- A transcription of Slide Hampton's solo on "Pajama Tops" off of Curtis Fuller's 1958 album "Two Bones" with Sonny Clark (pno), George Tucker (bass), and Charlie Persip (drums).
*note that though the album was recorded in 1958, it wasn't released until 1980 due to licensing issues
This may sound stupid, but what are the sort of infinity looking symbols called above someof the notes and what does it mean? Im new to jazz.
It's called a turn, It's a very common form of ornamentation in classic and jazz
Listen to what JJ is doing right at that moment in the solo, it should become obvious.
@danparker8254 Yeah, I figured it out a WHILE ago. I kinda lmew at the time but I was new to jazz and didn't listen as much as I read the music. I've matured since then and now listen to mainly think and Analyze instead of reading a robotic sheet of paper lol.
Thanks a lot man !

I think that might have been Curtis fuller that you transcribed.
Maybe! I'm not 100% sure, but I think the next trombone solo on this track sounds more like Curtis than this one. Slide also used a lot of turns in this solo, which is something Curtis hardly did in his recorded solos from this time. Also some of the language in the second trombone solo sounds just like Curtis. Still, I don't know for sure!
Thank you!!! And good work.
Thank you, Will!
GRACIAS!!
