This Erick guy is very smart, his explanations are top notch....
The more you tax, the less you collect as consumer's move to cheaper/ illicit liquor. I wonder whether those who set these tax policies think about long term implications
They dont think...one defining factor of african governments
Guy is sharp
Today's conversation was a good one. In my opinion, I have underlined department of planning as the main problem. Planning is based on data; feedback. The census is one spot for data collection. We all know the previous one was messed with.....so basically planning is just chaotic for the data being used is not correct. Therefore, in my opinion, the department of planning MUST be replaced based on their mindset. The more they add taxes mid year also shows they don't know how to plan.....that's just my opinion. Good day
Kenya has high taxes cost of production is high every county has higher taxes that's why goods from Tanzania and Uganda are cheaper
Sometimes we sit and think as consumers that the rising of alcohol in Kenya is for the comfort of producers but from this conversation I realize that the manufacturer is really suffering and despite that the government is still hardening the situation
Personal I like this show alot because of the guests that they bring. But my biggest problem with the show is that they never have any rebuttal by inviting the government into the conversation. It would have been a better conversation if the government was represented especially in this case KRA/finance ministry/ trade ministry and any other ministry representatives. Am always left empty most conversations are against government policies yet we never hear from government to hear from them as to why or what they are doing to be better why we are not competitive anymore against our neighbors.
Well knowing how bureaucratic and rigid government is then probably they get invited and become a no show

Probably so.
Does parliamentarian have this information when discussing the National Budget?
Just visit a local wines and spirits shop in your area you will find 25Oml spirit selling for for Less than 100 shillings. I stop wonder are they even safe for consumption, where is the regulation? Counterfeits are everywhere in this country, buy alcohol from the supermarket than the liquor store just to be safe.
Because the government is killing industry with its stupidity
Gava: One beer for you, one beer for me. But I'd rather take the money.
This is a sober discussion on when your government significantly overtaxes the taxpayer. I am sorry to say it's high time that this discussion must be heard before any election.
The illicit has made the youth to stagnate in growth & dev. Men are also becoming impotent & families are colapsing & the rate of single mothers are also increasing.
It would have been good if u guys invited some 1 from KRA to respond to their concerns
They never do. They are invited to sector and last time we invited to our sector meeting they were useless as hell
I thought you could have mentioned something about our "self righteous leaders" who are against alcohol consumption and may be using taxes to this effect. We have seen it, fighting alcohol is the first thing every governor wants to do when they get to office.
There's no new investor who can afford to start a manufacturing business in Kenya. Even a Kenyan would rather start a business in the neighboring counties and export the product to Kenya. It's a very sad situation because manufacturing is the best way to reduce unemployment. We need to get another Kibaki as president.
39:21 Lol Latiff! What is gov'ts job then?
Government increases tax because it assumes that drinking alcohol is bad for society. A vice that should be punished.
thats a stupid idea...society is built on the idea of freedom. Drinking beer is not a vice and i should be free to enjoy something that is legal without the long arm of government
Why don’t you move your business to tax friendly jurisdictions? Threaten to close and move operations and the government will start listening! That’s what American companies do….
In kenya someone will come in the market...replace you and you won't appear in the market again because of politics
@@Mtanzakenya Actually thats false..we have some of highest taxes in the region, low business incentives and an over-regulated system...include corruption, high asset and production costs and everything looks bad.
Can you name one manufacturing company that has set up in Kenya in the last few years?
Just because the president doesn’t drink he thinks every one should not drink.
What a clown
If you're going to drink beer, get drunk lol
THE AIM WAS TO GIVE CHANCE YOUR FORMER PRESIDENT DRINK ALONE LIVING OTHERS USE cHANG`AA
