Really. The only way to save this country has nothing to do with the civil service which has been around forever It's like blaming immigration on the state of the country .It's a cop out .
The only chance of this country being saved is to introduce PR .This first past the post two party system serves nobody well .This is the only country in Europe that has this system apart from one other and that is practically a dictatorship .
PR would also prevent any other political party of any colour doing the damage that this one has to the fabric of society and public services .

I'm waiting to see if they actually release the details of what he was found guilty of doing or saying before I make up my mind completely, but from what I've seen thus far, it appears that the Sir Humphrey's and even the lesser Humphreys have finally found that their time has come to decide who they want to be in charge ... and that, in my opinion, is not only wrong but the start of the fall into anarchy. The prime minister has also, on the face of it, caved to the civil service and, if that is true, is not fit for the role.

They need to reinstate objective selection processes. The problem with the civil service is that there's too many second-raters preferring second-raters. The entry examinations don't even need to be that difficult; it just needs to be something that people aren't recruited because of their politics or because of cronyism or because they're reassuringly feckless or because they really need the job because they've got a mortgage, children and a smart-phone addiction that wouldn't be tolerated in the private sector. Where I work, most of work involves using computers. Barely anyone is literate let alone computer-literate. And if you insist on standards or urge them to do a bit of self-improvement, you get called a bully. It's appalling.
