Well, I can't say my first reaction when I watched the anime since I already read the manga first. But I remember after I read that scene in the manga, my brain blank out at first. After that, I think, 'is that titan alive?'
"Oh god I have to wait now."
You need to wait season 2 and 3 if you wanna action and answer, season 1 its all question, season 2 is question, action and go to answer, season 3 more epic and intense straight to season finale
There was a episode that you guy were told to watch the credit scene watch the credits scene again with your new understanding to guess who the remaining titan shifters are
Fun Facts:
At the beginning of the episode, Annie has a dream in which she appears training with her father, this was actually a flashback to Chapter 17 (which should have appeared in Episode 4 (23)
It should be noted that the original flashback was much shorter than the dream (23)
Annie, instead of smiling, laughs uncontrollably (23)
A smuggling scene occurs by Military Police officers (23)
Fun Facts:
Originally Eren transforms immediately after Mikasa tells him "The world is a cruel place." (24)

Because just like any group of friends, when someone says something and that comes from someone who is reasonable, the other tend to agree immediately. One of them said "It might be his mom" and they all agreed and was sure it was the mom. 😂

I also didnt realized that it was Annie at the first time. The time they were trying to get into the basement and Annie refused to go, then at that moment I was surprised and starting to hate her 😠After this time onward, I realized that AoT were all about twist and made me suspicious about anything lol

Armin did suspect Annie when he saw that she had someone else's equipment, but he tested his hypothesis when she attacked Reiner. Armin screamed, "She killed the suicidal bastard!" He was trying to trick her into thinking she'd accidentally killed Eren, but he also knew that only someone from their group would know Eren by that nickname.
I love how the anime gives us so many subtle hints that seem obvious on a rewatch. Like, just before Armin screamed "she killed the suicidal maniac" she was looking down on him and you can see Armin's eyes widen, that's when he recognized her.

@@Meta-Potence Annie wouldn't care about killing Jean. Her goal was to catch Eren alive. If she thought she accidentally killed him, her mission would be a massive failure. That's why she froze for a moment when Armin said that.

And It doesnt have anything with firsttimers in anime too. I was watching anime for 20 years at time when AOT season 1 was released. There are just 2 type of ppl in this case. People, which watch anime and after every episode are making theories about everything and then they catch some things and can predict what will be next. Then there are ppl like me, which just enjoy show and then I enjoy even more surprises like this. Yes I can manage that who is who if I spend some time on that... but... why :D I love it more, when it surprise me with that shock effect.
I love the Annie reveal so much. It complete knocks you over, but in hindsight, it's like, "how did i not see it??"

Fun fact in the manga/comic Annie just smiles when she reveals being the female titan. Later the creator regreted not making her laugh, so when the show aired he asked the animation studio to change her smile into the laugh. Also at the minute 20:57 some comic/manga translation have Levi say "Maybe he is shitting but the shit won't come out" which is more funnier in my opinion.
He was so dedicated to both the manga and the anime its insane. 10 years of prep work before the first issue was released, pausing the anime production because he was so happy with it he went back to the manga and polish it up so it was the best it could be, fixing a few of his "mistakes" or adding some details he wished he had included in the manga with the anime, even things like personally directing the voice actora as to how he intended certain lines to be said (you know the lines.)

In Japanese it's more like The Goddess Titan. They say megami titan. 'The Japanese word "女神" (megami) translates to "goddess" in English. It is used to refer to a female deity or a divine female figure.' (From chatgpt)
@@billbill6094not the only time either, he ended up requesting a change to the wording and placement of a crucial scene near the end of the story (you probably know which one) for the anime because it came out kinda… bad in the manga
@@billbill6094 Kind of liked the added stuff even back in episode 3. When Eren hits his head trying to figure out the balance issue with the practice gear, there's a scene at the table in the mess hall where Eren sits alone and look utterly devastated. His expression makes it look like a bit of comic relief, especially since you can hear others mocking him at this time, however if you look carefully you can see titan steam coming from Eren's head. The steam stops when Mikasa snaps him out of it in the next scene and then Eren looks fairly animated again, which probably was a result of his regeneration healing a very real concussion subconsciously.
@@billbill6094 which is why when we inevitably get a live action adaptation of aot, I hope isayama will be neck-deep involved in its production like how oda is right now for one piece. hoping it will be some years into the future though so that technology can catch up to the level that aot deserves.

@@rookie1178 I remembered her right at the beginning of this episode too first time watching. For me, I didn't even notice her missing when Eren's friends show up joining the Survey Corps, and Eren asks about Marco, and it took that left turn of Jean telling Eren that Marco was dead and that not everyone was special like him. I knew there were more people Eren was friends with from the Cadets, but the actual amount of people and who they were slipped my mind at the moment because I was excited to see "a bunch" of them reunited, and Annie had not been a focal character other than the hand to hand training when they were Cadets.
Show is a masterpiece of misdirection.

I love Erwin - Levi moments, and Erwin asked Levi to stay out because he knew Levi always cares a lot about his comrades and doesn't want any more casualties. This shows how great as a character he is, not only as humanity strongest soldier, but also the most caring one, and that's my man Levi.
Immediately followed by Armin talking about the theme of needing to cast away your humanity to defeat a monster
Absolutely! I see Levi, for better or for worse, characterized as a stone-cold killing machine a lot, and I can see why but the show really goes out of its way to pepper in moments that illustrate how deeply he really cares about people. Every death weighs on him even if he doesn't have a big emotional display about it.

16:55 🤯 Annie was in the top 10 cadets, she was in 4th place. She is tough in battles, and has defeated both Eren and Rainer in hand-to-hand combat. For me, she is one of the memorable characters, but yes - she was given very little screen time and I was upset because of this, because I wanted to see more of her cool badass character.

@@BekindBekbek We did have a snippet of it in episode 4. Eren and Reiner were training together and Reiner wanted to teach a lesson to Annie because of her slacking off. She then swiftly put them on their asses and told Eren her dad taught her hand-to-hand combat (and later Eren defeated Jean using her technique, implying she took the time to teach him).
She has a special OVA episode you might want to check out. I only wish they show the fight between Mikasa and her.

I'm glad you noticed that Annie was crying and had a story to tell, in addition to the feelings she showed about "being treated" like a human. Most people don't pay attention to those details and simply see her as the enemy, which is logical, but it shows that you are really paying attention to the story. Although Annie being the Female Titan did seem a little obvious, I was surprised that you were surprised.

Mason Quinn's not exactly wrong. She was played off as a background character, so it makes sense to be taken aback when she's suddenly brought into the main story. She had faded from memory for most people by that point. But at the same time, most people usually recall that she was there in the beginning after seeing her again.

I'm speaking as someone who read the manga as it came out. When it was on a weekly release, there were many weeks that went by without Annie being on the mind. It was of course easy to remember who she was, but most casual fans (meaning *most* fans since hardcore fans who come up with theories as quickly as possible are always the minority of any manga or anime) wouldn't have thought of her for a while.
I know it's hard for some of you, the very vocal minority, to imagine. The silent majority doesn't participate in these kinds of discussions. The fact of the matter is that AoT was huge enough to have a large normie fanbase who didn't spend hour after hour thinking about it.
AoT is the type of show which gives you multiple subtle hints before revealing something big, so every time you notice something dont think it was a mistake or anything just point it out, be very observant, part of the fun of AoT is it actually has like a puzzle mystery in which the watcher can definitely piece things together before happening, but they are never obvious, and remember any theory that's to crazy to be true is most likely true except for Eren`s mom being the female titan, but fellow AoT watchers if you know you know 😉
There is a huge downside to it being a puzzle. Because if you miss a piece or lose track, which can easily happen with a series of this size, you will just end up being confused.
The best way I found to enjoy this series is to pay attention to when either Erwin or Armin is talking. They try to catch you up with all the clues you might have gotten or missed.
Definitely a show that if you rewatch it, you'll appreciate it more.
Then what was the "flaming" marks and heat coming from Eren in this episode and "randomly" saying "I am free, I will destroy the entire world"? The fans used to masterfully explain that (especially in AOE/MuvLuv theory), then the story ended and no official explanation came out. In the end it was just "artistic choice" to make the scene cooler. Shame.
The hype from THIS just raises my anticipation for a certain later episode IYKYK

The Oak shouting and wanting the next episode immediately was fantastic. First season isn't even done and I have the feeling that the later seasons are going to get him even more wound up.
The story is that good that a grown man with no history of watching anime is so invested that he is raging and wanting more.

Annie was Eren's martial arts teacher, in the manga they got really close, and he may have had a bit of a hero crush on her.
Man I just binged this show for the first time this year too (like stay up until 3 am on a workday binging, it was bad) and I can confidently say it is one of the best things I have ever seen. I don't even like anime in general and I think this rises to compete with some of my favourite live action shows. So excited for you guys to see what comes next and for your questions to get answered, because they will be! There's a reason for everything, so strap in.
When I first saw the reveal about Annie being a Female Titan I was so mad because it was obvious but I didn't get it! The hair, the eyes, the fighting style.
But still, it's very sad Levi isn't the Female Titan

This show you have to pay attention to EVERY detail because everything is laid out and almost obvious on a rewatch
Just to help because I think this might not be fully understood, is the location of the characters in comparison to the basement. If you look up "wall map aot" it will pop up, but the outer district Shiganshina is where the basement is. The gate to that district and the gate to Wall Maria (the outermost wall) were both broken down, meaning that all of Shiganshina and the land between Wall Maria and Wall Rose (the middle wall) have been overrun by titans. Then five years later the gate to the Trost district was broken down pushing everyone behind Wall Rose. They first took over Trost when Eren put the bolder back and now with that last expedition, they were in the land between Wall Rose and Wall Maria. So in order to get to the basement they have to get all the way back to Shiganshina and as you can see there are a lot of titans. I hope this helped!! :)
The highest testament to the quality of these episodes is Oak. Normally he can contain his enjoyment but couldn’t be contained which reminds me of exactly how I felt on my first watch. Subbing to the patreon now cause I can’t wait for more reactions
Oak continues to be my favorite of the group. Love how hyped he gets in these reactions. Of all the reactors here he seems to have his emotions on his sleeve the most, which I love seeing from reactors in general.
When those information post show up, dont be shy to pause to read it. Sometimes they will show clarity when its related to whatever is mentioned in the same episode.
I think they don't pause during filming their reaction to not mess up the sync. I'm sure they go back.

They weren't the closes buddies ever, but they were definitely closer than just classmates, and they respected/appreciated each other's principles on things. And the 104th is also known to be very close knit like a family.

Imagine waiting years after this episode. I started it in middle school and finished it at 22. I grew up with this show.
Totally no worries for not remembering who Annie was. When I first got into anime it was very hard for me to recognize and differentiate characters. Annie was the one that kicked Erin’s ass in combat training, and actually in the fight that they had as titans, right before she kicks his head off, Erin recognizes her stance and starts to say her name. Bunch of cool details in there.
