Daniel. Could you offer comment on personal pensions with new inheritance rules. As I understand, your pension value is now included in the inheritance calculation. As an example if you own a modest home say £350k, other assets of say £50k but have saved hard and have a pension pot of a modest 200k, the government will now take 40% of this pension On death. If your beneficiaries who are still working, they will then get taxed on income from that pension at their personal rate. If a 40% tax payer then in essence the government will be taking some 60-65% in tax. Some clarity on this would be of a great help.
Welsh government has done an excellent job of decimating the tourist industry here in Wales, Article 4 was the last straw for many holiday lettings and many investors are just throwing in the beach towel.

Reeves could let tourists stay at her unused home and help to fill the black hole , then pay tax for using her home as a hotel , and her rates would also increase to county hall !
Already seen this with just the national insurance hike. We go to a particular place to celebrate our wedding anniversary and have been goi g for a number of years. This year the price has gone up by £160 for the usual 4 night stay at our usual time, pushing this out of our budget. Tourism still hasn’t recovered fully from the pandemic, so the NI hike, plus this, could well be a tipping point.
Tourism where I stay in Scotland was killed off in 1995 when local government stopped the yearly outdoor music festival and the Strivangah Yacht race that always happened about a week after the music festival local businesses slowly started losing trade and then 2 by 3 they gradually all became closed down boarded up shops except for the Chinese takeaway /newspaper shop/ and a few hairdressers in the area and 2 remaining bars. About 15/20 years later, they built an aquarium but the hotels had been shut down so there was no.where for tourists to stay
Hotel tax. In Scotland they are planning a % tax on tourist stays. Not adding a set amount but a % amount. So you can add 20% to every stay in Scotland. To be collected by the accommodation provider (free tax collection too). It applies even to Scots staying in their own country. This is a bad idea. Not just foreigners - it’s also us!
Per Person! Not per room, not per camp site, not per room cost, not per night, means each person is nothing but tax object needing temporary shelter. Images of the days of fiefdoms, vassals, serfs paying a head tax, subjects come to mind with the government being the master.
The way tax works in hospitality businesses is from start to finish poorly thought out. VAT is a tax that is only good for raising revenue for the government as there are very few deductions available for the business, minimum wage increases affect hospitality more than other industries, the lowering of NI threshold affects businesses employing part time workers more again disproportionately hospitality increasing NI contribution percentage another blow for employers now holiday tax. I'm surprised they are not letting on that the Government is already bankrupt. (not to be confused with the Bank of England, which is a private corporation)

So we now have pensioners, workers, school children, farmers, disabled people and now we get holiday makers. Can someone not tell her you can't tax the country into a boom!
Forget tourism for a second.Im a freelance contractor.I often spend 4 or 5 nights a week away from home. What do you think I’m going to do with that cost? How many do you think there are like me?The industry isn’t just hotels these days, how do you fairly implement this.Expect a lot of cash transactions, expect a lot of ‘evening meals’ and ‘breakfasts’ ‘room service’’rooms sold with ‘single person supplement’and all sorts of things.Watch length of bookings drop to one day online but somehow you can’t get a room online at the same place for the rest of the week 💸.
I sometimes wonder what cosseted world these people come from that they can’t see how people will get round this anyway
I'd suggest a tent but they'll tax that next
@ so quite a lot of the very large building sites rent out on site pods. Are they meant to be taxed? Something that will be rightly claimed as subsistence anyway.
@@laceandwhisky campsites are going to be taxed in this scheme.
Omg, labours want their working class supporters sleep in their own vehicles
@laceandwhisky already being taxed in Wales soon.
Cutting spending is the only solution to a spending problem.
No, you see we must continue funnelling endless billions to Ukraine, foreign 'aid', sacrifices for the climate gods etc.
There won't be any tourist as all the hotels will be full by the time summer comes.
If as a uk resident and holiday in uk. With tax added. Then you would surely look at going
abroad for less cost.
They have that covered, new holiday tax.

@@JP-ss3nd aaaaahhh yes I get your pun now 🤣. That was an interesting fact I didn't know 👍
I live on the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire border in s.w wales. It must be around 80% of the businesses here are either in or linked to both farming and tourism. This could be the final nail in the coffin for this area.
Ed Miliband doesn't want u to go on holiday . Not good for the environment.
2 faced all of them. The amount of flying around they do. Same old same old. Dont do what I do, do as I say.
She is absolutely clueless - why dont she just resign - her failures will ruin the country 😡
Welsh government has done an excellent job of decimating the tourist industry here in Wales, Article 4 was the last straw for many holiday lettings and many investors are just throwing in the beach towel.
The hospitality industry has already taken a huge hit from the ER NI increase - I work in procurement and know this for a fact. This is literally going to close down hotels.
To make room for the new 'arrivals', joining the dots yet?
" they don't have an endless pot of money to spend." Yes, Liebour do have an endless pot of money to spend, only trouble is it's our money they are wasting. 😤
Thirdly they will cut back on staff/hiring, Therefore lowering the income tax and national insurance they would have received. This "Government" Is a total shower of $#!T and we are only half a year or so in🤬🤬
To me, that suggests more Cash in Hand work which will reduce Income Tax.
Screwing over the tourist industry in the “attempt” (because it won’t raise this much) to pay for *ONE* day of NHS spending! 😤
That’s it Labour, now wreck the tourist industry.
It will soon be cheaper to fly to Florida than stay in Cleethorpes.
Rather, go to Florida than that dump, lol
I heard 10,000 millionaires have already departed the UK. And who could blame them.
I cannot afford to go on holiday because I am trying to raise the money that we need to help my grandad, but I have friends who have cancelled their holidays for this year because of the taxes they are paying.
One is even looking at closing his company and moving out of the UK because of it.
Well we've been giving millions to hotels in the UK for years now!
Only for illegals who have not paid a penny in.
I’ve also heard on Grey Matters today she’s going to stop free prescriptions for over 60s from April. Pure Evil if you ask me.
This will only apply to England because prescriptions are free in Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland. Perhaps making everyone pay would be a better place to start.
If only we could have foreseen Labour taxing everyone into oblivion and being incompetent at running the economy.
I knew they would they always do
They have always been the same. Labour is a party of Taxation.
They said no increase in tax they Lied.
They said so much but Lied again and again.
I hope those who voted for Labour are ashamed of themselves.
Some of us knew
70yr old here I knew!!!😂
John Major introduced 24 new taxes in the early 90s.
It's already being introduced in Wales! They call it a Tourist Tax! Great idea to boost Tourism!
Yep, won't be staying in Wales ever again!
The government should get rid of all these setup, useless groups and get rid of currpt civil service who, for years, have done badly in their job
Unfortunately it is the previous governments over the last few decades that have given them the power. We are now governed by the unelected and unaccountable.
A tax on hotels has very little effect on the rich, it's another nail in the coffin of tourism for the majority.
The incompetence of this "leadership" just gets even worse!
How can you call it 'incompetence' when they are getting RICHER whilst we are getting POORER?
@zantas-handle That's a fair comment!
@@pete2070 Cheers. Sadly, it looks to me like they know exactly what they're doing - SCREWING us!

Also, lisa nandy has proposed scrapping tv licence and adding it to taxation so no person can choose to opt out 😡😡😡
Thats coming definitely
If she gives me a TV I will sell it.
A bit unfair on people who don't have a tv.
yet all the mps are getting bonuses?
is this another grab for "bonus funds"?
Yes it is and it's so they can up their bonuses and backhanders
FFS we already pay VAT on hotels and a tourism tax in some places like Manchester. 🙄 How many more?
There will be many many more taxes as the economy crashes and the tax take slides. She’ll keep upping taxes because she won’t have enough tax take. She so dumb that she dosnt realise people don’t have spare cash anymore. We are doomed with this lot. They are economic morons.
I don't understand why labour MPs are not pushing for a "vote of no confidence" of Starmer etc. What are they all scared of?
Another election I’d imagine.
The labour party should pay taxes on their second home, fine the party's for not turning up to parliament when a there are debates going on
In Scotland this will mean a double tourist tax- one from the local authority, one from central government
Or just no tourists.
How can anyone call this 'incompetence' when they are getting steadily RICHER and MORE POWERFUL whilst we are getting POORER and MORE CONTROLLED?
Labour promised economic growth, but looks to me like all they are doing is killing growth everywhere
That's what Labour always do 😁😎
They are doing the exact opposite to what they say to get in. Lies lies and more lies.
When have Labour ever grown the economy?
@@colingathercole391 There is a massive irony here in that Daniel is talking about a 100% unsubstantiated rumour. Like the "they're going to nick your pension lump-sum" rumour. There's no corroborated evidence for it - it just gets views on his channel. The Express and Mail do exactly the same things.
@@maccagrabme Never because they have no idea how to.
Maybe they should up the taxes on the company that is making millions of pounds on illegal migrant hotels and accommodation
It`s like pubs. They had to put the price of beer up due to less smokers coming in after Blair. So then less people came in and they had to put the price up again. Then no one came in and it closed like 50% of pubs in my area back then.
True - the dominoes are falling a dozen at a time now.
As usual, if this happened, the costs would just be passed down onto us. Increase taxes of businesses and they pass down the costs to the consumer. When Labour say this isn't a direct tax of us, they're right, but we pay for it one way or another.
Well I have just watched a little short on FaceBook from Jethro. He said there was a time we were an Empire ruled over by an Emperor, then we were a Kingdom ruled over by a King, now we are a country!
..at least it clears out the hotels to put, shall we say our other irregular guests? 🤔💭
I turned down two jobs in Australia mid 2023. I was concerned about leaving my home etc. seriously reconsidering that decision
Whatever is taxed, there will be less of it.
Bro, government needs to stop spending. They need to get to lidl to stock the commons bar up.

@@Raj-ul9my but they spend on the wrong things

Absolutely disgusting and shocking. They have too go now this disgusting vile labour dictatorship.
I would think any foreign tourist visiting the UK for the first time would feel as though they've been ripped off and not just because of this tax
What about London city tax of £10 a day .
Also shopping tax , fat tax etc:
This Labour is tax mad thinking taxation promotes growth.
Public Toilet Tax, Walking in public tax - you can go on and on lol
Presumably they will structure it so you pay VAT on that tax.
Gary @ Gary's economics spoke about this. You're spot on to say it will be used on interest payments on government borrowing
With more people thinking of leaving the country I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the introduction of a Canadian style Departure tax ?
Per Person! Not per room, not per camp site, not per room cost, not per night, means each person is nothing but tax object needing temporary shelter. Images of the days of fiefdoms, vassals, serfs paying a head tax, subjects come to mind with the government being the master.
LOCKDOWN by stealth:
Raise fuel prices = 'Essential Journeys Only'.
Raise fuel prices + Tax Hotel Accommodation = STAY HOME.
What would be the benefit of that? Proper tinfoil-hat nonsense.
Did they ever consider spending less money ?
That has never been and never will be a Labour policy.
Another 4 years of this stupidity,be nothing left.
It's not stupidity, it's evil and corrupt.
Are there any hotels left, not housing illegal migrants? Are they going to be taxed?
Yep and you will be paying for it, via your tax. Deport DEPORT
We have already ruled out Wales because of a similar tax. Looks like we will add that to the rest of the UK. Abroad is where my money goes then.
Labour are absolutely set on ruining this country
Normal fare for Labour... they are always an economic train wreck.
This time around could be much worse as the UK is already in a v badly position.
I'm surprised they are not letting on that the Government is already bankrupt. (not to be confused with the Bank of England, which is a private corporation)
And, she said....no more tax
🤦😱🤦😱🤦😱
I wonder how long it will be before society is forced to pay breathing tax. People will only take so much. My personal view is that from a legislative perspective. There should be a statute that protects citizen's from over burdening Governments. That is to say, if a majority decision is reached through public ballot, then the Government must stand down and force a re-election.
On another point... should our farmers take to striking like other officiate bodies do in this country?
Thatcher tried that before it's called the poll tax
@@vinniechan some may say that's a good thing (thank fully it failed) but let me ask you this... compare our UK standards to that of say EU countries where there model on taxation (albeit higher) actually provide a better overall strategy in terms of long term healthcare, housing etc. I'm simply being devils' advocate.
