  • The Indian FTR 1200 Carbon is an INSANE motorcycle! When Indian Motorcycles sent this bike my way, my number one goal was to figure out what the FTR is all about. Today I'm sharing my experience so far and some of the clips I've managed to get of the bike in action. Let's run it through the paces and see what the ftr is made of. Here's my official ride, review, and opinion on the 2023 Indian FTR 1200 Carbon S.

    I think the coolest thing about this bike is Indian partnered with Razor (yes, the kids scooter company) and made an “E” version for “kids” lol. I have 2 and upgraded them to 72v for fun rides with our local ESK8 groups. Thanks for reviewing this bike! I really hope to own a “real” one some day.

We all are Americans in the end! Small things good or bad go a lot farther than most people think. Love your videos man keeep it up

    I have a June 2019 model RR. I’ve had a few years of riding it and I just love its willingness to do anything you want. Rockin the streets, off-road, touring and track riding. It’s comfortable, it’s fun and once you get a tune it pulls like a freight train, wicked bike.

    I own a '19 with over 17k miles on it. Absolutely love it. It's like riding a resto-mod muscle car of a bike. Rough and a bit raw, but with the modern ABS, TC, FI, cruise control, etc. Character. In contrast, my Tracer 9 GT, while being a fast, mile munching sport touring machine, is almost too refined, and lacks that certain something that the FTR has.

    That is a fine machine! HD had Buell. He had a plan. They discarded him. Made him build Blasts which are anything but that. They killed the Dyna. And have not made thier new Milwaukee 8 right yet. No chance I would buy a new HD but have given an interest in a 99 Dyna. That looks like a fun bike!

    It’s an amazing bike. I own a 2022 FTR R Carbon and just Love it. I live in central Florida, have ridden in open roads, highways, city traffic and back roads. I will not put it on trails, only asphalt or cement roads. My only 2 complaints are, would be nice to have a bigger gas ⛽️ tank and more comfortable seat; however I still Love it. Brakes, handling, technology, torque, acceleration, electronics and it’s Looks, just Awesome Amazing

    At last someone that tests a bike the way I want to see it tested.
    I'm 63 and I still want to feel the front end get light, bump over gutters and nature strip to save riding around one way streets. And feel the grunt of be a big V twin dashing from corner to corner. Going flat out on a highway is fun but it's the acceleration never gets old. When I see seen you go down stairs I thought " yeah that's something I'd do". Why do we a ride bike? Because they're not a Fucking car. So do things cars can't.
    Cheers from Australia 🦘

    I’m glad you’re doing some in depth content on the FTR. The dyna stuff is neat but there’s tons of dyna stuff on UA-cam. Your FTR content is great! I do not own a FTR, but I do have some experience with the Polaris Indian. I know all about that twitchy throttle. It’s a Polaris Indian thing. I ride a HD FLHR most of the time, but I do have a little Indian scout I rip around on sometimes. It’s a rocket. I can’t wait to get my hands on a FTR.

    I owned a first generation race replica of this bike. You mention in the video about how people were having issues with the motor at idle on a cold start. I was one of the people that had that issue. I was getting cylinder misfires all over the place. I’m sure Indian has ironed out some kinks over time. Honestly, in my opinion, one of the funnest, best looking bikes on the road these days. The only gripe I have at this point is the fuel tank size. If this came equipped with a 5-gallon tank, I’d be all over buying another one.

    There is a trick to turn off ABS. Lift the front or rear wheel and while stationary turn the wheel until the ABS light comes on. It records a fault and disables it. Turn off and on and ride off then back to normal. This works on most bikes.

(I just don’t want to beat on my beautiful bike.) I own four Indians. A Vintage, Chief Bobber DH, Scout Bobber and the FTR. I love V-twins and this bike fills the sport bike niche for me. With the right modifications and proper tuning this engine can easily make 120 Hp and 90 ft/lbs torque at the rear wheel. More than enough for some serious sport riding!

    I like that both companies are finally building cool, performance bikes. Its about time they got into the 21st century...

    • @KevXRDuke
      @KevXRDuke 8 місяців тому

      They made the XR. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the Sportster S. It is not rider friendly. That is why it didn't sell. It is a bitch to ride. With a simple exhaust swap, a tuner and a new filter it puts 90HP at the rear. So 100HP++ at the crank. 120HP for the Indian =115 at the rear. It comes with an Apracovovic system. So no need to change it. I also have a KTM890 DUKE R. It has the same HP as the FTR. The KTM is simple to ride with all the computer aids. Traction, wheelie, ABS. It makes it boring. Fun but not as fun as the XR. The XR takes off like a rocker from 85-115. That is why the FTR, the 890Duke and the XR compete in the Super Hooligan Class. No SportsterS out there. Pan American yes.

    • @SquireSCA
      @SquireSCA 8 місяців тому

      @@KevXRDuke The XR was interesting, but it was heavy and low revving... The looked cool and I am sure they were fun, but it was still a heavy old school sportster motor at the end of the day... And drivetrain losses are closer to 15%, so 115 at the wheel is more like 130hp at the crank... Plenty of power for the street, even though there are bikes making a lot more. My two current bikes make 150hp and 192hp at the wheel...
      I like rider aids... My first 20 or so bikes had nothing, but now that I have used them on the street and track I am a believer...

      Sportster S is a step in the right direction but it's a compact cruiser, the aerodynamics and ground clearance is crap compared to a proper sport naked. HD can get one out at a good price point with that engine and if the handling is on point I imagine they will sell lots of them.

    Repeat 'Moto America Super Hooligan' Champion.
    Taking down a field full of KTMs, Ducati, and of course the Harleys way in back. Race bike off the showroom floor! The competition is serious, and the FTR proves its chops.
    I get a good belly laugh when people say the Sportster S is an FTR competitor because I have no clue how a bike that sits crazy low, cant turn (very well) and can't achieve even 25% of what the FTR does is a logical comparison. HD has no competitor for it, and I'm not sure they have the talent to do so, at least without majorly ripping off its design.
    FTR tips- The old bikes have the cold start issue, not the new ones, due to an old tune. A new tune rids this issue. Similar with the snatchy throttle, a tune solves it! Open them up with exhaust, intake and a good tune. It turns into a true monster, which it arguably already is!

    This bike would already be in my garage if it didn't have such pitiful small fuel tank, having to scramble for a gas station at a 100 miles unless you haven't been to the gym in a month and need the exercise pushing it the last mile.

    Good review. I love the look of this bike, and it would be a great 2nd bike besides my sport cruiser. But, at $17k which seems waaay too much for "looks" and average performance. Also, a 3.4 gal tank, seriously? Not worth getting a new one. "Maybe" a used FTR in a few years?

    Harley doesn’t? Well because they don’t have anything like it. Just that silly sportster s. The Indian FTR is probably the coolest bike to come out in the last 10 years. I just wish they’d make a smaller displacement at a lower price point. A 750cc for $8500 would be right up my alley

      The Diavel is a bad bike. It will outrun the FTR easily. The Indian subjectively is more attractive but a used Diavel Carbon vs a new Carbon FTR would be a difficult call for the same price.

      @@ZackBadCompany1234 IMO, not really. Look at the power numbers for the new Nightster or Sportster S. Not for inexperienced riders for sure. Then look at the price. Very few under 25 year olds starting to ride can foot that kind of cash or have the skillset to handle that level power. Meanwhile Indian has options for them. Also the Japanese big 4. The 883 has just been discontinued.
