Park Cops. I appreciate the effort you put into this video but this doesn’t pass the smell test. If things have gotten so bad that you’re carrying this, you either want to pull a Taliban, (NEVER be out moving in broad daylight with anything in your pockets/on your person except for cigarettes/Dip, a comb, a BiC lighter, a pocket knife, and some cough drops, ALL your gun/tactical gear is scattered around your AO in caches), or, go full Tactical Timmy. If, however, calling 911 is still an option, you’re better off looking like any of the following depending upon location and environment: A) A typical homeless guy. B) A surveyor. C) A construction worker. D) Someone that shops at REI and is out communing with nature. E) A delivery driver (Pizza, Amazon/Fedex etc)

@Evocati he's just using his head, an to think that kind of situation won't happen is childish.. I mean just look at what people rob others for now
That's why you gather your most trusted people and train them.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut Well done...
You lost me at the bungee retainer for when riding in a choppppaaaaa.
shaldeman11 letting folks know the conventional use. Sometimes it’s good to think outside the box
shaldeman11 😂😂😂😂
@@WhentheLightsgoOut great setup, I'd like to know where I can get a bungee retainer
I got mine off amazon. Kong( a rock climbing company) makes the stand alone clipping mechanism or the entire bungee is called a personal retention lanyard. Believe it was 40 or 50 dollars when I purchased it.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut found it awesome dude thanx
Super not covert but I like how you set it up, lol.
“Covert” is relative and takes on different meaning, depending on before or after SHTF. Where you’d be a sore thumb walking down the street with a drop leg now, after SHTF the whole “grayman” concept changes. It’s all scalable 👍🏼
J Jax No disrespect taken brother. I enjoy opening up conversations 😎. That’s what it’s about 👍🏼
Lol, in what relative situation would this be covert? A special ops convention? Definitely some high speed, high quality gear! A lot of it is outside of my budget, but its all good stuff and if you ever have to put it to good use, you'll do just fine. Cool video though man. Definitely subbing to your channel.
Total collapse, welcome to the channel 👍🏼
@@WhentheLightsgoOut I can see that! Most people would look some kinda tactical (those of us that would actually survive)! Anyways, you're doing good man! Good videography, interesting topics, you aren't claiming to be a green beret, navy seal, space shuttle door gunner! Keep it up man, you'll go far!!!
Found your videos last week and have really been enjoying them! Great work!
tcranger85 Appreciate that. Thanks for watching 😎
I like how your wearing safety sunglasses! Oakleys makes a nice pair. It's something people should take more serious, eye protection.
I got to the shehmagh, every brand mentioned and was thinking of Ralphie’s decoder ring...”it’s a crummy commercial.”
“If not it still looks super cool...”
And WE ALL KNOW - looking cool is what counts!
Been waiting on this vid for awhile since I am a fellow Gear head. Love watching vids and getting tips from fellow dudes with the similar interests. Great work Cody. 👍👍

Donna Saitta Thanks for checking it out 🤙🏼 another one coming shortly
Since you are working on your nods setup; if you plan on running dual tubes, be advised you want a bridge (mount) that allows you to remove one of the tubes from your eye while the other remains in order to read the light conditions of your environment. Super helpful and in my experience necessary. Just my two pennies.
Solid advice. Got the BnVD set up with articulating tubes. Auto shuts off when up so I can use almost like a monocular. Still hard to shoulder.
Good kit costs$$! People who complain about the cost know how much their life is worth.Good stuff Cody!
BEARivrman81356 couldn’t agree more. Appreciate it 😎
Not disagreeing with you man.
If you’re cool with surplus then I’m cool with it too 😎
Great video thank you for sharing this with us.
>covert loadout
>looks like an Abrams tank

Thanks for the sub!

Ya know I’m sure that if you’re having to wear a full kit you’re gonna want your gun ready

I'm a simple man, I see badass guy talking about tactical gear and walking through a forest wearing cool ass kit, I subscribe.
Very nice set up, love the gear, not sure it’s “covert”. Ha. Liked & subbed

Hey mr C
Ive tried several Fjällräven pants but the pant you realy should try is the Klättermusen Gere 2.0.

So much cool shit in this vid. Nice gear!
Very cool kit. Where do you keep your ifak and water systems and shelter options? i have the hsgi platform and i love it. thanks.
Dont see the covert part but regardless decent gear will help others formulate their ideas which after all is the point of these videos
😐I remember being at the airport and seeing guys like you, covert and all. Try a ponytail, beard, jeans, running shoes and a jansport backpack, a kbar spork knife combo in your pocket and an America express platinum credit card that has been sharpened on one side in your wallet. Just for starters.
@bLackstar American Express platinum. Smooth the edge and sharpen it close to a razor edge as you can get
@bLackstar lol. there is a little debit card tool at walmart I think that has a sharp edge to it. Peaky blinders is a great show. Not sure what happened to it.
@bLackstar Learned that trick when I was 12yrs old.
Cool concept but not very covert. That rifle pack is a dead giveaway, even to the most uninformed civilian. A non-descript civilian backpack with an AR pistol or 9mm PCC would be a better option. And what about a backup 9mm pistol?
I think this should be called a "light loadout" or non plate carrier system. Cool but not covert imo.
No Ifak? No water container? No handgun?
So covert everyone knows to shoot you first and why no sidearm?
lol, .223 comments. That custom sheath is way nicer looking than what Mora usually makes. What's your favorite tent?
Nicely timed 👍🏼. I’m not a big tent guy. Bivvy once and a while. But I hammock camp mostly, Seeing as how I live in a swamp, it fits the bill. Hennessy makes a great hammock. Currently I’m using the warbonnet blackbird xlc but I’d like to try and get my hands on the new Sierra madres flat lay hammock. The versatility is important to me and I could always hang it low or go to ground using the hammock with bug-net as an enclosed bivvy . ( I use pads for insulation instead of underquilts for that very reason)

If you are walking around with battle belts and thigh rigs what exactly is the covert part?
This channel has post apocalyptic overtones. Not covert in the current sense of the word.
What is that coat with the fur around the neck in the thumbnail? if you dont mind me asking.
It’s the windcheater jacket from hill people gear. The fur ruff is an additional accessory they sell for it. But the jacket has a pre sewn in zipper to accept it. 👍🏼
@@WhentheLightsgoOut thank you kindly
Do u think hand restraints of some kind should be carried ??? Or save the weight and improvise as needed. Good gear tho
Sick gear bro!

Who tf put a dislike!?!
Donna Kelso Always gotta be one weirdo 😎

Cool vid bro. But no secondary weapon?
Unfortunately not. I’ve toyed with it back and forth but It’s a huge weight penalty. So I went with a little more ammo capacity and stuck with one solid weapon system.
Its odd but i never see these guys talk about how their tiered systems link up together. Like how your EDC gear links up into your get home/active shooter kit an then links up into your bugout gear back at the house. Its all seperate set of gear with mo flow to it.
I agree with what you are saying regarding a secondary weapon which could just as easily be a concealed carry weapon with a knife, gerber, and pocket flashlight.
Walk
Run,
climb
Legit
VERY NICE setup, but you just stand-out in the loudest possible way. Maybe throw a Hobo ghillie suit over all of that. You need to look like Nick Nolte just woke up and stole some clothes.
Whats the reasoning behind using 300 blackout? Nothing against the round it’s just that 5.56 will be plentiful in SHTF where as 300 blackout will not.
Reach BOL.
When the Lights go Out I understand. I Appreciate the response, keep the videos coming. High quality vids btw!
Mountain Man anytime. Appreciate that. You going the 5.56 route?
The contract operator load does not scream "covert" in the slightest. The drop leg kit especially isn't doing you any favors.
Not gonna lie, I like the comment but "covert" isnt the word for this. Everyday youl stand out I'm a crowd and SHTF its obvious you've got at least something of value on you.

It’s the Trijicon accupoint 1-4x great clarity but heavy. Now adays running an Rmr on a riser. Light weight and works with NoDS

Hi men, nice kit! Hello from RUSSIA 👍
Thanks brother, hello back at ya 👍🏼
how far do you walk with all that drop leg junk before it chafes
Just curious, why no sidearm / secondary weapon ?
michael leon.
When the Lights go Out cool. I just wanted to know your reasoning for it. I see your point. Can’t agree. 🤷🏻♂️
michael leon That’s what makes it fun. What’s your take on it?
When the Lights go Out “ shit happens “, machines malfunction, things break down. Like the saying “ two is one and one is none”. I rather take the extra weight and know I have multiple ways to defend myself. You never know.
michael leon. I hear ya man. Not a bad way to go. Hopefully never comes to it. Stay safe brother
What is the backpack? Didn't catch it
watchhowto pack is the Triple Aught Design litespeed. I believe they have a gen 2 out now. 👍🏼
Just found your channel. Gear list is well considered, and good quality, but not what I would consider " covert ". Question: Why no pistol?
No secondary is simply a weight issue. Rather more ammo for primary ( hunting and defense) for a long term scenario over two separate weapon systems with different ammunition. Thanks for watching
Is there really such a thing as a gray man / covert load out in a shtf situation every body is a target
No pistol?

No handgun whatsoever?
I would think the spare mags on the drop leg could almost certainly be foregone in leiu of a handgun and 2 spare magazines.
I don't think you know what covert means. But nice kit.

I see a few parts I agree with but in my OPINION there seems to be a bunch of bells and whistles.
Opinions are welcome. This channel is all about the bells and whistles 😎 love me some gear
Dammit.... just when I thought I had my shit set up and didnt need anything else....
Tyler Tapp Ha. Never ending brother. Was just sitting here trying to figure out a more ergonomic knife carry option. Constantly evolving. But that’s what keeps it fun :P
@@WhentheLightsgoOut very true friend, I've changed up my kit 3 or 4 times just in the past 6 months 🤣 everytime I field it I see little things that I need to tweak. I have a minimalist plate carry now and have been trying so damn hard to reconfigure it to keep it light but have good capability with it.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut oh and I'm brand new to your channel I watched this video and sub'd. Just out of curiosity have you done a video on your rifle?
Tyler Tapp You sound exactly like me. I tried to be minimal, Just never ends up working out. Survival trip planned starting Friday. Load out is 80lbs without rifle.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut dammnnn..... lol hope you got some calories in that bad boy. You gonna need em humpin that around the woods look forward to seein that if you decide to make a video on it!
where's that assault bag from?
Triple Aught Design fast pack litespeed 👍🏼
@@WhentheLightsgoOut thanks!!
Anytime. This is the V1 I believe they’re on to version 2 now. Same sweet bag. More features.
Come on people this is obviously a TROLL video. Relax
I think you meant CIA SAC loadout.
Ok
Theres something covert in this video?
Grid down apocalypse hence the “covert” 😎. Point being made here is the rain jackets ability to cover up the “assault gear” so at a glance you’re not a walking tell, just muted colors walking through the woods 👍🏼
I think you wanted to look like CIA SAC operative. How right am I?
Dunno what that is broher
Unless you inserted by helo, there isn't one reason on earth for you to be wearing a retention lanyard.
Most ridiculous sht I've ever seen and I've had to watch the national guard on a field exercise.
If you are in a situation where you are ascending by rope , you packed rope with a climb in the plan. You'd have a harness and gear specifically for an ascent. The retention lanyard has no place on play date hike. But , whatever squeezes your juice secret agent man.
There’s a difference between mission specific gear and multifunctional equipment. You Don’t have the luxury of resupply or changing out of equipment in an indefinite grid down scenario. What you have on you is what you make work. Again trying to make the point of thinking outside the box buddy, not everyone is capable of it.
@@WhentheLightsgoOut The gear you lack in your kit for a "grid down" operation yet you go to war about the validity of your decision to sport an aircraft lanyard.
Just dosnt make sense. Sometimes being outside the box , is because you were incapable of getting into it in the first place. Thanks for all the "mission specific" tips there civilian lifer. Take care and Happy hiking
What flares are those? Does anyone know?
Hey Allen. They’re just from the boating section at Walmart. Nothing fancy 😎
When the Lights go Out, oh alright, thanks man
Allen Thomas anytime 👍🏼
Would you like to donate all thst gear to the "me foundation" your contribution will make one very happy me.
Lol I do need a cheaper hobby
@@WhentheLightsgoOut lol you do you brother haters gonna hate. If didn't have three girls I'd also spend my money doing hobbies like the ones you enjoy. If you don't already have a family enjoy your single life and if do have a family like me than I need to get on your level lol. Thanks for the video!
No shortage of haters. Single life for now brother. Too many toys to play with 😎. Thanks for watching, stay safe out there.
👍
Get a med kit and a TQ.
Med kits Always in the bags for filming on shorter trips (like this video) Trauma kit and large med kit live in, both the jeep and INCH Bag 👍🏼 medical is important. Good call 😎
If, however, calling 911 is still an option, you’re better off looking like any of the following depending upon location and environment:
A) A typical homeless guy.
B) A surveyor.
C) A construction worker.
D) Someone that shops at REI and is out
communing with nature.
E) A delivery driver (Pizza, Amazon/Fedex etc)
