I copied that 0-5-7 down mike and it really was God sent thank you. I have been having such a good time now with all the songs I play. At 76yo I don't catch on as fast as I use to but just takes a little longer. Thank you Mike, you have no idea how that helped me. Two years playing now. If I had not got the hang of it last year my banjo would more likely be collecting dust some where.
fred navrotski that’s great to hear Fred it’s all about fun and enjoyment and you can even entertain people along the way. Feel free to ask any questions. I have over 300 songs on UA-cam now all different mixes country , folk, gospel and all the banjo ones will have the same strum pattern and same 0-5-7. There should be a few you like so good it’s working out.
Dave I have a lesson one update with my blonde DEERING banjo too. The easiest thing to do is get ( guitar tuna app ) it’s for tuning string instruments but you have to get the pro version then you will have all different tunings for all kinds of instruments. I use banjo open C I just don’t use the 5th string. It’s a very good app so you might sing in D or G or something else it’s all in the app very easy to change tuning
This comment is meant for AFTER you started using your Deering 4 string banjo and C tuning with C-G and F chords. This is a GREAT idea! I sing in G. I can already make the C and D7 chords in the traditional way on a five string banjo. I can already do your strum pattern. I can easily take my fifth string off. Since I am so far along in G, how can I convert your chord changes to play all your songs in G tuning on my 5 string banjo? would me playing a G chord where you play a C, me playing a C where you play a G chord and me playhing a D7 where you play and F chord work OK??? If it will, I am ON MY WAY! Thanks, Mike you have provided a great service to a lot of people.
Jim if you do take the 5th string off you'll still be tuned to open G if you were in standard tuning so if you use 5th and 7th frets you will have the 3 chords for singing in G. Just Barr all 4 strings on the 5th and 7th frets and your on your way. You don't need your finger tips. Good luck. That's why I use. 0, 5, 7 instead of chords so any chord you play in will still be 0,5,7. (eg with a capo)
Hi Mike , Just new to the banjo so i'm going to try your style of playing with four strings would you please tell me what note each string are tuned to in your banjo because iv.e tried different open C chords but can't get the same sound as you .
I also have 2 lesson updates Jim, but I’m tuned to open C . From the biggest to the smallest , C , G , C , E . They would be the 4 smallest strings on a 6 string guitar if it was tuned to open C but check out the lesson updates. Feel free to ask any questions. There’s about 240 songs you can choose from on my channel. They will all have the same strum pattern. Good luck
Yes Paul, I just couldn't stretch my hand enough to Barr all 6 strings on the guitar but I could just bend my fingers on the banjo and not move my hand at all. Just tune to an open chord and use the 5th and 7th fret good luck.

@@mr.mikeaz1 thank you Mr. Mike. Guess I need to experiment a little to figure out what key my voice is.
@@somarmd the app also has a chromatic setting so you could say aaah in your voice range and it will show what range your in
@@mr.mikeaz1 great thank you!

thanks, can this idea transfer to for a guitar player with similar tuning, well done.
