    MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
    Video of icebox:
    Video of Gas Refrigerator:
    Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Ya know, I can relate so much to what you said. Growing up, I watched my dad work his self to death working 12 hour shifts just to put food on the table, clothes on my back, shoes on my feet, and food on the table. Mom worked herself just as hard and it didn't stop once she got home. She would cook, clean the house, make sure we had what we had all of the necessities we needed for the week. They argued a lot, mostly about work and not being able to have the quality of life they wanted because of how much they had to work. Never had much growing up. But really, it didn't bother me. We would take family trips camping every once in a while when they weren't both working. Everything was different when we were away. But, with any vacation/trip, it has to end. These trips became farther and farther apart and eventually non existent. Like yourself, I just didn't belong or fit in. I would sit and listen to the kids at school talking about toys and games and comic books, and all I could think about was how long it would take me to save for a .22 rifle or when I would get a new Cabela's or Field & Stream. The kids looked at me like I was crazy when the word Cabela's or Browning, Colt, Remington, or Winchester would leave my mouth. Luckily, dad was a lover of the outdoors and when he had the time, that's where we were. On the river fishing come spring, getting ready for squirrel season in September, and chasing deer from October through the first week of January. That was it for me. those months of being in the woods were it. It's the only place I didn't feel out of place. Having mom drop me and dad off before daylight and picking us up at dark. In the car on the way there joking with dad on whether or not he would let me have the honor of using his beauty of a 700 Remington that day instead of the rode hard Winchester 94. Sitting on the cold damp ground with and a Winchester 94 across my lap leaning up against a white oak tree freezing my behind off. This was it for me. It was there. Hearing the squirrels cutting and turkey gobbling as they flew down off their roost. Hunting that same old faithful oak tree. It was my home. Being there and listening to everything the woods had to say to me was it, seeing a deer was a bonus. Getting a shot on that big bruiser buck that you dream about it seems like every night a week or so before season. After I had hit my late teens, 15 or 16, it was a morning like any other. We started up the mountain hoping to get to the top before the sun came up. Still have that old 94 lever slung over my shoulder. We get to the top of the mountain were we normally part ways, and as I was walking away, dad said "Hang on, Come here." I turn around and dad is taking his 700 Remington off his shoulder. He says, "Give me that 'ol lever". I thought maybe he had noticed something wrong with it because it had old ladder style western tang sights in the rear and I thought it had fallen off and he had noticed it. He has me hold his 700, grabs the 94, throws it over his shoulder starts heading toward his spot without saying a word. I was excited, sad, nervous, paranoid, and every emotion you could imagine. Dad finally let me use his deer rifle. To me, that meant more to me than anything in the world. It's like he silently acknowledged that I was now a man and he deemed me a woodsman at that point by letting me use his Remington. And ya know what, that morning just after the sun had started to play peek a boo with the ridge top, a big big mature doe was coming up the left side of the ridge at a pretty good speed and about that time I see why she's moving so fast, a heavy and tall no brow tine 6 pointer was nose to the ground running her right toward me. Biggest buck I had ever seen, the rear tines were long and he was heavy horned for a public land national forest buck. I was already nervous and shaking from being excited about using dad's rifle. I knew if I could get him to stop, the old .300 Winchester Magnum will put him on the ground right there. Got ready and steady and as he started to get within vocal distance, I give him the classic "Baaa" and he stopped 70 or 80 yards down from me long enough for me to find him in the scope and the last thing I remember was the ear splitting crack of those hot .300 Mag handloads dad reloaded every deer season. I regained my composure, and there he was. On the forest floor laid the biggest buck I had ever seen, and shot at in my whole hunting life and on top of that, with my dad's rifle. I took him to the local taxidermist so that I would have him for the memories. He's over my right shoulder as I type this. To this day, I'm still chasing after that one day in the woods. I guess, in a way, I'm addicted to the outdoors. It fits. It's me. I don't think life can get any better than that day. Recently, I have decided to take up trapping. Next year will be my first year and bobcats and coyotes are the critters I'm going to chase after because of the deer and turkey numbers being really really down on this big stretch of public national forest land. I can't wait. I have a lot to learn, and now another adventure to prepare for. Boss, I really really really enjoyed this video and your "looking back" videos where you talk about the way it used to be. We are a lot a like in the way of wanting to be in the outdoors and feeling like this is where we are supposed to be. It's like a jigsaw puzzle. It's not that we didn't fit it, it's just that we didn't fit that puzzle piece. Being in the outdoors for me and you, and learning things while being in them, is our way of fitting the jigsaw puzzle together. Every time we're successful trapping or hunting, we finish a puzzle. With a new adventure, we have to start a new puzzle with new pieces. We know how to put the puzzle together, it's just making sure the pieces fit and stay together. Once the puzzle is together, it's in our memories. Our memories are the glue that holds the completed pieces together so that we will never forget them, and we'll have them forever. A new trapping/hunting season is a new puzzle, and sending the season catch to nafa or filling a deer tag is the final piece before the glue. The mountain men that helped mold and make this country what it was, were trappers. They spent their life trapping and skinning beaver, eating beaver tail, selling/trading the pelts, and met up in the evening for a rendezvous. Back then, that's what living was, and today that's what living still is. Again, I really appreciate you sharing your adventure with us. To some people, YOUR adventure may be the only thing that makes them feel like they fit in. You remind me a lot of me as a kid when you talk about the past. Thanks for bringing back that awesome memory for me. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us. Consider me and my dog Libby, a friend.

Your perspective on the winter woods is spot on. I love it because it's one of the few times that the world belongs to me and there are few people to intrude on the peace and quiet. Being there alone allows time to study and absorb things you couldn't do in a group. You'd fit in at my camp anytime. Great video as always.

I have the best of both worlds. I live on 65 acres of trees in central Ohio but work as a Contracting Officer for the Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB. I share my woodland paradise with friends and family and maintain campsites, hiking trails and hunting grounds for many to enjoy. I found your videos looking for ways to firm up mud holes and build corduroy roads and have thoroughly enjoyed your adventures. I'm retiring in 1 year after 39 years of federal service and will work the land full time just for fun. You've stepped into gold my friend and so many folks just don't get it, live simply, laugh a lot, enjoy family and friends and revel in the forest. I never saw anyone's life improved with Granite Countertops. A kindred spirit. Tom Smith

It blows my mind how people spends millions to "get away" to rustic retreats to recharge only to go back to the city and need another get away within a few days. I know what you're talking about but can't put into words, about being in the woods. The only words I can put to it are, peaceful, contentment, clarity of mind and serenity. I found that poem and printed it out. It's now on my fridge and boy does it ever hit home!

Boss, you mean so much to so many people, myself included. Your videos are wonderful, a pure delight, and a pleasure to watch. My friend, you’re a gift from above. It’s unfortunate that most people today can’t understand what life is really about. You figured it out at a young age and pursued your dreams. Thank you for sharing your life and being an inspiration. At 35, I now understand where I belong. I knew as a teen, but pushed aside those dreams. I can’t wait to tell you that I’ve moved to the woods. It will be a challenge, but a challenge and change I’m looking forward to. I’ve done well for myself in the city, but that time has passed. I belong in the woods with nature around me. Boss, God bless you and yours! My friend, stay safe and healthy! We need you more than ever!

My Dad was gone for a lot of my young years because he was a long-haul trucker. I'd be so excited when he'd come home on the weekends & we'd jump in his boat & go fishing. I'll always cherish those times (wish there had been more).
I once had a friend say, "Agh, you're dreaming" like it was a bad thing. I may have been dreaming, but some dreams become reality. It's winter and lately I've been dreaming of the White Mts. during the early summer when the streams are running fast & hard against the rocks, where the once windiest mountain may still have a bit of white on top... while I sit staring out the patio window on a cold winter day. Spring's coming & I'll be going toward the peaks that lift my heart & take my breath away & the next day toward the ocean where waves touch my soul before the tourists show up & drown out the rhythm of the ocean's tide. Without dreams, I think we'd loose hope, desire, & inspiration. I'll keep dreaming; it's the only thing this ol' gal has that makes winter bearable.
I'm thinkin' of ya & prayin' for ya in great expection that you'll soon be on the mend & sharing with us once again. Can't do a week w/o the Boss even when he needs a break, so I hope you get well soon. Until then, you'll be missed. Thanks for sharing this video even though it's years ago/little piece of your memories with a few pics (nice touch ; )

I was just outside having a smoke in our early autumn night thinkin about this video and how free the spirit is in a place like that. even though I live in a small city, I enjoy getting out to the lake. especially in mid winter when I can hike across the ice to the stream where I like to build a small fire and sip fresh brewed coffee while the sun comes up.
if you castrate the spirit, you'll never fully appreciate life in the great outback. you'll just be stuck being dependent on everyone and everything.
Never castrate the spirit, always keep an edge. cheers now

I know it's somewhat silly to say, but I feel like I know you personally. I first started watching the channel because of the trapping (although I've never been trapping) and the hunting and the fact that you actually build a cabin in the woods. Now I think I watch because I like you as a human being. You're someone I could be neighbors with or just hang-out with. Please don't ever stop the videos. And give my best to Frankie. - Chris

Thank you Chris. The relationship that is building between myself and my viewers is awesome. That's how I feel anyway and hope they do likewise. I don't know what part of the country you're in but maybe someday our paths will cross. I hope to do a lot of travelling in the future and film all over the place. Ya never know where I'll end up.
As always, I appreciate the comment.

That poem sums up my life. Robert Service had an insight of the truth. I was always taught that I had to work hard for someone else in order to make it through life. Well, I made quite a few people wealthy, while I ate some of the crumbs that fell from the table. And what's so sad is the fact that I earnestly believed that I was doing a good thing. It wasn't until I was in my early 50's that I learned the truth. I retired and noticed that everyone I had done things for, which made them wealthy, wouldn't give me the time of day, or give me a drop of water, if I were perishing. By then, it was too late for me, because as soon as I rebelled against the system, they came after me like a group of hungry beast, and took everything I had ever worked for. Lesson learned a little too late. Now I know that it's best to take the road less traveled, so I tell my grandchildren which way I should've went.

It's tough looking back sometimes. I try to live my life with my last thought in mind. What I mean is, the end result. If I'm on my death bed, reflecting on my life, I want to know I did all I could to fulfill my dreams and leave this earth a contented man. If I had listened to what I "should have done" well shit.... I'd be buried in school loans so my folks could brag about the accomplishments I made. I was the black sheep, the bad seed, long haired little punk that flunked everything but I grew up doing what I always dreamed about doing when I grew up. That might not make sense to most folks but I have a feeling you know where I'm coming from. Thanks for all your views and comments.

I love your outlook on life mate, it is spot on, we are taught from birth to conform to what society wants worker bees, when you live out side this you are seen as trouble or just out there for not wanting to consume thing we really do not need.

Boss, I'm that woman that doesn't fit in also. Boy, could I identify with that poem. So, glad you shared that!
I left a 20 yr. nursing career for an adventure of a lifetime. At 37 I went back to school for 3 weeks to learn how to drive a semi truck & I did it in the winter, February. Anyone can drive one in good weather. I did experience a steering skid about 3 yrs. later on I-39 in Illinois that winter, but was able to keep it under control & came out of it just fine. A few moments later a voice on the CB radio asked, "Hey, Transtar are your pants still dry?" I answered back saying yes. Then he said, "tell your husband he did a damn good job." I said thanks, but I'm driving, no husband or boyfriend in this rig, sir. Then he said, "Lady you did a damn good job, please accept my apology!"
I took all the knowledge from nursing & being an EMT stopping at accidents, doing CPR on another driver at a truckstop, & a RV'er who had a heart attack & who had stopped breathing at another truckstop. GOD always had me at the right place at the right time everytime!
Now I'm 71, looking back at the adventures that started after I took a leaf of faith, leaving the city behind and never regretting it. GOD has been good to me all along, yes I'm older, but aside I have nothing wrong with me, I don't take any medication. I live in 10 acres located 1.5 miles from town. It's just me & 2 Doberman's to keep me company. Life is good, but I do miss some human company, especially now after the husband died. I think it is easier for a guy to find a mate that the other way around, at least that's how I see it.
Enjoy your life Boss, we only go around once!

You know Sir, I never get tired of seeing your wonderful cabin in the woods. I can only imagine what it must be like to see the outline of the of the structure emerge through the trees as you trek in. Frankie shows the same excitement just by hearing the word "cabin". The story really hit home for me about getting away on the weekends with family and the outdoors. I grew up the same way. My Dad didn't work in the city, but had the same outlook on the simple things in life.
I thank you for the kind words for the Soldiers. It really makes a big difference for us that are down range. I can't speak for the rest of them, but my heart is certainly nestled around a cozy little building sitting off the beaten path. When everyone else is looking for "bigger, faster....more and more". I am searching for "slower, simpler, quieter".
Thanks again Boss and as always I really look forward to your outstanding productions.

I found your channel a couple of days ago. I don't know how to say how much I enjoy it. I grew up sort of like you living near the city everyone caught up in pursuit of things and running away from them every chance they got. I took a simpler path in life and all my siblings and friends from the early days have more things but the ones still around have bad health and are still caught up in getting more. They have never figured out that the simple things make life worth it. Nothing like living where peace and quiet are the closest neighbors.
