Wow. Those colors are beautiful! I’ve been a natural dyer for many years. I have never tried turmeric. I will now. Have you tried using a mordant. I have yarn naturally died that is over 20 years old and not faded. Alum would give you the truest color to the natural dye you are using. I am looking forward to following your work. Thank you.
Yes it is important to use a mordant. The fabric can be treated with alum first to fix the colour onto the fabric. In my other video or walnut dye, I have added pomegranate peel as mordant. However turmeric is a fugitive dye. It starts coming off quickly. With alum it can become a little more fixated. Yet it is a wonderful dye option as it is naturally sourced. Cheers ♥️
It might. There should be no artificial fibre blend. You can give it a try by cutting a small fabric swatch, treating it with a mordant ( eg. alum and water) and then use the turmeric dye bath as shown in the video above. Do try and let me know. Cheers :)
I dint treat swatches in the video with any mordant. However you can always use a mordant to get more qualitative results. Yes, they are cotton swatches.
Would a warm salty water rinse help set the turmeric colour? Or maybe a hot iron later? or both, or not? These colours are beautiful. Thank you for sharing the method.
Try treating the fabric with alum as mordant before dipping into the turmeric. And yes, salt can also work. Plus, it is alright to try different safe ways as you suggested here. Yet, remember that turmeric is a fugitive dye. Wishing you all the best ♥️✨
Any way to make the chosen color permanent and non reactive to ph? I find that after dyeing the fabric still shifts color radically depending on ph. For example, with turmeric, someone's sweat and/or homemade bio deodorant can make the arm pit RED! Haha! So do you have any advice to avoid this color shift?
First off when you mixed bowl 1 & 2 , you said bowl two is darker. I personally didn’t think it looked darker , though once you dyed fabric #2 definitely was darker. Second for making the red color you showed using a laundry detergent. The detergents was blue. I’m thinking because it as blue adding yellow is what caused it to turn red. However I’ve never seen blue detergent. I used a natural one ECOs is a clear liquid. Though lately I’ve been using my own detergent I made myself by mixing washing soda, borax and a grated natural bar of soap. End result is white in color. I can’t see my using the homemade one with the turmeric will give me red.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us! I knew you can dye fabric with turmeric and I also know that it doesn’t last long, still, it is nonetheless so vibrant and alive! I had no idea that mixing powder detergent with turmeric will result into that beautiful red! Is there a percentage that I should follow for that? I would like to dye some silk yarn. I know that silk has to be treated differently because it isn’t a plant fiber but rather a protein and I believe that I have to pretreat it with an acid such as citric acid. I wonder what are your thoughts on that. Thanks again. I’m subscribing and I’m going to watch your other videos.
Thank you for appreciating the effort. Silk fabric is fine to try this dye on. Just make sure it is pure and not a blend. About combining detergent with turmeric, you may first add water and turmeric together and then keep adding detergent until it reaches the colour you desire. In this video, i have added turmeric and detergent together without considering the ratio and water is added afterwards. I hope i could clear your doubts.

Beautiful colors. I didn’t know turmeric couldn’t make a red.
Thank you, this was very interesting . I will certainly try this experiment. Most useful.
You are welcome. All the best 😊
Hi, will this work on viscose organza and other viscose fabrics?
It might. There should be no artificial fibre blend. You can give it a try by cutting a small fabric swatch, treating it with a mordant ( eg. alum and water) and then use the turmeric dye bath as shown in the video above. Do try and let me know. Cheers :)
That was really good. Only yesterday started to look at some simple natural means of dying. Good timing. :-)
Awesome. Have fun experimenting ✨
can we use these colors on white silk dhoties too? Please advice
Yes, why not? Just make sure there is no man-made fabric blend. All the best ♥️
Yes why not? Just make sure there is no artificial fibre blend. All the best ♥️
Woow woow informative video ✅💫
Interesting.. loved it. Thank you!
Pleasure 🙂
These are so beautiful! Does the laundry detergent have to be blue powder?
Not necessarily. You can try with the one you have at home. In case that doesn’t work, try a strong one with blue powder. :)
did u treat your swatches with a mordant ? are they cotten swatches?

Yes, they are cotton swatches.

Why you stopped making videos
Just taking a break. I wouldn’t stop 🤗 Shall be back super soon ✨♥️
Does the fabric need to be wet b4 dipping?
Yes, not too wet. You have to dampen it
Ah alright. Thanks Didi :)

Wow
Nice
If we wash yellow turmeric cloth in detergent it turns into red
Yes. That ll happen. Yet there are some special detergents for natural dyes that keep the colours safe.
