    Hi there , this is a so called Rev 3 type 2 or better Rev 5 type 1 board ( even it is labeled as rev 3 )
    cause as you mentioned in the video the whole area of the discrete curcuit is empty and a standalone oscillator was installed .
    Unfortunately the yellow sticker is missing , but this board was probably build in week 22/87 or later ,
    the first version started at week 12/87 untill 20/87 .
    But nice to see someone engaged on that old stuff :-)))
    Greetings

    There are many available software based PAL/NTSC switchers available on Aminet. In my video, I used Kill2090, though meant for the Commodore 2090 Hard Drive add-on, the archive contains two programs that can switch your Amiga to the desired Display mode and reboots your computer, using reset.pal or reset.ntsc: aminet.net/package/util/boot/Kill2090
    The ACE2 2MB ChipRam expansion for the Amiga 500 and 2000 can be found here (there is a limited supply, so when they are gone, they are gone): Link: icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/produkt-details/product/ace2.html
    One of my previous videos that shows a Kickstart ROM Adapter for Amiga 500 Motherboards from Revision 3 to 6A or 7: ua-cam.com/video/lBWPe-8g6ps/v-deo.html
    Corrections: The 8371 Agnus chip on my Revision 3 motherboard is the PAL version of the chip, not NTSC as I stated. Thanks to one of my viewers for bringing this to my attention. Head over to this link for more information about the dear old Agnus: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_Technology_Agnus

    Great stuff =D There are quite a few of those "Megachip" modern clones! I fitted one a while back to my 2000 (video coming soon). One point - you already have a "Fat Agnus" on there! The new 8372A (supporting 1MB chip) is classed as the Fatter Agnus, the one on the ACE2 is the 8375 (supporting 2MB chip), referred to as the "Obese Agnus" by the community. The approach you've gone with is certainly the best way to treat a rev 3 board =D

      obese agnus? what ???? you afraid of shaming the chip? its name is FAT LADY or FAT AGNUS

    • @amigaretro4765
      @amigaretro4765  5 років тому +1

      Thanks :) There are so many versions of the Agnus it is sometimes difficulty to get them straight. I know them best by the chip numbers.The 8375 is the most confusing when it comes how many variations there are. Wiki definitely helps in this regard.

      @@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I dug this up from this site: amigalove.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=513
      "Agnus Slang"
      Poor Agnus got called a lot of names, and most not particularly nice. It seems to depend on which continent you’re from, but I’ve heard various names thrown around for the various levels of Agnus’. I think it goes something like this:"
      "Agnus = 512KB"
      "Fat Agnus, Obese Agnus = 1MB"
      "Super Fat Agnus, Super Obese Agnus = 2MB
      "
      My A2000 does indeed have a Fat Lady. Does she sing? Only with the help of Paula. I am sure the Agnus naming convention was an intentional legacy perpetuated by Commodore ;)

    At this time, no availability of ACE2 on iComp shop. They're gone forever, as it was a limited run. It was the best product of that kind, really.

      @@amigaretro4765 Just an idea, it would be useful to produce an "empty" version of ACE2. Everyone interested in it, could source the 8375 chip himself. I say so because I have some spare to use :)

      @@mark12358 , Not a bad idea at all. I also have a few spares kicking around. I would suggest heading over to Individual Computers and contacting Jens (the Lead Developer) via their Forums and see what he thinks. It would be great if they agreed to make an empty socket version as you suggested.

      Thanks for watching my video. I know some side car expansions may have issues with the side expansion port on Revision 3 Amiga 500's, I believe Individual Computers' ACA 500 plus is one of them. As mentioned in my video, the ECS Denise fails to output any video on the motherboard. This confirms at least one incompatibility between a Revision 3 and a Revision 6 motherboard (in my case at least). I have not tried a 512KB expansion card with a Real Time Clock yet, especially in conjunction with the 2MB Chip Ram expansion. I may attempt these expansions and more in a future video. I would also like to investigate the ECS Denise Display issue further as well.

    I would like to know how you got your Amiga working with that display. It looks great. I'm still using a composite 1701CRT which has faded over time from it's former glory. Thanks (p.s. ordered the ACE2 expansion per your review)

      In this video I was using the OSSC (Open Source Scan Converter) connected via the RGB out. It converts RGB to HDMI out as well as other video formats. It works well but is an external unit meant for a variety of consoles. It also cost more than most Amiga offerings. The Amiga Scan Converter I like to use for the Amiga 500/2000 is the ECS V2/V3 from Individual Computers. It plugs into the Denise socket and replaces the Denise chip all together. It supports both OCS and ECS modes on Amiga 500 Revision 3 and up. As far as I know, it works on any model of the A2000.

    These agnes adapters were 170 euros! Better to buy an A500+ for this.

    • @amigaretro4765
      @amigaretro4765  4 роки тому +3

      Things can get a bit expensive indeed but it's still worth it in my opinion. It's an easy way to upgrade for an older Amiga 500 to 2MB of Chip Ram, 100% Plug and Play.

      I know this comment is a year old, but where I live only the ones in bad shape are that cheap. I think this is great especially if you already have an older revision. That is why I got one.

    If you really want to use ECS Video Modes with your rev3 A500 you should use the Indivision ECS V2.
    That is an FPGA ECS Denise replacement wich gives you a flicker free VGA Video output.
    The Amiga resolution can go up to 1024x768x4 and the VGA output can be up to 1080p
    The Indivision ECS V2 can handle ECS Video modes if an ECS Agnus is installed (with the ACE2 you have one)
    To be 100% sure that it will work, you should ask at the icomp.de forum, but regarding on the product information page it should work with any A500.

    • @amigaretro4765
      @amigaretro4765  4 роки тому +1

      Actually, that was my plan :) I have an ECS V2 installed on one of my other A500s that I was going to try on this motherboard. If it works, it would be the best solution indeed. Thanks for watching the video and your response. It's nice to hear feedback!

      @@amigaretro4765 Cool, it would be interesting to know if the Indivision V2 really can handle ECS Modes in the Rev3 A500. I have only a rev 5 and Rev6a A500, both work fine with the Indivision V2 in combination with the ACE2

    Ace2 B?

    • @amigaretro4765
      @amigaretro4765  2 роки тому

      The ACE2B is the next generation of the ACE2. It's a slightly larger board with a socketed NTSC 2MB Agnus Chip (The ACE2' s chip was soldered on to the daughter board). I bought one of these about 6 months ago but have yet to do a video about it. Perhaps I should.

    From everything that I have read, this will NOT work with the Revision 8 motherboard.

    • @amigaretro4765
      @amigaretro4765  3 роки тому +1

      I am not sure if I said it would or not. If so, I was incorrect. Most Revision 8's have 2 Megs of RAM installed, making this adapter pointless anyway :)
