Hiking Blanca Lake - One of the Best Hikes in Washington!

- Blanca lake is one of my favorite day hikes in Washington. It's a stunning alpine lake that gets it's turquoise color from the glacial melt behind it. It's worth seeing in person to get a look at that unreal water. Enjoy!

I haven’t been there for almost 30 years… took the hike with my wife and dog back in ‘94 and was driven out by a thunderstorm! It’s still as beautiful as ever! Thanks for renewing a fantastic memory of a gorgeous alpine lake!
Great video and beautiful hike. Just know that this hike is really popular. The day my son and I did it there was little space around the shore because of all the people and the trail was one hiking party after the other coming out. Parking lot gets full. Just FYI for peak times and seasons.
Another hike to add to my list. Beautiful!! I live in Seattle this is close.
😅 Mount Blanca Colorado is where I camp driving from Tennessee to Moab.
Next to Great Dunes. 6 peaks over 14k and a road to upper lakes.
4x4 death road.
Here you can drive up Fortune Creek to Gallagher Head Lake. Or walk up from DeRoux camp.
LIKE THE TREES. Easiest trees are I90 exit 47 Ashael Curtis. Loud cars etc. Park on Denny Creek side walk down river cross over under the bridge. Day use is past turn up Valley/Denny Creek. Old Growth 1.5 mile loop. Both sides. Anette Lake TH. I never drive there road is SHT. Walk over from day use.
I have never seen someone swim in an alpine lake, glad it was not too cold. Fun to see it done! Great video!
This one is a total stunner! It would be my favorite, too. GREAT VIDEO SKILLS!
Thank you, with a lake like this it's hard to get a bad shot!
Nice job! Thanks for the inspiration for a next video. Super fun!
It is s beautiful lake and I have been there 3 times but The Enchantments above Leavenworth are way better and there are lots of lakes on this trail just as beautiful as Blanca Lake.
It reminds me of Diablo Lake near North Cascades Highway.
Great video that brings back memories. I went there with a buddy when I was in high school in the early 70s. We got to the top, but couldn't see the blue lake we were looking for, then realized we were looking right at it. It was still all iced and snowed over and the trail down was impassable. We returned later in the summer on a day like in this video. Beautiful place. I've been to Glacier Basin and Monte Cristo on the other side and wondered if it's possible to get to them from the Blanca Lake side.
I just moved to Washington and thanks to you I have visited many places, thanks for sharing
Beautiful hike and lake . Thank you! So happy you overcame your physical obstacles and can enjoy your passion.
Thank you for your support!
Beautiful! It is truly a classic PNW hike. I hiked in the pouring rain a few years ago, and was excited to hike again last year until we literally ran into the fire on the way to the trailhead.. So we never made it. Looking forward to returning and checking out that boot path around the side of the lake in nicer weather. Great video and You are awesome btw. Looking forward to following along.
Thanks for the B roll. It does add to the video. Thanks for posting. Tough feet. I would be gimping badly.
Great videos! Helping me add hikes to my bucket list!
Thank you, have fun out there!
Thanks for sharing your health issues. You have a great channel and you are doing great!!
I’m am speechless, what a wonderful place my friend! Outstanding upload 🥾
Thank you so much, really had to try to do this lake justice
This was my very first hike back in 2017 and wow was it something. A grueling but truly rewarding experience. The water so refreshing and the views so incredible.
On my "bucket list". I live in SW Washington, and last weekend I did 2 hikes up near Mt. Baker (Chain Lakes Loop and Park Butte Lookout). Hopefully, I will get to Blanca Lake in 2024. :) Thanks for sharing!!:)
Great job. Cool hike.
thank you so much
Thank you for sharing.2 thumbs up.I definitely would come back to washington and add the blanc😊❤❤a lake to my list.
It is so worth the visit! Thank you
The color is from glaciers grinding rock particles into the water.
Thank you so much for a beautiful video and your inspiring commentary about Blanca LK. This hike is on my list for the future. Will be interested in hearing you talk about and show on these videos what the access road is like. Is it suitable for all vehicles? What is the parking situation? Looking forward to watching more your videos 🙂. Happy hiking!
Thank you for this! I want to check out Blanca lake and Goat lake. I like all the mining history around the Monte Cristo area!
The geology in the area is fascinating, goat lake is also so much fun. Happy hiking!
Looks cool. Haven't been up that way yet but I'm hoping to get into Glacier Peak before the summer is over. Its getting added to the list.
Good luck on Glacier peak, that's on my list too!
Is the road open all the way to the trailhead? And thanks for a great video 😊 Blanca Lake is definitely one of my favorites!
The road is washed out, and likely won't fully reopen this year from what I've heard, so it's currently a 10 mile round trip instead of 8. The road-walk is flat so no extra gain thankfully.
@@wanderingwashington They have cleared the washout as of last week.
Was the wash out on the road still their?
And was Blanca or the index town wall harder
How did you find the place so empty when I went there it was soooo crowded.
I get there early, and usually hike on weekdays. Starting 1-2 hours before the most popular start times puts you well ahead of crowds on popular hikes like this
How's the road to the trailhead?
The road until the washout section is in good shape. It's 12 miles of gravels roads, but mostly just washboarding, it's a bumpy ride but any car can make it.
how were the road conditions to the trail head?
Not bad, the gravel road is mostly just wash boarded with a few potholes, any car can make it just fine. The road on the final section is washed out so it adds 2 miles rt to the hike, but they are flat miles so it's not so bad.
@@wanderingwashington thank you. I really need to do this hike. I want to go very early in the morning to beat the crowds.
Looks like the washout is now fixed according to recent trip reports on WTA site ... cooler sunnier weather forecasted for this weekend. Might have to venture out there.
How did you overcome the fear of hiking all by yourself, if you had any?
I was nervous until I actually got to the trail and the second I took my first steps it was so freeing, so I've never really struggled with being afraid on my own. I am a loner by nature so I think that played a big role in it. I might make a video eventually with some tips for solo hikers and climbers.
My best advice is to pick a trail you are comfortable with and also excited about, make sure you have your 10 essentials and go for it!
Damn babygirl a 22 minute video who got time for that
I do
