We are kindred spirits in so many ways. I also live in an older mobile home (my adorable haven) and drive economy cars until they die. Prepare budget meals, shop salvage grocery stores, make things last, mend clothing, etc. I'm a huge fan of recycling and/or up-cycling. Not much is wasted. Yet, I feel I live a RICH life...filled with abundance. The ability to be creative, resourceful and without heavy debt allows a person to breathe freely.

Your Dad was so devoted to your Mom. He just could not live away from her. Didn't he visit her every day in the nursing home? What a precious Love Story! Sounds like you and your husband!
I have a little more disposable income than I had for most of my adult life. We lived on a relatively tight budget. Not as tight as yours, but as my Dad use to tell people his daughters would make a penny scream before they let it go. My parents gave me money for Christmas and birthdays. I’d take half and put it in the bank savings and I’d keep half to spend over time for little luxuries I wanted or needed. I’d think long and hard about what I was going to spend that on. I can afford a little more now, but I still set limits and say this or that is too expensive. When you’ve been frugal for almost fifty years, you don’t just suddenly turn that off. We always had a policy that bills came first, and saving was viewed as much of a bill as any other bill we’d pay. Then if there was money left over, we’d spend it to do something fun. If not, we didn’t spend what we didn’t have.
Oooh! I love that bedspread (quilt?)! Very pretty! Luckily for you, I have a sneaking suspicion that Walmart knew some women would be buying men’s sweats for whatever reason. I think that’s why they offer two shades of pink, which most men would not typically choose for themselves. 😉

He loved her to death and visited her every day for years. May you have the strength to get through this now. I remember in the video you made at the hospital he said to you "I love you too". I cut my own hair and my kids thry have never been to a salon (8 6 and 4) my hubby bought clippers and cuts his hair with those.. We havent had cable in over 10 years we use antenna tv.. No fancy boxes etc.. We dont pay for renting dvds we get movies and books and more from library No home internet.. All clothes handme downs or goodwill or walmart if unable to get or find at goodwill..same for boots shoes.. My wallet zipper broke along time ago..i use a rubber band from broccoli from grocery store to hold together.. Living in our new place no a central air..no trash bill we burn our trash..but more importantly try to reuse or reduce packaging. I reuse grocery plastic bags for trash bags.. Hang clothes to dry on line or on my indoor hangers.. The lights off and tv all day long tv and lamp on alittle before bed

I am really looking forward to your long video! You know, Tessie, when my husband and I lived in the country, we hung our laundry outside when able, or inside our pantry room where we stretched clothesline. Our dryer had quit working, no money for it, so we just decided to not replace it. Saved on the electric bill! Then we moved to town after a car crash. Started to use a dryer again. But, this year, my husband and I decided to run a clothesline in our basement. We were doing a great deal of canning and dehydrating, so our electricity was going up. So, the clothes are drying, the dehumidifier is collecting the moisture, we keep the water from the dehumidifier to reuse for plants! A big difference in our bill! Thank you, Tessie, for all your talks!
I found mens long sleeve shirts at walmart on clearance for $1 and i bought all in my size. Love them especially in the winter to wear with sweat pants. Then my 14 yr old daughter stole them for sleepwear. I just steal my hubby's hoodies and long sleeve shirts now. 🤣

I love food that "sticks to the ribs" as you mentioned...its the best kind! I, too, wear men's clothing. They are more durable and cheaper than women's clothing. In stark contrast though, I am not in the least bit feminine so I do not wear bright colors or bandannas or anything like that. I'm glad, though, that you were able to tie in the bandannas to give you the feminine look you like. We all have to "make it our own" based on our style. You have a lovely style. Good morning sunshine, Tessie! Great tips! I know you don't can milk, but with the weather cooling your canned milk it would be ideal now to store milk. When I'm given more milk than we could possibly drink I can it. But I do recommend simmering your lids. I don't want boiled water in my jars so I sterilize mine in the oven over night at 225° for 25 minutes, turn off your oven and crack your oven door to cool jars. Next day you'll have cold sterilized jars. Note, I place my jars on a large backing sheet up right, that keeps them from condensation while cooling, and hinch, open cracked oven door to cool. Pressure can 10 minutes, turn off, open after pressure is down, or wait 45 minutes before opening your canner. . Process longer if you want evaporated tasting milk for 20 minutes. It doesn't matter about size of jars. The more fat in the milk the more head heavy cream on top you will have, don't throw away, use it on baked potatoes, white sauces, etc... When I can half and half I like to can in jelly jars because I will get that thick cream condensed on top, I put it into another small jelly jar, and I use it on bagels like cream cheese, or a baked potato. My clothes all come from the thrift stores including my shoes. I do have to spend a lot of money on bras bc I have to order them bc the stores don’t sell my size but I save in other places so I can afford to buy them. I do a lot of sewing and make a little money from that.
My hubby and I run our vehicles “into the ground” (as we say) and then we sell it for scrap and go get another vehicle for cash. This saves on interest and insurance. We also chose more work-oriented vehicles over cars so we can use our vehicles for our lifestyle.
These are wonderful tips! For me, I no longer have TV, no contracted cell phone, no going out to eat. I also ran my vehicles until they could no longer run. I do have to have a garbage collector, but it is less than $25/month, which is very little in my area. A person CAN get by with less. For me, it is not a hardship at all. Tessie I get all my clothes from goodwill. I also wear men's sweat shirts and thermal tops. I find a lot of nice clothes at the goodwill. I would rather cook at home and that way I know what I'm eating and who made it. Love you Tessie ♥️
Speaking of clothes when I was young we always had a new outfit at Easter my grandma used to say that if you didn't have something new to wear at Easter the birds would poop on your head !!! I’m a 5’ 9’ women. I started buying men’s clothes, because the arms and legs are longer. Last week I purchased a pink and grey flannel shirt at Walmart for $9 dollars! It can shrink just fine and the sleeves with still be a perfect fit for me. 😊

we used to save our runned pantyhose from Sundays to wear as an extra layer of warmth under jeans & socks

Tessie I get all my clothes from goodwill. I also wear men's sweat shirts and thermal tops. I find a lot of nice clothes at the goodwill. I would rather cook at home and that way I know what I'm eating and who made it. Love you Tessie ♥️

Speaking of clothes when I was young we always had a new outfit at Easter my grandma used to say that if you didn't have something new to wear at Easter the birds would poop on your head !!! I’m a 5’ 9’ women. I started buying men’s clothes, because the arms and legs are longer. Last week I purchased a pink and grey flannel shirt at Walmart for $9 dollars! It can shrink just fine and the sleeves with still be a perfect fit for me. 😊
