  • In this video, we explore why "beauty" became taboo in the 20th century and discuss its significance with art and aesthetics. We also explore the concept of taste, David Hume's "ideal critic," and wrestle with the questions: Is beauty subjective? Is it merely in the eye of the beholder?

Your sincere passion and enthusiasm are contagious and the way you explain how it all leads to God with out being corny or preachy is exactly what is needed this days. Lost you at the religiosity talk. Why believe in a higher deity when there is no evidence for it at all? Why can't beauty exist without calling into necessity the existence of a higher judgmental being? Organised religion or belief in a make believe deity isn't necessary to behold beauty.

I really enjoy the enthusiasm of these videos and the analysis draws out some very important themes in the theory/philosophy of art. The conversation is however tainted by “confirmation bias” - her starting point is her own strong faith in Christianity. In itself I would have no personal objection to this stance if, and only if, she had balanced this with alternative explanations of “beauty” that require no appeal to the existence of some divine being.

I’m currently in a Philosophy of Art and Beauty class and I think this was a wonderful, powerful presentation of Hume’s view and the problems directly at the heart of the debate. Great stuff!

On fire... your discourse ignites the passion I have for my art...
    in my opinion :
we all aim to" touch the divine"
Being part of a religious philosophy may not minimize the search for it .
Science is also another tool that may be used to uncover it.
However ,dogma and unwillingness to explore will end it.

Maybe we all sense what we call art and beauty easily and is just the use or the word and the meaning that we use for it what is wrong to our understanding.
Your energy and stuttering is cautivating.
    Loved your channel.

This was really good, but you lost me at being a follower of Christ. I didn’t see that coming. I got out of that a long time ago and remembering it causes my stomach to turn.

Maybe your version of Christianity isn't what Christianity really is...? God is beautiful. I found that what she talks about in the video makes a lot of sense. She also mentioned bad religious experiences demolishing things.
