Joep van den Brink Doesn't have to be just your childhood, everyone can enjoy this game at any age. And EAW has one of the biggest still active communities in star wars games (behind TOR and KOTOR of course) and thats a testament to how good it is. Young and old still love it. Until he can afford it, my friend has my physical copy, doesn't work on my pc, but when i saw it was on steam and at that time on sale , i didn't give it a second thought and bought it again. Funny story is i got it back in 2006 when i lt came out (i was 4) and i got it for like 2£ at a flee market. The game also has a still super active modding community, showing off how devoted we are as a fanbase to this unique star wars title, because we haven't had a reason to move on. No one has stepped up to breathe new life into the Gold mine that is the potential for a new SW RTS. Hell id pre-order any kind of EAW 2 (as long as certain ppl *COUGH COUGH* don't even fucking try and leave it to a team who know how to do Star Wara justice)
Ahhhhh. Empire At War. This game is my childhood. In fact I think this was my first game I ever played consistently during my childhood. It was this that put Star Wars into a large scale perspective for me.
Finally UA-camrs I love playing one of my all time favorite games, such a nostalgia hit! I played the hell out of this game growing up and having it be Lewis and Ben playing it is just all the more enjoyable~ :D
Easiest way to start is create a defensive concave around a ship yard world where you minimize possible entrances to you controlled planets to 2 or 3 with the same number of fleets. Easier than defending scattered bases across the galaxy.
Im so fucking hyped for this series guys, Ive played so many hundreds of hours of this game and the expansion. After Birth of the Federation I was hoping you'd get around to the Star Wars version of it, I'm glad you did!
I love this game, please keep playing it. By far the best star wars strategy game out there. A few tips the icons on the right side of the map give you helpful overlays. Ben probably knows this already, but any way please keep playing this game and maybe later play with some of the cool mods.
YOOOOOOOOOO i got great idea! do a KOTOR lets play sins not many people do a KOTOR lets play with facecam and such and so i can see lewis fail more as he fight like 10 crminials in the underworld of taris XD
Corvettes are the back bone of your SUPPORT fleet as they do off fighters and bombers while the bigger boys come to damage the enemy ships and to defend the Maurauder cruisers
Ben.. plz... put on the god damn extra information.. that would be a lot better to look at and it will give Lewis a better understanding of the game as well as your viewers that have never played this awesome game before :)
SteelRodent1456 It puts on a massive number utility blips underneath worlds. Heroes will appear on top of stacks, incomes, space station levels, and structures available and already built will appear as info underneath the planet. This game is starwars hearts of iron.
Use the 4 buttons along the right side of the minimap to turn on all the extra information like building level, credit income, etc. Also, don't forget that you can select buildings or space stations during tactical battles to buy special upgrades which persist as long as you control the planet.
Mining facilities bonus is a percentile one, meaning that building it on worlds with a low income is a horrific mistake as your mines wont pay for themselves in ten turns.
Tips: A ship without hyper drive can't retreat If you kill a ship's shield generator they cannot regain shields If you destroy the hangar bay no new ships can spawn X-wings are both fighters and bombers (best one man ship in the game) Don't consolidate your forces on one side of the map (seems the smart move but the Empire wins by fighting huge battles using overwhelming fire power, rebels win by hitting the weakest points of the Empire)
Personally, I was always fond of the Forces of Corruption add-on pack (mostly because of the Eclipse), but there are a number of good mods suggested down in the comments here that would certainly be worth a look. I'd bet you could manage a fair few play throughs just from trying a few of them out.
Wow once again Ben is against Tom in a game with troops and controlling locations but in order to not take knowledge from the doomborn he has brought along Lewis. Sharky and palp have turned on each other
I love EAW but wheres my next episode of Battletech damnit???? Also the more I watch of you guys the more convinced I am that Ben is my spirit animal :P
I’m almost 100% sure that Ben only joined Lewis for this channel because of the fact that Lewis has a poon by him at all times, in game and irl probably...and the shark is scared....especially without his palp...
Oh yeah also the supreme commander games Of cause this is Lewis saying this, he has always certainly been one to ignore story and complain later when he does not understand whats going on
Oh man, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, pure gold. Ooh or Homeworld! I do get where they're coming from though, there are quite a lot of RTS games that are mediocre/good mechanically and thematically, but have a _terrible_ story.
+MyPotatoFlew Eh, everyone has differing opinions on its story, for me it was WOL was nice, Hots sucks and LOTV was ok. (sc1 story was great) However this was in terms of a campaign as it ain't just about the story as it is with games in general.
Why did no one tell me this game existed, it looks absolutely amazing for a massive Starwars fan like myself! I actually went and bought it on steam halfway through the video. Also I wonder if all the ships and vehicles are still cannon, probably not but I've seen most of them in armada so I'll at least know what they do..ish. Some criticism though guys, maybe slow down a bit for us noobs (and Lewis) who've never seen the game, I realize Ben has probably played this a thousand times but Lewis and some of us fans have no clue what's happening most of the time. Keep this series going guys!
There's a load of amazing mods for this game (that are honestly the only things keeping it alive, seeing as it's 12 years old). I recommend Thrawn's Revenge, Awakening of the Rebellion, Phoenix Rising, and Republic at War (or if you prefer more of the Clone Wars show, the Clone Wars mod is good too).
I saw some people mentioning the mods, I'll certainly be trying them out, particularly Thrawn's revenge as I'm on the empire side like Ben :) I'll look into the other one's you said as well because sometimes it's fun to be the good guys too. Thanks for the suggestions. :3
Thrawn's Revenge just got a huge update too, so it's a good time to play it...although, you might want to either get used to the base game (or other mods like Republic at War) or else watch some videos on it (CoreyLoses is one of the devs, so that's a good place to start) first, as TR adds tons of new mechanics (like changing eras instead of upgrading tech, and the ability to board and capture ships), not to mention the fact that it's pretty unbalanced unit wise, compared to the base game where both sides have pretty much the same units but with different flavors.
Its one of the better SW games. What I really loved about it is how they actually managed to make everything make sense. Like the gameplay matches the universe and lore really well. Mon Mothma being the great leader makes everyone work efficiently (cheaper build). Rebels have a kiting strategy and have to micro. Empire ships are large hulks etc. Also the spacebattle/ground battle switch and heroes having unique ships and land units.
Another game you may want to try is fallout tactics, its a turn based (when set to turn based) strategy game that came out years ago and I have found it was veary worth it to play
Oh my god! Empire at War, really? HYPE!
sadly its not the stoty mode tho, sorry dude
99/10 From me
was also gonna recommend either thrawns revenge or the clone wars mod
And Rise of the Mandalorians.
Sal Dsas same I was gonna recommend thrawns revenge
i would say the remake mod, its the most cinematic, though do really like thrawns revenge too
Holy shit THERE ARE MODS?!
BRB, I'm dusting off my old Empire at War and Forces of Corruption CDs.
Thrawn's Revenge is now available on Steam as is AOTR. TR 2.2 is just released too. Enjoy!
Empire at War and Battle for Middle Earth were my gaming childhood
TheBomb571 I still have both but battle for middle earth won't work on my new computer....... 😢
Yeah it's a shame EA doesn't give a dam about their old games to support them.
I would love to get Battle for Middle Earth on steam like Empire at War
there is a mod/unofficial patch you can download so it runs properly and at a modern resolution. google battle for middle earth hd
BFME2 was the bomb
WOWOW This game was my childhood. So nice to see you guys playing this.
Joep van den Brink Doesn't have to be just your childhood, everyone can enjoy this game at any age.

Ben is the Boat King for sure, that was a good victory.
This and your XCOM 2 lets play are the main reasons why I'm watching your channel. I love this game, easily one of my top 3 games of all time.
I started by watching the og xcom series.
Ahhhhh. Empire At War. This game is my childhood. In fact I think this was my first game I ever played consistently during my childhood. It was this that put Star Wars into a large scale perspective for me.
Yes more please
your picture is inspiring me
Oh my God you absolute Units. I love this game. I love YOU. It's the perfect combination.
Omg i cant believe Lewis never played this, just wait until he sees the AT-ST's in the ground battles!
Came all the way from the main channel just to see this. Sooooo happy to see it!!
Please so much more of this! I really want to see Lewis go crazy as the Emperor.
THIS GAME! Watching this entire series! =D
the imperial horde. that's it. im hooked on this series. PLEASE CONTINUE!!!
Finally UA-camrs I love playing one of my all time favorite games, such a nostalgia hit! I played the hell out of this game growing up and having it be Lewis and Ben playing it is just all the more enjoyable~ :D
"This is the game that made me want to be boat king."
I wish that was on the Empire at War box
Honestly, I’m way to excited to watch this play through! Talk about a throw back.
Holy fuck, i love this game!
Watching this video I realize just how inept I was playing this game.
I immediately assumed the space battle was lost.
My favourite game on the entire planet. Over 1100 hours played. And now the yogs are playing. YES
Easiest way to start is create a defensive concave around a ship yard world where you minimize possible entrances to you controlled planets to 2 or 3 with the same number of fleets. Easier than defending scattered bases across the galaxy.
MY CHILDHOOD PLAYING MY CHILDHOOD? HYPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Im so fucking hyped for this series guys, Ive played so many hundreds of hours of this game and the expansion. After Birth of the Federation I was hoping you'd get around to the Star Wars version of it, I'm glad you did!
I like how one person is good and the other is clueless
Hell yeah :D this game is amazing, oh the nostalgia
My favourite strategy game ever, I love this way too much. This makes me disgustingly happy
Man I forgot how good this game is. The free play galaxy mode and space battles are so well done.
Star wars command and conquer! Say no more!
Just downloaded this last night, looking forward to giving it a try!
I miss my old empire at war gold edition. Had it on disc but lost it while moving. So many fun times crushing the rebellion :)
I love this game, please keep playing it. By far the best star wars strategy game out there. A few tips the icons on the right side of the map give you helpful overlays. Ben probably knows this already, but any way please keep playing this game and maybe later play with some of the cool mods.

Corvettes are the back bone of your SUPPORT fleet as they do off fighters and bombers while the bigger boys come to damage the enemy ships and to defend the Maurauder cruisers
Holy shit this game looks amazing. Also ben seems pretty good at this.
I never realized the engine destroying tactic, although Ben then forgot that once engines are required for cruisers to withdraw
Literally the best channel on UA-cam.
I played this game for years and I had no idea you could do that strategy with the fire arks that Ben used in the space battle :O
Ben.. plz... put on the god damn extra information.. that would be a lot better to look at and it will give Lewis a better understanding of the game as well as your viewers that have never played this awesome game before :)
The extra information is just a lot better to see everything at a glance. Once I turned it on I could not play the game without it anymore
You don´t really need it though it certainly makes things easier.
SteelRodent1456
It puts on a massive number utility blips underneath worlds.
Heroes will appear on top of stacks, incomes, space station levels, and structures available and already built will appear as info underneath the planet.
This game is starwars hearts of iron.
Alackofcaring ...Seriously? I need to play Hearts of Iron then. I might actually be good at it.
Its not actually star wars hearts of iron that guy probably just plays very few grand strategy games. HoI is a completely different game.
As much as I love the xcom vods
I really want more videos of lewis and ben playin weird strategy games from their childhood
Sorry lads, gonna be a while before I watch this series. You've just sent me on such a nostalgia kick that I dug my CDs for this game out of storage.
Use the 4 buttons along the right side of the minimap to turn on all the extra information like building level, credit income, etc.
Also, don't forget that you can select buildings or space stations during tactical battles to buy special upgrades which persist as long as you control the planet.
OMG I remember getting this game as a kid! YES!!!!
I smell my new favorite series
If you enjoy this game in vanilla, try it with the ICW: Thrawn's Revenge, Republic at War, & Rise of the Mandalorians mods.
I remember playing the stargate mode for this game... good times :')
Empire at War is one of my favorites! You guys should absolutely give the Thrawn's Revenge mod if this vanilla campaign goes well!
Literally one of the best games ever
You really need to try the mods Thrawns Revenge and Republic at War. both are amazing.
I have been waiting for this day for so long
This game is my entire childhood
OMFG YOGSCAST PLAYING MY OG GAME? HELLLL YEAHHHH
no fucking way this is amazing!
You're first timing on EAW HARD!! Are u nuts??! The only way this will end in a rebel victory is if Lewis and Ben have the actual FORCE to help them
Real excited for this. Wish they had played with the Zann Consortium though.
OMG!!! This is one of my favorite games!
Surely if Ben is “Sharkboy” that makes Lewis Lavagirl? 😂
I loved this game. I played another one just like it aswell. I cant remember it though
Lewis: They would NEVER go into an asteroid field in the movies...
Mining facilities bonus is a percentile one, meaning that building it on worlds with a low income is a horrific mistake as your mines wont pay for themselves in ten turns.
please make this a brilliant series of empire at war
Tips:
A ship without hyper drive can't retreat
If you kill a ship's shield generator they cannot regain shields
If you destroy the hangar bay no new ships can spawn
X-wings are both fighters and bombers (best one man ship in the game)

You guys should really have played on the expansion pack forces of corruption, great community campaigns out there too!
All I can think about while watching this is battletech.
Awesome to see this game here! Would love to see some multiplayer, even if it's only a skirmish. :]
Can’t wait for the rebellion artillary spam
Wow once again Ben is against Tom in a game with troops and controlling locations but in order to not take knowledge from the doomborn he has brought along Lewis. Sharky and palp have turned on each other
I love EAW but wheres my next episode of Battletech damnit???? Also the more I watch of you guys the more convinced I am that Ben is my spirit animal :P
HOLY SHIT THIS IS MY FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!
Isn't that lewis from the yogscast?
OMG, more, forever and ever!
The campaign for the Rebels is actually pretty good
Beginning of the episode: YAAAAAAS
I love Empire at War! It deserves this attention and a lot more! Disney should invest in a new EaW game.
Play Thrawns revenge mod
Man this reminds me of Sins of a Solar Empire
Finally i've been waiting for this
Ah yes, something for me to watch!
this looks great fun
Lotta love for this game
The mod community is awesome as well
Oh my, oh my, what have we here.

Wedge Antilles is also unrelated to Lesser Antilles and Greater Antilles.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Oh man i this game was my childhood
I love this game!!!
Love the game! Still play it.
this is great! :) loving it
The UrQuan will never be defeated!
You guys are playing one of my favorite games of all time! Is this real!? Why wasn't this recommended to me earlier!?
I loved this game for its space battles, the land battles were kind of trash though
I love this game!
SUCH a classic.
Versus please, even if Lewis loses
I’m almost 100% sure that Ben only joined Lewis for this channel because of the fact that Lewis has a poon by him at all times, in game and irl probably...and the shark is scared....especially without his palp...
"Campaigns on rts's don't do that"
Really? Cus like... Warcraft 3 man.
Starcraft, Starcraft 2, halo wars, halo wars 2, age of empires 3, age of mythology etc etc
Oh yeah also the supreme commander games
Of cause this is Lewis saying this, he has always certainly been one to ignore story and complain later when he does not understand whats going on
Sone Hely sc2 story sucks.
Oh man, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, pure gold. Ooh or Homeworld!
