@@AntennasDirect That may be true, to a point. But with most antennas that are able to receive a single from "behind", the station in question would need to be a lot CLOSER than the main transmitters it's aiming at. For example, 50 miles away might be quite reasonable when receiving from the front. From the back, the range is probably not much more than 15-20 miles.

@Lighrsngear I get 30mi in the opposite direction with an attic install. I’m sure on the roof it would be even better. The V version is obviously better but I’m curious if the metal baffles block the rear signals more vs this one.

Great review. Thanks for the unbiased review. I have a ClearStream antenna like that one, but it is the smaller one that came with a stand. It works great in my apartment on the third floor. I live about 23 miles north of Seattle. I have a ton of trees and hills in the way, but no problem getting in the channels i want. I don't even have to put it in a window. I hadn't run across your awesome reviews before I had gone through several bad antennas, but sure wish I had it would of saved me quite a bit of money and time. Because of this review this bigger ClearStream antenna will be the next antenna I buy. It will mount easily to a wall with 3M command strips.

Installed this antenna in my attic. Home is single story, stucco, with concrete roll tile roofing. Broadcast tower is approximately 40 miles away and is separated by a short mountain ridge. I installed it high up on a roof rafter for maximum indoor elevation. Picked up 98 digital channels without the use of a booster.

On Antenna Man's review, I got this one. It works very well on VHF as well as UHF and mostly eliminated my pixelation issues. A big improvement over my old Clearstream 2V. Only one issue: For indoor use, the antenna does not balance well on the base. Yes, I can secure the base but I'd like the antenna better if I didn't have to. A heavier base for better balance would be an improvement.

I have this antenna and boosted reception by mounting a rectangle piece of pet screen with 1/4” squares. It is not connected, just, mounted on the poles U bolt with fender washers. I made a wood block mount and drilled a precision hole in it with a foster bit. This block on a plywood base supports a pole that holds the antenna. This sits on the bedroom dresser and I can turn it with my hand in lieu of having a router. I use RG6 coax bought a Klein crimping tool and Klein connectors, and run 3 sets with a distribution amplifier. Thank you for tipping me off on quality cable. That was a game changer. I can pull in tv stations from Madison,WI from Rockford, IL. Love your channel!

I purchased this antenna. i also purchased a new TV as the house is new.
I needed to wait until I had a 15' pole to mount it on and all the RG6 connected in the interior so I simply ran an extra piece of RG6 through the window, connected it and laid the antenna up against the house on the ground. I was in hopes of getting one or two local LOS transmitters but was amazed to find I got all in my area!
I am impressed. Since then, it is mounted at 15' AGL and I get excellent reception of everything in a 60 mile radius along with a few at about 75 miles although conditions do have an effect on the long distance broadcasters and those are somewhat deflected. I can only imagine the capabilities if we had a bit of tropospheric ducting.
all in all, I am very surprised at the gain of this semi-omni directional antenna.
    Very surprising.

This antenna is worth buying and for most people will work great ! I will say that you should be within 50 miles or less of the broadcasters antenna and it should work fine unless you have mountains etc in your view!

    • @isaachousley325
      @isaachousley325 Рік тому

50 sounds reasonable. Terrain, brodcast antenna height, receiver antenna height, and broadcast power are the main things that matter provided your receiver antenna is a decent design. Changing your receiver antenna isnt going to make it possible to pick up a station over 70 miles away if both antennas are surface mounted.

Thank you Antenna Man for a great review of the ClearStream 4MAX. We won't hold it against you about retracting your true review of the Pingbingding antenna - your followers have a right to know the truth - you cannot receive signals 150-miles from the towers. If you notice at Walmart, which has this exact same antenna, they changed their mileage claim to 80-miles, which is still a stretch, but better than 150-miles. We appreciate your honestly with your followers and cannot wait to see your next review.

Great review as always! I just purchased the ClearStream 4Max along with the Winegard LNA-200 Boost XT HDTV Preamplifier. I ended up using an older Channel Master CM-7777 Titan2 Amplifier for more of a boost to the signal. I am in the Fort Collins area of Colorado and pull signals from Denver, CO and also Cheyenne, WY off the rear of the antenna. I am getting great signals from as far away as 64 miles. Both VHF and UHF are great. One of the VHF channels suffers from Solar EMI. I added 3 ferrite chokes between the antenna and before the preamp. This seemed to help significantly with that channel. I tried an LTE filter but did not notice any difference so I removed it and got my 3db sacrifice back. Thanks for all the great information! I really enjoy your channel.

When Gold & Silver is made scarce it causes many, many problems.

      * President can create an Executive Order to wipe out the U.S.A. debt.
Then allow Congress their Constitutional right to print non-debt based money again as they did before the year 1913.
The words 'FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE' will then be replaced with the words 'UNITED STATES NOTE' back on our cash.
If Congress does not do this soon we are going to be in a lot of trouble ! !
Why isn't the President taking action by implementing this ?
I and many other American's are not afraid of the corrupt Federal Reserve bank. "We The People" are the government. The U.S. Constitution clearly explains this! The politicians are our public servants. WE SHOULD NEVER BE AFRAID TO FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH ! ! !

The evil elitist that manipulate the prices of Gold & Silver can make a new law that says you can't "buy or sell" with Gold, Silver or Cash.
Their new form of "money" will be a computer chip in your "right hand or forehead" that can be scanned just like your bank debit cards at all stores.
How many of you have 7 years of food stored up in your houses or in your apartments or on your property ?
Why would anybody invest or put their trust in Gold & Silver that is manipulated by very evil people ?
Question, how many of you will be willing to trade your guns and ammo in for food and medicines?
How many are going to let themselves and their family members go hungry to the point of starvation by NOT accepting the new 666 "beast" money system ?
How many of you will allow yourselves or family members suffer with an injury because you refuse to have the injury treated at your local walk-in clinic or hospital that only accepts a computer chip in the "right hand or forehead" ?

Been watching your antenna ratings for a long time and have enjoyed them. I have one of the “ junk antennas “ that you like to beat apart on video. I was given a $120 8 bay channel master to try. When I hooked it up I actually lost signal and got less channels. After 3 days of trying different directions and boosters the old $35 Vansky is back on the mast and working fine. Glad I didn’t have to fork out $120 to find out this info

I purchased the ClearStream 4V TV Antenna per your suggestion back in October of 2019. At first mounted outdoors over the house it was a miracle giving supreme reception in the middle of northern Michigan woods. Then reception issues started. I had it on the "sweet spot" but discovered it didn't like our trees. I purchased the recommended Channel Master pre-amp and that did help but we still lose channels when the wind picks up and other times for apparently no observable reason. We get the big guns (ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS) fairly well. But our favorite station is MeTV and we struggle with that one. I purchased a longer solid copper cable (approx 60 foot) and mounted the antenna facing an opening. Hopefully that will help some. Great videos and we all learn a lot.

If you have a lot of trees a preamp or new coax cable won't help since you have a very basic small directional antenna. You'll need something larger. Consider an antenna recommendation from me at the link below. This can prevent you from spending hundreds of dollars and time wasted on setting up the wrong antenna for your area. antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html

So this past weekend I bought a ClearStream 4Max and because of rain, it took me until today to test it out.
So I'm using it to pickup the Wilmington NC towers and aimed my Channel Master Extreme towards Greenville.
Both antenna are on the same pole and plugged into an RCA Preamp, 20 to 25 feet .
This is a nice antenna. It cost more than the Channel Master Extreme, but receive just as many stations. I'm getting about 55 station. I'll scan again in the morning which is when I usually get more stations that fade out by noon.

You are absolutely correct, some people are so caught up with the sight of the antenna they sacrifice viewing because they are worried the neighbor might ask them, “what’s that thing” ?. Tell them either, none of your business or that’s saving me thousands of dollars a year but not feeding the cable company.

Are you talking about Danny S Hodges? The guy who has created 3 UA-cam channels and 100's of videos to tell you how great he is at what he's invented... only to learn he's using the same old stuff that antenna builders have used forever and just regurgitating it back as slowly as possible for UA-cam revenue after going online and learning it from someone else?
With the presence that Tyler has here on UA-cam, why do you suppose Danny hasn't sent him a free one to test and promote? And then offered him some kind of commission for his sales?
Can't argue the quality of materials he's selling, but none of the ideas are his own.

The issue isn't so much are the ideas original but do they actually work? How well do they work verses the claims and will they perform reasonably well for me verses the cost. Most will not share but I will say 1 thing about Danny...he has video that shows you how to do exactly what he does when he builds the antennas.

From his videos I don't doubt Hodges makes a solid antenna even if he uses other peoples past designs, he still adds some of his own ingenuity.

I live in the 33599 area code and installed a GE Surface Mount Directional Outdoor Hd; Uhf; Vhf TV Antenna. This thing works great. It was also picking up some stations out of my market. So i decided to by another antenna antenna to point north to get the Sarasota / Tampa channels.I bought a Five Star Yagi Satellite HD antenna which said a 200 mile range. The stations I am attempting to get are maybe 60 miles to the tower. I spliced the cables with a cable combiner. Needless to say I get the channels but they are pixilated and intermittent. Very disappointing. I am probably going to take it down and send it back. Considering an amplifier but I don’t want to blow more money if it won’t work. Oh well I wish I would have found your channels prior. Thanks is very informative!

More channels, zero issues. No question, in the attic is the way to go.

I got excellent results on my 6 ft pole on stations aprox 35 miles away, I moved it to my 30 ft pole, again excellent results, no weather/solar interference. I am hesitant to put it on my 75ft pole due to wind pressure/resistance, especially in winter if I get a western ks blizzard/ice storm. At 35 ft it has handled gusts of 60 mph and sustained winds of 50 mph for 3 + days. Thanks for all you do.

Perhaps you're talking about ATSC 3.0? Same antennas that have served us for the past 50 years will continue to work just fine. It's the TV and tuner that will need an upgrade if you want the higher quality that will be available.

    • @richellebrittain2127
      @richellebrittain2127 3 роки тому

ATSC 3.0 affects antennas even less than ATSC 1.0 did (and that wasn't as much as some folks claim -- the biggest change there was UHF became the primary band); it may be even easier to receive than ATSC 1.0. The big issue with ATSC 3.0 is tuners & codecs; there's already an HDHomeRun with ATSC 3.0 on 2 of its 4 tuners, but its biggest compatibility issue right now is lack of Dolby AC-4 codecs especially on open-source streaming apps like Plex. Those will be overcome, however. No need at all to wait for new antennas, and little if any need to wait for new TVs; ATSC 1.0 will remain available in each market for at least 5 years after ATSC 3.0 is introduced.

I got that one about a year ago. It was OK but I have made better. A few months ago we had some strong winds come through and it blew my antenna pole down. It cracked the plastic cover and broke one side of the rod. Now it does nothing. I took it apart and looked inside thinking something had come lose or should I say broke lose, but everything seemed to be intact. But still I get nothing out of it. I did not have the money to buy a new one, but I did have one I built some years ago. It had stopped working, after looking it over I found the transformer had come lose.
The only reason I bought this one is because you said it was a good one. And I was pressed for time. So the one I made I replaced the transformer and got it back up in the air. Now it is working.

I went with the 4 Max and had troubles pulling in two High VHF channels that are 50 miles LOS from me with my antenna 25 ft off the ground. Working with Clearstream customer service for a couple weeks they had said that the 4Max is not as good for VHF and I would need to add the Clearstream 5. This works well but both antennas together and a combiner were pretty pricey. The PBS Station that's 60 miles away same direction the setup will only pull it in 10% of the time. The 4 Max does do very well pulling in the UHF channels that are behind the direction it's pointed 10 to 12 miles away. Overall I'm happy with the setup but may consider a different antenna being the distance I am from the main channels I watch.
