Some time ago, I attended a Wheeler Tool rebranding in Moab, Utah. The toolset I brought home with me has since been my most frequently used tool. It was also a favorite at the Rock Chuck Olympics. Following that trend, I'm checking out the 4 new screwdriver kits from Wheeler in this video. Check it out!

I love Wheeler. The FAT Stix are awesome. You're never too old to learn a new trick. Using flat stock in checking your level was not in my toolbox, but it will be. Thanks, Gavin!

Just an FYI...., everytime one "double checks" torque value of a fastener it increases final torque reading (as taught by USAF instructors re: aircraft maintenance practices).
Personally I like to hit lower to middle of road values, lightly strike caps with plastic handle of a screwdriver (to release thread tension), then after 5 minutes lightly tap caps again and give fasteners "final" torque application (at last setting).

Wheeler needs to offer laser etched tips. My Wera drivers have come in handy for stuck or worn old screw heads. The laser etching really bites into the screw head.

Good looking sets. I've used a FAT wrench for years, it's nice to see it coming in a complete kit. That space saver is ideal for the range/ shooting bag.

Nice sets I'm a organization freak so these are real nice I'll check them out and replace my old set and just keep my old one in the truck for when I'm hunting or at the range.

The beginning of the video spoke to me. I put together a little glove box tool kit for a cross country RV trip. The first time I used it was in Moab.

I have the old version of their largest set, I've been using it regularly for about 10 years now and it is still going strong. What is most impressive is that the majority of that work has been on old milsurps, often with screws that haven't moved in many decades and are sometimes rusty. I bent one bit, one of the really small ones on a rusted Carcano Cavalry carbine rear sight base screw that is completely locked in place. It has such a small head and needs so much force, there was really no chance for that tiny, thin bit and it bent while trying to remove that screw. Other than that one bit it's all still in great shape. I've been really happy with it especially when you compare what it would cost to get all those bits from other name brands. I also have the Fat wrench and several other Wheeler tools.
I like that they put actual latches on these cases. It's a miracle I've never dropped my set and sent bits flying everywhere (SO FAR). I have the old Winchester set for the range bag, it's a similar kit to that space saver one from Wheeler.

I'm an ol school kind of guy that's been using Chapman for years. HOWEVER, I like the fat wrench and I'd like to get my hands on one of those sets. Might have to pick up the hex torx set to check it out. Good video.

yes I do use wheeler tools, the boxes they come in are great, easy to keep organized. The tools themselves are pretty good, they make a tool for almost any situation. Always comment for the algorithm

I use a lot of Wheeler tools, the only one that's ever had a problem is the Digital Fat Wrench. It never worked right out of the box, my standard Fat Wrench has performed awesome for years. Time to get that FAT kit for the bench and put my orginal one in the range box.

I wish the small driver from the second set was included in the gun smithing set and the fat wrench set. I mount optics every day working for a major gun shop and really enjoy doing it. I’ve found using a small driver to get everything going and finger tight is most efficient and comfortable. Then use the fat wrench to torque everything. I’ll most likely be getting the second set and the fat wrench set just to have what suits me best for my home gun work bench set up. Thanks for the detailed review!

Ideally I have bought hole sets several times because I lose 2 or 3 most used bits or some part of the box breaks such as a hinge or acid if a co.pany made it so you could re place a peace or a box by simple contact and a credit card would be worth alot.

That second set should be marketed as a knife and gun set. Them smaller sizes and smaller driver handle are perfect for doing knife maintenance.

I have several Wheeler kits. Most are good quality except the digital fat wrench and the T handle allen wrench set. The wrenches bend easily and come loose from the plastic handle.

  • @DSK_Sean

The digital fat wrench is great, for the price of that fat wrench kit you'd think they would've included the digital version.

Wheeler 30pc torx hex p-handle set bought it a year ago. Size wears off wrenches and the bench stand sucks because the handles overhang each other so you cant pull them out without removing 2 above it......old box of bits is impossible to open too. Should send me out the new box

The only complaint I have for my Wheeler torque wrench is the packaging, which is just good enough. They made the upgrade in the right area.

I have the basic screwdriver kit from Wheeler, as well as the level-level-level, and their ring alignment/lapping kit. The storage cases look much sturdier now. I must say that I am surprised that you didn't mention the step of checking alignment and potentially lapping rings. I know that probably isn't necessary for your custom-built rifles, but can be for those the average "Joe Lunchbucket" (like me) can afford. I mounted a scope on a Weatherby (Howa) Vanguard SII a couple weeks ago and had to lap the rings to rectify a minor lateral misalignment.
I will say that the level-level-level isn't as useful for me as it once was, due to the increase in "fat bolt" rifles. I find myself leveling those via a plum bob approach and leveling the scope across the turret cap. Do yo have any better suggestions for dealing with "fat bolt" rifles?

Surprised you didn't utilize WHEELER's PRO SCOPE KIT.
The barrel mounted level attachment allows you to return the platform to level should it move during the process.
ARISAKA makes a good jig that squares off the picatinny rail (as long as the optic turret assembly housing has a flat bottom) *be cautious of turret housing pinching jig as tightening caps proceed*.

Speaking with one scope manufacturer, their warranty dept told me they see alot of scoped returned under warranty, rings over torqued and that wheeler and the fat max are commonly the culprits. I'd be curious to see a test of the fat max to see if it is really withing the range it claims.

During my career in aircraft maintenance (33 years) torque wrenches had to be inspected and certified as accurate annually.
Biggest mistake civilians make is not returning wrench to lowest setting after torqueing for storage. And that's LOWEST setting...., NOT below.

I love my Wheeler tools and have a lot of them but I am REALLY disappointed in their customer service. I recently broke on of the little tabs off of a bit in the 89 piece deluxe gunsmithing set, the one for the M1 Garand (124-202). I wrongfully assumed it would be easy to replace it and I'd just buy a few. No one carries replacement bits and the Wheeler parts website looks like it's been abandoned. I emailed their support about buying some or putting me in touch with a company that sells them....that was a month a go, zero response from them. They probably lost me as a customer.
