  • Tired of litter dust? Sick of hauling heavy litter scoopings? Spending $$$ on clumping litter? Maybe try the Breeze system.
    I've used the standard Breeze litter system for over a year now, but the new XL version just came out and I'm excited to try it since I have one big, picky cat that has trouble with normal size litter boxes.
    I couldn't find any ratings or reviews online for the new XL system so I'm doing my own since Tidy Cats has a money back satisfaction guarantee. I've never done this before so I hope it's not too awkward. Anyway, hope this video will be helpful to you. ;-)
    (No, this video isn't sponsored and I'm not affiliated with Tidy Cats in anyway... I'm just really happy to have found a litter system that's low maintenance and cheaper for me than the traditional method.)

    Thank you for your video, I know it's been quite a while but as a fellow concerned cat parent, I try to do my research on any product that could make my (and my cat's) life easier. There are still not many videos about this litter box out there, but yours is all I needed! Thank you, for seeing a void and filling it with great content. ❤

      Lol! Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful to you. It feels so awkward watching it playback, but I'm really unused to recording myself so I guess that's par for course. 😸 The kitties, on the other hand, are very used to the camera and always happy to help 'mom' out. 😁

    I had to laugh when you protected your cat's privacy. Nice video -- especially good for a first-timer. I just ordered an XL to put next to my original just as you have done. I lost my scoop; you gave good advice there. Actually, I didn't lose it! My feline helpers carted it off somewhere -- I'll probably find it under a bed along with twenty-five toy mice and rollers. Cats are so funny! Thanks again for the good vid.

    I have two cats and I have been using the XL Breeze system for a month now. The cats like it, no more tracking litter and NO DUST!! I use the Amazon pee pads and they work just fine. One of the cats is a litter flinger and the high sides let her scratch in peace and not throw litter all over the place like she did with clay litter. I am sold on Breeze.

    Thanks for the video! I’ve had two of the smaller ones since I got my kitties 3 1/2 years ago. I love them! But one of my kitties is a ragdoll and a bit big for the box. Thank you! I hope it works out well for you and your kitties. The one piece of advice I really recommend is getting a plastic kennel pan or other waterproof service big enough to set the whole unit on just in case the pad tray overflows before you regularly change it out. As an owner of some biiig kitties who drink a lot of water sometimes the pad can get really oversaturated before I change it out on the weekends. I try to check it every day, but sometimes I just get busy and forget. If the tray overflows it can spill out onto the floor since the base is open under where the tray fit slides in. Just a heads up for you.

    I took the top off my small system so her head didn't keep her from going into the box all the way. Her head would touch the hood and her butt would hang over the edge and pee everywhere. So far with the top removed only one accident in a month. I still may upgrade to the xl. This video is very helpful.

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  3 роки тому

      Yeah, none of my kitties like hooded systems; they're always too small for them. But the walls on the XL are great since sometimes the boys don't squat all the way and the walls keep their pee from shooting over the side onto the floor. Not as much of an issue with girl-kitties, but the walls also help with keeping the litter inside as well when they're digging in it. Glad it was helpful! Thanks!

    Great job on your debut review! I’m using the hooded breeze with pine pellets. It doesn’t sift as well as I’d like and had to make a front shield to keep pee off the floor.

      Thank you! I place the whole unit on a laminated foam core board just in case there is a little accident (hasn't happened yet tho). Have you ever tried top-entry litter boxes? I was thinking that it'd be easy to use some 1/4" wood to build a bottomless box over the XL system and cut a top entry point if necessary to prevent any 'misses'.
      Good luck to you!

      @@TheArtymuse Thanks. I considered the top entries but I was most attracted to the slide back hood on the Breeze because you don't have to remove it for cleaning. • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  2 роки тому +1

      Cool. You're welcome! If you use the Breeze for kittens I highly recommend starting out with paper or pine pellet litter in case they accidently swallow any. Kittens especially like to play with the pellets and tend to be mouthy until they grow up some. Also, the entrance might be a little high for the kittens depending on how big they are so you might want to put something down in front of it for them to use as a step up or ramp.
      Cats can also get territorial over litter boxes so I suggest having at least one box per cat to avoid accidents. I used to have two boxes for 4 cats and one of them started peeing on my bed (-_-) until I got two more boxes so everyone had their own. But sometimes you luck out and they share with no issues. Best of luck to you and your fur-babies!

      Thank you. And that is great to hear! I'm currently fostering a couple kittens but it's been hard to find adopters lately. I always recommend people adopt two cats instead of one if they don't already have one at home. Unless it's an older cat that just prefers being on its own. One cat, or especially kitten, on its own is more likely to get bored and destructive. The Kitten Lady here on UA-cam just recently made a really good video about it. @@mrreddington777 Good question. I would ask their foster what litter they're already used to. If it's a pellet type I think they'll adjust quickly to the Breeze. If it's clay or crystal litter you'll probably need to set up a standard litter box with some of that next to the Breeze just so you don't risk accidents. Once you notice them trying out the Breeze system stop cleaning out the standard box. They should migrate to the cleaner Breeze system. Once you feel confident they're using the Breeze okay just remove the standard litter box completely.

      Awesome! I hope it works out well for you and kitty! Many people have also recommended using pine pellet litter with the Breeze. Cheaper with great odor control, but a little more clean up since the pellets break down into saw dust which will get on the floor when kitty exits the box. You could also just use pine pellets in the tray instead of pee pads; absorbs a lot, controls odor, and very environmentally friendly. Best of luck!

    Great demo video from Toby & his mom!! Cute quick cameo from Sonia too! 👍🐱 Can I use regular clumping cat litter? I would like this for my big large kitty. Thanks!!

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  3 роки тому

      HI! Unfortunately clumping litter will not work with this system since it is designed to function by letting the urine drain through the inner pan to be absorbed by the pee pad below. Pellet litter is used because smaller litters will just fall through the drainage area and clumping litter would clog up the grate. It's best to get your cat used to a pellet litter, like recycled paper or pine, by mixing it into their current litter more and more. Once they're going on mostly pellets, set up the Breeze system next to their old box and stop cleaning their old litter box. Kitty should naturally migrate to using the new, cleaner Breeze system. I guess you could use clumping litter in the pee pad tray instead of the pad, but that can be a litter messier to clean up when it comes time to change it out. Hope that helps!

    Great video! I have been using the regular size breeze systems for years and love them! Just wondering what happens when they pee on the side that doesn't have the holes. Seems like the urine would just sit on the green part and not drain to the pad. Would love to hear what you have experienced. thank you!

      Hi Cindy! The inner green pan is sloped down toward the grate part so it does drain properly onto the pad below. It does get a little dirty after a while, but I just use a Lysol wipe to clean up the inner pan every time I change out the pee pad. I just shift all the pellets to one side then the other to wipe the exposed surface.

    I just put my big one together that I had been sitting on for a couple of weeks while we get our bathrooms renovated. My cat was due for a larger size, however, I don’t like that the outer wall doesn’t have a lock system to the tray like the original. I’ll have to wait and see if it gets knocked off. Crossing fingers!

      I worried a little about that too at first, but my cats have been using it for years now and they've never knocked the wall piece off, even when vaulting over it out of the box. The lip of the wall is pretty deep and sits snugly on the litter tray edge. But only time will tell. Good luck!

    My wife and I had 28 cats after hurricane Michael came through Florida in 2018. People in the apartment complex behind our home left the area but also left their cats behind. I know this because many had chips and the address was a unit in the complex. Anyway, back to the point of this. We tried Breeze after three months of regular litter. We had half Breeze and half litter. Almost all of the cats used the regular litter. Switched to all Breeze and some were going outside the box. We also found that if a cat has loose stools or diarrhea you had to remove far more of the breeze to clean out the mess. You also go through a lot of pee pads. After trying this for a month the cost of using Tidy Cats Breeze was considerably more than Purina Clumping litter.

      Thank you for looking out for all those kitties! I hate it when people abandon their pets.
      There are definitely less expensive litter options out there and I have found that the Breeze works best when there's only one or two cats per box. I have three boxes for four cats myself. There are many cats who just don't like the big pellet litter, usually because they have sensitive paws and prefer softer, finer litter. I'm lucky that all of mine adapted pretty fast since I hate the litter tracking of finer litter. I hope you were able to take the Breeze boxes back for a refund. My super cheap fall back set up is those big, black mortar mix tubs from the hardware store with pine or Crystal litter. Have you tried the sifting type litter boxes with clumping litter before? I've heard those are quick to clean, but haven't given them a try yet.

    I use Members Mark 23” by 24” pee pads from Amazon. 120 in a box. Much larger and cheaper. They’re also sold by Sams Club. Plus I found a plastic litter box container that fits perfectly under my breeze. It’s about 6 inches deep. I took the little tray out. I use pine pellets and don’t change the pad until the sawdust is about 5 or 6 inches high.

      I've found some large shallow trays at the hardware store for cheap that work well as substitute under trays too. Probably my biggest gripe about the Breeze system is how low the sides of the pad tray are. But it's nice that the base is open under it so we can adjust the setup a bit.

      I hear you there. I almost got rid of my small one, but it came in very handy when I started fostering kittens. Letting them get used to traditional litter boxes along side the Breeze system really helps them be able to adapt to whatever setup their new home is going to have. I used the feline pine pellets for a while, but got tired of having to clear the pan grate when they inevitably broke down with use. I've since gone back to using the Breeze pellets, but I keep a bag of feline pine to use in the bottom tray instead of the pee pads to save money instead.
      I hope it works out great for you. If you have any trouble or questions, feel free to reply here. I've had many very helpful and insightful tips from other comments over the years. Good luck!

      @@dystoniaify I'm constantly looking for cheaper ways to own and care for my kitties. 😸 If you put the pine pellets in the tray, start with a very thin layer so you can still see the bottom of the tray through the pellets. They swell up a lot when liquid hits them and I made the mistake of putting in too many at first and it made a big mess when I went to pull the tray out. 😬 One other thing you can try is using those trash bag style litter box liners in the gray base, under the lime green litter pan. Then put the pellets on the liner to soak up and neutralize the pee. Then when you need to clean it out you can just remove the top pieces, cinch up the liner bag, and toss it out with the trash. Then you won't even need to rinse out or deodorize the base or tray.

I am indecisive if i should get a regular or an XL because my cat in the past had issues with small litter boxes but then again she’s just a year old and i don’t know if she’ll get used to that litter. Im curious if she would adapt to that litter since she’s a bit young and how big the regular one is compared to a regular litter box

      Hi Kezi! My kitties were used to fine clay litter and I helped them adapt by slowly adding pine or paper pellets to their old clumping litter. It helped them get used to the texture. Any time I scooped I would just add more pellets to the box until it was 100% pellets they were using. They I just set up the Breeze system next to their old litter box and stopped cleaning the old box. They naturally migrated over to using the cleaner box. The Breeze system has a satisfaction guarantee so if your kitty just refuses to use it you can get your money back. If you have the room for it, I prefer the bigger XL, mostly for the extra high walls since my kitties can fling the pellets out of the regular box real easy when digging around. You could try the hooded regular size box, but if your kitty is over 12lbs they might not like it. Best of luck!

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Caralee! The light blue tray under my original Breeze box is just the liner tray from a small wire kennel I bought at PetSmart from when I fostered kittens. You should be able to order just the tray separately online, if you'd like, but a simple rubbermaid storage bin lid flipped upside down will also work.
      I've only had two instances where my big orange kitty, Rocket, didn't enter the box deep enough and peed over the edge at the entrance (he's a lazy boy and doesn't squat far enough). I've taken to laying a large, basic puppy pee pad on the floor in front of the box and tuck the edge under the box to keep it in place just in case he does it again. It doesn't happen often so the pad on the floor lasts for months.
      If it's a reoccurring concern for you then have you tried top-entry litter boxes? PetSmart carries a number of them and I just saw this new one there the other day: www.petsmart.com/cat/litter-and-waste-disposal/litter-boxes/-moderna-amerix-top-entry-litter-box-61022.html
      Many people also make their own top entry boxes from large plastic storage bins by cutting a hole in the lid (making sure the edges aren't sharp). If you go that route, I recommend using inexpensive pine pellet cat litter; great odor control and easy on the environment.
      Hope this helps!

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  4 роки тому +2

      Hello! I would say it depends on if you've ever had an issue with him "missing" the box and his #1 or #2 going over the edge onto the floor. Both systems work exactly the same way, but the XL's taller walls and extra maneuvering space really help big kitties with "aim" issues. My 10, 12, and 16 lb-ers never really had an issue using the standard size box. It was just my rotund 20 lb Garfield who needed more space. I believe Tidy Cats has a 30 day money back guarantee on both systems and pet stores usually have good return policies. My local PetSmart offers to refund used litter box systems within 30 days if they aren't working out for you. Either way you go I think you'll love the no dust, super low tracking pellets and decreased waste scooping. Best of luck to you!

      The entryway's approximate width is 8 inches and the top is completely open. You could leave the white top wall part off until she no longer needs the e-collar if you don't think she'll do her "business" over the sides. Optionally, I recommend getting one of those big deep mortar mix tubs from Home Depot or Lowe's to use as a litter box with pine or paper pellet litter. They're a lot less expensive than actual litter boxes that size and a thicker, more durable plastic.

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  3 роки тому

      Hi Missy Riley! I had three cats at the making of this video, but I currently also have 4 kitties. I try to have one litter box per cat to avoid accidents in case someone feels territorial, but they usually share and swap boxes often. I check the pee pad trays once a week and change them out when they look like they can't absorb anymore or just smell a lot; usually every 10-20 days depending on how heavily they've used that box. You can save money on the pee pads by just filling the tray up with some cheap, absorbent litter that has good odor control, like pine pellet litter. I've also heard of people using the box without the tray and just placing the whole unit in a walk-in shower or spare tub over the drain. My cats' poop is pretty firm thanks to their diet so it doesn't stick to a lot of the pellets. That means I don't throw a lot of them away while scooping and the remaining ones stay pretty clean. I usually replace or clean them once they start to smell noticeably of ammonia; about every 2-4 months, again depending on box usage. Cleaning them is a chore and it really only works well once, so I just opt to replace them. They're made of natural zeolite mordenite so I don't feel too bad throwing them away (It's still a lot less waste than regular cat litter). The XL comes with 2 bags of the Breeze pellets, but my cats like a bit of depth so I add another half bag and sprinkle in the rest over time as I scoop and toss some while cleaning it.
      Sorry for the long-winded answer. Hope it helps!

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  4 роки тому

      You could probably sub one XL system for two regular to small size boxes if your cats get along really well. Sometimes cats can get territorial over sharing boxes. If you prefer hooded systems the Breeze does have a hooded version in the standard size. Another commenter recommended opening the box before purchase to get the coupon book out so you can use it right then and save a bit on the system up front. If your cats aren't used to chunky pellet litter they may not like using it right away. I helped my cats adapt by slowly mixing in more and more pine litter pellets to their old litter until it was all pellet. Once they were used to that I just set up the Breeze box next to their old box and stopped cleaning the old one. They naturally migrated to the cleaner Breeze box and I was able to remove their old one completely after about a week. The Breeze does have a satisfaction guarantee so if your kitties just don't like it (or you don't) then you can return it for your money back. Hope that helps. Best of luck!

    How is the smell with the pellets? I have heard several people complaining that the pellets create more of a smell. Thank you.

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  4 роки тому +2

      The urine smell is mostly neutralized by the pee pads since their specially formulated to do so. If you use plain pee pads there might be more odor. As for solid waste, I notice the smell when they actively poop, but it fades as the pellets facilitate dehydration; it's the moisture that causes odor. I scoop everyday, sometimes multiple times a day if I'm home a lot. I do notice that older pellets start to hold the pee smell after a long while, but I don't replace them monthly like the bag recommends. The smell isn't too bad to me, but others, like my mom, may be more sensitive to it. So I started using a non-toxic litter box deodorising spray (Skout's Honor). It's made a big difference! I spray down the pellets after scooping, but you can also mist it into the air above the box in the interim. Hope this helps!

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  4 роки тому +1

      Also, I think the quality of your cats' poop plays a part. My kitties are on a diet that keeps their stool pretty firm so the pellets stay cleaner longer and those that stick to it get thrown away. It also helps to wipe down the inner green pan once a week or so since that's what the urine drains through. I just keep a tube of Clorox wipes near the box for that purpose.

    • @TheArtymuse
      @TheArtymuse  4 роки тому +3

      For three cats using it I change the pad out every 5-8 days, depending on if the pad looks over saturated. I just peek in the tray whenever I go to scoop. Odor is not bad for me, but that depends heavily on your cats diet. The solid waste will smell initially until it starts to dry out or you scoop it away. The pee pads are formulated with something that neutralizes the ammonia smell for as much urine as they can absorb. They are neater to change out of you do so before they get really soggy. I've waited too long to change them in the past and the tray just fills up and that's when you can start to actually smell the ammonia. I'm going to do a deep clean video update soon which will show a fully used pad. The pellets never "wear out" and it is entirely up to you when to change them out depending on how dirty they look. The more solid your kitties' poop is the cleaner the pellets will stay. Since some get thrown away with each scooping I just keep a spare bag on hand to top up the tray when it's looking low. Hope this helps!

      @TheArtymuse  4 місяці тому

      I think it depends on a few factors. Some cats can be allergic to the dust from traditional clay or other clumping litter, so pellet litter is usually a good alternative. However, some cats are very particular about texture or have sensitive paws and refuse to use pellet litter. So they might start going potty in other places instead of the litter box. I switched my cats to the Breeze pellet system because I hated how much the clumping litter tracked all over the house and how much I was spending on litter. With the litter tray draining out the urine, I only need to scoop out the poop, so I'm not throwing away tons of litter every time.
      If you're considering the switch, I recommend setting up two litter boxes side by side; one with traditional litter and the other with pellets. Then you can see if your cats are cool with using the pellets. You could also try mixing the pellets into the traditional litter, and as you throw away regular scoopings, only add pellets back in until it's mostly pellets left. That helps your cat adapt to the change. Hope that helps!

The thicker the pellet layer is the better in that case. So definitely a little more work than if it had been done in traditional clumping litter. You're correct; the slots in the litter pan are kind of centered and off to one side. That's to direct the urine into the side of the bottom section with the pee pad tray. The litter tray's solid areas are sloped so that everything properly drains through the holes. I usually push the pellets aside and wipe down the solid areas inside the litter pan every other week just to keep it a bit cleaner and smelling better.

      Hi! So far no one has "missed" while doing their business in the bigger box. I was also afraid someone would manage to accidently aim at the open entry point in the wall piece, but I've lucked out so far. If that did happen I was just going to stick down a puppy pee pad on the floor at the entrance. My other solution was going to be to convert it into a top entry box by building a thin wood panel shell to go over the whole box. If your kitty is normal sized and you don't mind sticking with regular clumping litter, try a standard top entry litter box. That might solve your issue as well. Remember, the Breeze systems come with a 30 day money back guarantee so if you want to give it a shot you've got nothing to lose. Good luck!

      I looked around online at what's available and I tend to favor the designs like the CleverCat top entry or IRIS top entry boxes where there are no seams along the sides or bottom. That way, if your kitty happens to not squat and pees right on the wall it won't leak. Nice thing about that design is you can DIY one with a tall plastic storage container: just cut a hole in the lid (sand down any sharp edges) and line the top of the lid with some anti-track litter mat material; AstroTurf works pretty well. I'm using pine pellet litter in two of my boxes currently since the store has been out of the Breeze pellets. I've also found that I prefer filling the lower pee pad tray up with some pine pellets instead of buying the plastic backed pee pads. The pine pellet litter is really good at odor control and very absorbent. You could also try the recycled paper pellets as well.

      I suppose it depends on a few factors. If you prefer flushable litter than you probably wouldn't like the zeolite mineral pellets since they don't break down in water and could cause plumbing issues. Also, if your kitty has loose stool or diarrhea it can cause a mess and you'd probably have to replace all the pellets. Some people have mentioned that their cats will play with it even eat the pellets too. Most people resolve this by using a recycled paper or pine pellet in the Breeze system instead. The nice thing about it is the 30 day money back guarantee so if you just don't like it you can return it. Hope this helps!

      Short of having a two foot tall Maine Coone or Savanah cat, the walls of the XL system should be tall enough for domestic cat breeds. 😉
      Cleanliness will also depend heavily on the consistency of your kitties' poop. Soft "tootsie rolls" and firmer are perfect. But if kitty has diarrhea, it can be annoying to clean out the pan. That would be my only complaint about the system, but I think all the benefits outweigh the possible negatives. Let me know if you have any other questions. The XL has the lowest step in, but you can use pellet litter with any litter box so there might be another that would work better for you and be less expensive. A lot of people have had luck with low Rubbermaid and other brands of storage containers. You could even line the bottom with a puppy pee pad and swap them out when needed by tilting the whole thing and letting the pellets fall to the side. I also like cement/mortar mix tubs from the hardware store. They're durable, inexpensive and easy to clean because of their curved sides. You could also make a little wedge ramp to help them get in if it's a bit too high.

      TheArtymuse My old little girl has been on pine pellets with a pad under - in a walk-in dog litter pan - since she was teeny. I dispose of all by lifting the corners of the pad. But the new XL breeze box is as big as her box. I so think having a pan under the big one IF I could know of one that would fit - would be wonderful.
      As it is, her pan’s sides are low, and sometimes doing #2 her butt end hangs over the side. That would happen with that turf system, too. The high sides, open door, large size and grates make me want to try the XL with a pan. It would be great for her feet to only touch clean, dry litter.
      I’ve found some pans at an online kitchen supply store, when I googles the pan size, but not sure if they’d work. I’d take the top to a local kitchen supply store if I weren’t high risk for the virus. I stay inside. Meanwhile, I’m hoping those with lots or big cats, who use pine, will want to adapt this XL size pan, too!

There are three boxes (for TWO cats!), and they get cleaned once or twice a day. She’s not peeing outside the box and we’ve seen that she still poops in it some of the time. No rhyme or reason. My mom suggested that maybe the box feels too small. Yeah she’s chunky (12 pounds) but that’s nothing new. The pooping is recent. I’m torn. I’m not keen on the idea of forking over cash for yet another box if she’s not going to stop. 😾 Spoiled cat!

      Hey @starkman78 I had the same problem with my big 20lb boy a while back. I tried changing the litter and getting rid of the litter box hood I was using at the time, but he would still occasionally poop just outside the box. Soon as I changed to a much bigger box he stopped having accidents. If you want to see if a bigger "bathroom" will work for yours, but can't spend a lot on it, then I recommend going to Home Depot or Lowe's and picking up a thick plastic $6 cement/mortar mix tub. I have one in another room with silica crystal litter. It's about the same size as the Breeze XL. It's easy to clean since the bottom is completely flat and two sides have a very gradual curve (less corners for waste to get stuck in). Make sure to thoroughly clean any accident spots too, since they'll go anywhere they smell they've gone before. Good luck! 😸

      If your cat is consistently pooping outside the box, take them to the vet. According to my vet, peeing outside the box happens for a variety of reasons. Pooping outside the box, when nothing else has changed, is almost always something physical. My 3 year old ragdoll started pooping outside the box for what seemed like no reason. The box, location, litter, etc hadn’t changed. We actually found two different issues, both of which were causing pain when she pooped. Took some playing around with her diet and supplements and she’s fine now! Back to going in the box every time.

They work alright, but they are definitely more messy because they break down and turn to sawdust with moisture. The zeolite pellets are a solid mineral and can actually be cleaned and re-used if you don't want to keep buying and replacing them. If your cat has nice solid poops the pellets actually stay pretty clean and don't need to be replaced for a long while; just topped up to replace whatever sticks to the waste and gets scooped out.
