Answered this myself - it's easier than this: 1. Run a standard update of the APT repository lists. sudo apt update. 2. Install the software. sudo apt install session-desktop.
Using protonmail advertises that you care about privacy and security. I prefer a discreet email address. I think you can use your own domain with Proton. That's better.
