Skiing in Whistler isn't cheap, but it is a great place if you're a beginner looking to learn to ski. In this video, we take you round some of Whistler's beginner ski slopes, as well as discuss how much it costs to ski in Whistler.
We have lots more Whistler videos coming up over the next few weeks, so feel free to subscribe if you don't want to miss out!

I learned in Val D'Isere 15 years ago as a novice and I got on really well, Whistler is relatively user friendly in comparison and I loved it, best gentle ski resort recommendation would be Levi, Finland, but be warned its COLD; but great video, keep calm and carry on skiing.

Biggest obstacle to learning to ski in Whistler as a beginner is not the mountain itself, but money. Whistler is extremely expensive, especially if you're looking to stay in Whistler, and even more so if you also want to have a private hot tub. As a complete beginner you won't be really enjoying the mountain to its fullest, so it's kind of a waste trying to learn there.
I think it's better suited for learning to go to advanced from intermidiate level, as there is lots of terrain there to push your boundaries.

I totally agree! It was a very expensive place to go as a beginner. We usually visit Whistler in the summer time and we always love it so thought we would give it a go in the winter. I did pick up the skiing a little more towards the end of the holiday but I did find the green runs challenging for a beginner! (I didn’t manage to make it onto the blue runs) Abbie ☺️

2:40 that was your first mistake. Magic chair lift ticket - $20 per day. Blackcomb base area. You're welcome.

they sell a lift lesson and rental package for much less than the individual price of each added together it is a much better deal

Ah I didn’t know that! I never ended up getting any lessons in the end.

Nice video, very expensive beginner hill!! wearing a helmet is absolutely personal choice, but choosing to add extra risk of a serious head injury is not in my humble opinion a smart choice.

Skip Whistler as a beginner...most kids in BC start at cheaper local mountains...also used to get deals through ski clubs in high school. Cypress, Grouse, Seymour are cheaper options...but so many other cheaper options...Mt Washington, Baker...Silverstar, Big White...Whistler is probably the worst place to learn to ski or snowboard for reg people on a budget...ah but marketing sucked in these Brits to Whistler;) Whistler/Blackcomb died as a semi affordable ski destination for locals back in the 90's...heck it was even expensive then;)

Believe it or not, but the top of the gondola is considered “mid-mountain.”

whistler is a tough place to learn especially on your own a lot of the green runs are like blues the instructors know where to go and the order in which you need to do the trails in, so take a lesson there are no easy runs from the top even if it says green to ski whistler it better to be a strong intermediate

I believe it's best to learn by pushing yourself, and going on longer runs instead of doing short runs on a bunny hill. After 2-3 days learning to ski, a beginner should be able to ski from very top to very bottom in Whistler. The biggest issue will be navigating all the traffic as it gets very busy there.

It definitely was a tough place to learn! I was really surprised how challenging the green runs were. I really thought they would be much easier. I didn’t manage to get onto any blue runs during our trip.

Well if you are European, I won’t recommend you to go to Whistler at all since there are way better and bigger ski resorts in Europe with lower cost.

I’ll be honest, I’ve not been on the slopes in a few years now and I’d never seen anyone wearing a helmet before! Times have changed 😂

Wearing a helmet is an individual choice. I've skied for over 50 years and only been wearing a helmet for the last 15 years. The first 35 years I was fine despite tons of crashes. Helmets are a good thing to wear but not essential.
