Crystal Snail/Cristar Mymine (Mega Man X2) Metal Guitar Cover. I originally did a cover of this stage theme many years ago, back in 2015. Since I’ve been releasing my covers and original songs on streaming platforms such as Spotify, and the recording session for that cover is long gone, I decided to redo this cover from the ground up.
The Mega Man X series has amazing OSTs and the Crystal Snail stage theme is no exception. What immediately stands out is how often it switches between time signatures, at first from 6/8 to 7/8 repeatedly and later on even throwing in some 4/4. Working with this incredible base was both challenging and tons of fun. This was also the perfect opportunity to cover a lot of range! From a low A# on the downtuned seven string to a high D# on the RGA, there was a lot of ground to cover.
I also wanted to throw in a little special something and I hadn’t used my mandolin in a while, so I used it to enhance a few clean sections. Guitar is my home instrument and it will always give me the most joy to play, but it was fun adding something different that could still be complimentary.

Mega Man X covers are the best in all VGM for me. It's just that iconic 80's metal sound but instrumental. Love how you covered one of the underrated themes of X2. The different parts tell a story, just like a rollercoaster with different emotions expressed in each part and different types of energy showcased. Nailed it!
Mmx songs are so satisfying to play on guitar, it's true! Feels like a perfect match. Glad you caught the energy and emotions of the song as that's one thing I like about the original and wanted to expand on. It has that quiet crystal-feeling I tro with the epic "chorus" so it was a lot of fun imagining this into a full song. Also wanted to catch that triumphant feeling of getting the heart container, defeating the optional boss, the mini boss, and the snail himself all in one level. Thanks man!
Today's cover song was also very divine! I feel at peace when I listen to this song, it's like a massage chair for my mind.
Thank you! I'm glad I could make something enjoyable that has good flow, especially with these changing time signatures
okay this is 🔥I like how it starts "calmer" with your playing of the appregio with your guitar and than goes full metal! You did a great job to give the darker rifts space and the heroic leads =) a nice playful arrangement, such an epic cover!
I also really like the tremolo playing in the "drop down the radar" section :) what a nice mandolin sound ^-^
really like this cover, you can really see and hear the effort you put into this song =D! High Z goes High X-Zero if you ask me xD
Thanks dude! I was inspired by the original and spent extra time thinking how to make everything fit with all the layers. The time signatures were a big clue as to when the song should be crazy or epic.
Definitely agree with the nandolin, double track panning acoustic instruments always sounds so satisfying.
I'm glad you enjoyed this cover!
Wow, that was epic. Love the Solar guitar too. Thank you for sharing. Cheers!
Thanks! I like it's neck profile and it sounds good
Love it man, hurting my brain with the timing
Great tones and awesome lead runs, great spacing of instruments in the mix
Thanks dude! It definitely took a few tries to be able to keep track of while I'm playing while counting the time signatures. It was great fun but definitely tricky
@HighZ Yeah I was trying yo count it whilst listening at work and it stumped me lol 😆
@@thefourthwritedjentleman3643 No worries! Basically the verse/hook alternates between 6/8 and 7/8, and the "chorus" stays in 6/8 for like half of it before going to 4/4, and finally doing the hook but higher.
@HighZ Ahhh that actually makes sense - appreciate it
Sometimes I wish I had played more classic games like mega Man. My friends always had consoles but I was a PC gamer
Console gaming was a unique experience! Might be a hot take but I feel like the original hardware experience hasn't aged well i.e. non-ergonomic controllers. Emulation solves this and other bumps in the road of the classic gaming experience!
Love this!, killer job dude!
Thanks man! I tried to do this one justice

Great job 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Yo can you do wheel gator?
Definitely looking to do some X2 sometime in the future
