"I wish I could tell you how lonely I am. How cold and harsh it is here. Everywhere there is conflict and unkindness. I think God has forsaken this place. I believe I have seen hell and it's white, It's snow-white." The best line in the whole series
Wonderful, wonderful miniseries. Richard Armitage is so broody and gorgeous! He is definitely got Celtic blood; it's so obvious, with that jet black hair and those blue eyes. He has to be a Pict. My adopted brother is Pictish Irish. His hair is that same jet black, but his eyes are hazel like mine. I'm Viking Irish. I have strawberry hair and hazel eyes, though now both my adopted and biological brothers and I are going silver. My biological brother resembles the German side of our family. My adopted brother is tall like my bio brother, but we look related, lol! We're both white as snow.
One exception: Jane Austen's Persuasion (1995) matched the intimacy of the story with a piano-only score by Jeremy Sams (with an occasional assist from Chopin!); the only orchestral music - if memory serves - is a concert where a soprano is accompanied by by a small ensemble of instruments. But then, this wonderful film breaks a number of "rules": f.i., it uses only natural light for its interior as well as exterior scenes.
This whole scene (and the "Look back at me" scene) is a masterpiece - the cinematography, the score; Mr. Thornton walking throught the mill with the cotton flying around him and Margaret's words - "I believe I've seen hell - it's white, it's snow-white..." British Period Drama at its finest!
my favorite scene is when Margaret is in her carriage and Thornton's looking at her going away and says "look back.....Look back at me...* sooooooooooo adorable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
SilverMoon427 yes ! the emotions in this scene are so intense ! I'm not a really emotional person, but when looking at the scene I could almost feel the pain of Thornton ! I just love this movie so much !
God, I love this soundtrack. It is a true manifestation of the pure misery of that time period, as well as the overall conflicted mood in this series. I just got the ebook (for free, mind you.) And I cannot wait to read it!
Love love this track, wish it were longer. Just rewatched the show and it is just beautifully done. That moment when Thornton walks through the factory in a cloud of white - music captures the scene perfectly. Great series and actors as well. I didn’t want it to end so soon.
it's grim, and beautiful, and dark, and forlorn and helpless, but so tender and fair, just a wonderful piece that really mirrors the heart of these wonderful story and characters.
I grew up in a Yorkshire mill town and work in one now, and this soundtrack makes me think of the mills with the high moors all around, grim and beautiful at the same time.
I've just watched this entire series straight. Oh my gosh it's just the best thing ever, and the music is just wonderful. It's so atmospheric and perfectly evokes the emotions portrayed by the absolutely brilliant actors. My new favourite TV series; thank you so much for posting this. ♥
I just binged it last night, and it was so beautiful and brilliant!!! If you forgot about it, I invite you to see it again, it's so good! I am so glad you liked it too!!!
I loved that she felt so deeply about others and the circumstances that did not directly affect her in the first half of the story before her own personal Hell that Margret fiercely believed what she wrote and believed. A stunning story, and the music was just the cherry on top. Beautiful.
Somehow the beginning of this reminds me of Gustav Holst, and it gives me goosebumps. And then it also gives a melodic picture of the difference between Thornton and Margaret, yet it binds them. Just... PERFECTION!
Thank you sooo much for posting the soundtrack to my all-time favorite period drama EVER. Mr. Thornton will always have such a special place in my heart, and all because I was home sick with the flu and was watching random Netflix shows. This soundtrack is gorgeous, especially this piece, and the whole score brilliantly depicts the town, times, characters, and emotional turmoil. Such a beautiful picture of the middle and lower classes in Victorian times, and an even more beautiful love story. Timeless, and made even more so by the always amazing Martin Phipps.
Oh my goodness the soundtrack is so beautiful. I am going to look for it on Amazon I hope it is available to purchase. I 'll buy several copies for gifts this Christmas... it is just so beautiful...
Rosa Padron estas adicta a esta serie yo desde hace cinco años no la paro de ver lástima que ha medida que la suben la sacan de inmediato no se donde se podrá comprar si sabes algún dato me avisas porfavor saludos
No sweetie it's not hell its your strong headed innocence going uh oh when finally meeting the immovable force that is love in the form of this man that will not be denied but kudos for trying alas he's not like the others guys who withered away .
dudeisodumb - anyway I can get these soundtracks loaded to my iTunes. There was a website at one time but the files are no longer there...ugh! I don't think I can download from UA-cam...can I?
Yeah you can download the mp3 from the youtube url, just google "youtube to mp3 converter" and you can use any of the several websites available. I personally use: www . clip converter . cc/ I hope this helps. :)
As a quasi-sociopathic asshole who's come to, through experience, cynically regard most women as complacent schloots with little-to-no personality beyond their attitudes and gossip, I've had a LOT of superficial relationships of a pump-and-dump nature but...I shit you not, the first _real_ girlfriend I've ever had sat us down to watch _THIS_ on our third date and I was lifted in love by both. You scratch away enough of most girl's opinions and you pierce the veneer painted over unexplored feelings, maybe a heartfelt memory or association but, rarely a well-contemplated answer for anything but this girl, when she spent 25 minutes articulating _WHY_ this series meant so much to her, covering every detail, theme, and character and how it related to her beloved father, a gruff man of great responsibility like Mr. Thornton who was loving even as he was hard and coarse given the mantle he bore and the expectations laid upon...wow... First and last true girlfriend I ever had and I rewatch this series yearly to rekindle the yearning in my soul it ignited for genuine, unspoiled, contemplative women. We dated for six months as I realized I couldn't treat her like the rest; we'd never even made out or "done the deed," even though I clearly sparked something in her and the potential was present. I _COULDN'T_ proceed "as usual" because she struck me as a virtuous and principled person, raised supremely well by a loving and industrious father and a kind and compassionate mother. She was a girl of propriety, like Miss Hale in her time, who wanted to see the world through the light of ideals and people as the best they could be, as "children of God with every capacity to be as He intended them", as she said. I believe she was LDS but man, would that I had been a Christian, and one worthy of her company. After a tearful breakup--cause you just have to, she was still a girl, this emotionally-attaching creature with this inherent desire to bring out the best in me, regardless of how tarnished I knew I'd make her despite her protests that she could maintain both me AND her spiritual standards--I penned a note to her father, commending him for raising such a wonderful daughter and condemning him for having sent her to college where she might encounter fox-pawed scoundrels like me. There are just some people who inspire you to become a better person and this girl was one of them, and she loved _North & South_ and every time this track rolls, I remember that Jean-Paul Sartre was only half right...Hell may be other people but, it can also be found within. This was a great series and whenever anyone asks what I love to watch, I expound on it as _she_ did for me. That was a long-winded contextual tale but, I feel it a transcendent show beloved by transcendent people.

"I wish I could tell you how lonely I am. How cold and harsh it is here. Everywhere there is conflict and unkindness. I think God has forsaken this place. I believe I have seen hell and it's white, It's snow-white."

**muffled scream** This whole series is just...so...stunning.
Agreed. That and “Look back at me.”
@The Good Days, Both bring me to tears every time. Weird how a simple sentence or one line of music can effect you like that
and he looks like the Devil himself.
You cannot, I repeat-CANNOT-have a period drama without a damn good sweeping orchestral score.
so fucking true....

British Period Drama at its finest!
I wish it were longer, it's so...deep sounding, bittersweet, grim, beautiful.
It makes me think of my late parents 😭
Truly a great score and line together when she says, “I’ve seen hell and it’s white...snow white.” That ending of the episode is just so powerful.
I have seen hell and it is white...snow white. (cue in cotton fluff)
Favourite scene!!!!
+Bhyjaz Jazz Mine too!
my favorite scene is when Margaret is in her carriage and Thornton's looking at her going away and says "look back.....Look back at me...* sooooooooooo adorable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Is verry sad scene, his face changing expression when he realize she will not look back,it made me cry that scene.

This is the music where you need to cry but still have the feeling that you can finally breathe freely again💖
Love love this track, wish it were longer. Just rewatched the show and it is just beautifully done. That moment when Thornton walks through the factory in a cloud of white - music captures the scene perfectly. Great series and actors as well. I didn’t want it to end so soon.
This track is my favourite!! If only it were longer...

Martin Phipps is a genius!
My favourite scene ever

Definitely something very English and pastoral about his composition.
Bellissima la scena della stazione.
I love this, 19th century based movies always have the best soundtracks
I fell in love with this mini serie as same as a girl falls in love with boy. Slowly and suddenly completely.

Why isn't this on Spotify
❤🎼🎵🎶
You could put this at the end of any bad or good film with a cliff hanger or the main character dies and it would become good
It’s unfortunate the music from this series cannot be acquired via Apple’s music service.
God, that was so beautiful. Amazing music. Hands off to the composer! Does anyone know who it is?
Here's the link to download the soundtrack: goo.gl/4zJTh4
