El Rey de la Huasteca | Violin Solo

- I made this for Father's day and I wasn't really going to post it but I have to say, it's very rare that I get to share a bit of my culture so here it is ♥️
My dad loves a style of music called "Son Huasteco" that was born in the territory of the Huastec Civilization, which is vaguely the coast of Mexico (Veracruz and so on). Very long story short, it is a combination of our ancestors' musical traditions and the European influences from the colonial era. This is the reason why a relatively modern instrument like the "violin", became essential to the "Son Huasteco". It is still considered a type of Mariachi Music so you may have heard similar music. However, this particular style is characteristic of very fast and virtuoso playing, especially from the "fiddler".
Just like one could say that certain styles of celtic music may be the fiddle of Ireland or Scotland, the "Son Huasteco" is in many ways, the "fiddle" of Mexico☺️
I'm not exactly a Huastec fiddler myself so if anyone comes from that long tradition of fiddle playing, let me know if you have any tips or suggestions! 😉
Note: I added some double stops in the solo because I had to play it on my own and I didn't have a Guitarrón to play along with me haha. The original piece doesn't have some of those extra notes.
Fun fact: I had never actually played Mariachi Music in Mexico. My first time playing it was funnily enough, here, in Canada 🤣
I'm Mexican and I live in Hidalgo, omg, this is perfection.
Please play "Malagueña Salerosa"
Wow! Very exciting! Well done!
Where did you get the music sheet?
Also, it is really amazing. I am Mexican and I want to play something like this for my Senior Solo in orchestra
Hi! Sorry, I lose track of UA-cam sometimes but thanks for your comment! I don't have the whole arrangement, I just transcribed the famous solo section from one of the recordings. If that helps for your recital I'm happy to send it to you. Good luck! ;)
@@h.felixflores8375 I would really appreciate that!
Send me your email through my inbox and I'll send it through. If you'd rather do it a different way, let me know :)
@@h.felixflores8375 to be honest I don't know how to do inbox on YT
Bravo! 👌
I’ve played this song back in hs great memories😭!
Wonderful, so punchy and beautiful!
Thank you! I really appreciate it and funnily enough, my last name is also Alcantara so greeting from Toronto! Take care :)
@@h.felixflores8375 Thanks again for your brilliant playing. I live in Paris but I'm from Brazil, actually born in Mexico when my Brazilian parents spent a year there. Alcantara is actually part of my first name, not my family name (you know how complicated our Latin names can be!).
@@PedrodeAlcantara Oooh that's so funny! I'm originally from Mexico but I'm currently living in Canada so yeah I have some understanding of our weird latin names haha. Thanks again for your kind words. Hope all is going great in Paris, take care! :)
Wwwwwwwooooowww, just magnificent 👌.
Muchas gracias!

Saludos
How long did it take you to learn this ? I have a mariachi group and I would LOVE to learn this, I’m a junior in hs
It honestly didn't take me very long but I've been playing for a while now haha. It's also one of those pieces that appear to be much more difficult than they actually are so I think you should go for it! I bet it's really fun to play it with an actual Mariachi band :) Take care and happy practicing!
@@h.felixflores8375yeah what’s difficult is playing it with style. That’s the only thing that’s missing. Are you primarily classically trained?
👏
