Nice to see you still have some rabbits left in the UK. In the Netherlands I guess that 98% of wild rabbits have died because of myxomatosis and RHD. We are not even allowed to shoot them since 2022. I read somewhere that American rabbits (cottontails) are NOT susceptible to myxomatosis. In the north of Italy cottontail rabbits were released in the sixties, and the numbers are growing there.
Yes my worry is that RHD wipes them out here aswell. We've seen a massive decline and I hate to be ast to clear land of the wild rabbits I'd much rather control them . We could see England the same in the next few years ☹️
@@cumbriahunter I wouldn’t stress too much.. they develop immunity to RHD quickly.. we have strategic releases of RHD here in Aus fairly regularly and the rabbit numbers are still bonkers.. the myxo does more damage than RHD in most places..
Yes can't beat long nets stop nets beats using purse nets. I love using them when you get used to. Using them I got 400 yards long nets 16 stop nets. Great so good hunting lads.
100% mate I used to be purse nets all the way but like you say once you get used to them there much better. You notice a difference especially when you have a few bolt out of 1 hole . I stops all the walking over the sets aswell because I hate that and shouting. I try to do it as little as I can bit sometimes it's hard haha . Cheers for the comment pal hopefully some more good footage uploading soon 👍
I really don't understand why U guys in UK dig for your Ferrets so much. Unless there blocked in I don't. Which is rare over in Australia U can't dig our soil anyway. Ferret usually digs his way past. I can't remember the last time I've dug our Ferrets kill and move on which is a trait. Don't breed stickers. Good vid
I have different ferrets for different jobs my hobs tend to stick with a rabbit depending on how hungry he is depends on how long he'll sit . My Jill's tend to just push the surface rabbits out then the rest will go to ground it takes my big hob a couple of minutes to kill a rabbit so I like to get down to him kind of quick so he knows I'm always coming and he waits also he might not want to sit with it and I don't like to leave them suffering inside the set . I find it good practice for my ferrets to dig to them so they always know I've got there back , they expect me to be digging. And plus I've had a block end with 10 rabbits in before and 5+ multiple times. Makes it easier with soft ground mind you 🤣. Thanks for the comments mate I really appreciate any questions or comments 👍👌
I’m in Aus. I dig regularly! I often Mark the bail ups and dig them after I finish a burrow and the ferrets are in the box! Often those stop ends are unfinished tunnels that are close to the surface and there’s a couple of bonus rabbits plugged up in there! Couple shovel fulls of dirt for a couple extra rabbits is a win in my book.. most I’ve ever dug to was 9..
@paulllly I know what your saying pal but these rabbits are dummys and it's not deep so I don't mind them going into a block end . We clear them either way
Fucking hell mate I really appreciate that . I'm not really a wizz with tec but I can ferret so just like to document our days . Basically just put the camera out and video . 😊👍
🤣🤣there's nothing better than the security of some permission but back in the day permission wasn't much of a thing . Farmers used to be happy with killing a few rabbits, how times change eh haha . But yeah I used purse nets for 25 year and thought I'd never change but now I'm the same with long nets . They take a little bit longer to put out until you get used to them but the ground you can cover is better and they stop you missing double bolts . Definitely recommend 👌

Rabbits don’t like bolting in the wind
I know pal but if I didn't go everytime there was wind I wouldn't get out . It was just unlucky it was that windy
Never known anyone to make as much noise as you , rabbit won’t bolt if it knows you’re out there it would rather face the ferret

Rabbit stew for months!
Love rabbiting but never used long net’s couldn’t really long net’s are not conducive with poaching .🤣😂
