What is really irritating is that basically all these fails could be avoided if these people would just bother to spend 30min a week doing some ground handling and would wait for the wing to be airborne before sitting in. On a more demanding takeoff there would have been several injuries.
exactly mate. Bloody danger to anyone round them and I can't get why no one is saying to them to ''please don't attempt to fly until you get the basics of how your kit operates.

if you see pilots taking off with brakes pulled and landing in the same way...not even checking the wing when its over their head...its not about wind or wing but its about not haveing the skills (and take offs and landings are the most dangerous moment)...i cant' really blame them but maybe who gave them the permission to fly ;) i hope they will always have good luck and they wont hurt theirselfe or anybody else...but they should really take some lesson for this 2 important things

Most entertaining paragliding video I have ever seen! Some friendly advice: Takeoff: Do not retract gear before fully airborne. Keep even and maximum acceleration until fully airborne. Landing: Keep the approach as stable and straight as possible. Lower your gear in good time before landing. Land into the wind. And generally, pitch control is important. Just my two cents. :-)
Ich bin nie Gleitschirm geflogen, aber habe schon 30 Videos gesehen, bin also Experte ☺. Haben die Leute alle einen Flugschein? Anfänger lässt man doch nicht auf gut Glück dem Schirm vorraus den Hang ruter hüpfen. Aber Leute mit nem Schein würden doch nicht so oft eine Po-landung machen, oder wissen, wie man am Hang startet. Überall wird in Lehrvideos gesagt, vor dem Landen rechtzeitig die Hüfte nach vorn schieben und aus dem Sitz raus, und die Bremse nicht mehr lösen. Ich kenne die Hintergründe der Veranstaltung nicht, steht auch nichts in der Beschreibung, aber das kommt mir komisch vor. Das ist wie ein Verkehrsübungsplatz für Leute ohne Flugausbildung.
Die, die dort fliegen, haben alle eine FLugaubildung - und diese auch meistens schon recht lang... Allerdings ist Kössen zu "Testival-"Zeiten tatsächlich ein bisschen "Verkehrsübungsplatz", da das Testival genau dafür gedacht ist - neue Ausrüstung (Schiirm, Gurtzeug etc. pp.) zu testen - d.h. von den Piloten fliegt keiner mit gewohntem Equipment und die wenigsten auf gewohntem Gelände, dafür prüfen sie die Reaktionen der Schirme zu unterschiedlichsten Bedingungen - noch dazu kommt in Kössen eine strikt vorgegebene Landeeeinteilung hinzu, die auch bei gewohntem Eqquipment schon den ein oder anderen ins Trudeln gebracht hat...

Das Problem ist ja das mein keine Mindestflugzeit pro Jahr benötigt, wie bei anderen Flugsportarten. Oft sind das Leute die mal im Urlaub den Gleitschirm rausholen und das seit 6 Monaten nicht mehr gemacht haben.

Airddicted, could you please explain the "background" because especially on the landings there seems to be an appalling lack of basic skills. Why are they all landing on their backsides?
Sure, there are some people who are very skilled pilots but only had bad luck. Strong wind and a glider you don't know can be very difficult to handle, so it would be unfair to blame a pilot only seeing 5 seconds of him.
You're absolutely right, the amount of fails indicates some of them are really bad pilots ;-). This video is primary just for fun, so my intention of the notice is just a little reminder that nobody is perfect.
I seems they have some kind of similar training flaw. I am not saying the wind or different wings are not responsible for some crashes but most of the pilots are not even trying to get into the landing position. It is the same mistake in most of the landing "gigs" so I highly doubt this is an accidental occurence.
In your other videos from previous years this landing "technique" is used most of the time...
I've seen injured or older pilots use the butt-slide landing technique as it minimizes the impact on the body. I've done it once myself when I had an injured knee. Some of the people in this video are doing downwind landings -- must have been switchy wind or maybe because of traffic they couldn't line up to land upwind. Trying to run out a downwind landing at 50+km/h is just not going to work, so might as well just slide it in...
This is no fun for me, this is just terrifying. There could be many injuries. I as a beginner don't understand why so many people do same mistakes? Is this some basic pg course? I am scared to go there and be hurt by some of these pilots raining from the sky...

I'm going to assume they are getting quite a bit of rotor from those trees upwind... there is enough wind for that and too few good landings for it not to be :)
Vor der Landung nicht aus dem Gurtzeug zu steigen ist irgendwie so wie zu versuchen, ein Flugzeug mit eingefahrenen Fahrwerk zu landen. Es schaut nicht besonders gut aus oder ist schmerzhaft oder beides.

Do they not teach pilots to put their feet down for landing in Austria? I saw almost no pilots lean forward in their harness with their feet down. Weird...
Sometimes it is good to remember the basics : you can pilot your wing in standup position. You don't need to jump inside your harness before your wing start to fly neither you have to wait to be on the ground to take out your legs.
Die Hälfte der Landungen wäre ohne Arsch-Boden-Kontakt gewesen, hätten sich die Piloten nur ein paar Sekunden vorher im Gurtzeug aufgerichtet...

The pilot on 10:33 had more luck than brain. The Glider allready beginns with an frontcollapse and the pilot dont reacts.... omg!

Agree! In my opinion this pilot won the first price for "crazy landing". That was luck in it`s purest form. "Hmmm... think I do a high speed downwind approach at low altitude, and then do a sharp 180 degree turn, let go of the brakes and see what happens...... Never mind pitch control.

Okay... I've had never heard of this event, so it makes more sens for me to know the pilots aren't flying with their usual equipment... But I can't find reasons for these painfull landings... Are they practicing for accuracy landing?

Let's not talk about the background (it's really nice there)...only about the pilots. I don't know if it is a rule there to land on your ass or it is a new technique.
No. 1. Not all, but a lot of this pilots don't have the basic skills of ground handling so they are in real danger when they want to take-off. You would want to wait for the wing to be airborne and then sit in...so to not jump like a rabbit in the grass :))) like this folks do.
No. 2. When you want to land you better assume the position for landing and slowly commence braking the wing.
2. B. The people who landed on their feet have the "fluffy legs syndrome" :))) a little proprioception training or general physical management would do great.
No.3 You are never to experienced for some ground handling.
No.4 Their flight instructor is purely irresponsible.

Funny?... These people should be stopped from even getting off the ground until they can naturally cope with their wing. I would have made sure none of them would be in the air at the same time as I was. Down right dangerous on the ground.. lethal in the air with that level of incompetence.

wenn ich bei unserem, auch stark frequentierten Fluggebiet die Starts und Landungen zusehe, so müsste ich wahrscheinlich 1 Monat lang filmen um nur annähernd diese Quote von schlecht startenden und noch schlechter landenden Piloten zu erwischen. Und von so einem freien grossen Landegelände mal abgesehen... ich hoffe die Schulung ist abgeschlossen. Mag aber auch sein, dass diese Piloten nicht sehr oft fliegen..
I feel like most of these fails stem from two things: 1) so many of them are FOAMING AT THE MOUTH to get into the air and just rush the entire the launch procedure. 2) In many cases this is made worse by weak or rusty ground handling skills.

Zuerst mal: Jeder hat schon einen unglücklichen Start oder Landung hin gelegt. Und bei den tausenden Starts beim Testival kann natürlich so ein Filmchen raus kommen. Heisst ja nicht dass die immer so Starten und Landen.
Hmm, komisch, aber sollte der Grundkurs nicht erst mal im Tal auf der flachen Wiese üben bevors auf den Berg geht?

All these errors show almost zero ground handling practice before coming to the site. I'm not sure if it is courage or stupidity.
I was there, but I can't see myselft during the video ... I think this is a good thing :) It was amazing, I will be there on 2017 too. Thanks for the manufacturers for this great opportunity.

Was manche Flugschulen abliefern ist schon Grotten schlecht.
Sehr gute Demo vieler miserabler Landungen, da besteht erheblicher Trainingsbedarf. Es spiegelt gut die allgemein vorhandene Situation.
Diese gezeigt Unfähigkeit sollte die Ausbildungbetriebe alarmieren was sie an den Auszubildenden abliefern.

die flugschulen bringen dem verband die neuen kunden....

Das mit dem Würfel ist dieses vielbeschriebene Hindernisproblem. Wenn man sich auf was versteift, fliegt man dagegen. Oder vielleicht hat es manchen auch einfach Spaß gemacht. Gibt auf jeden Fall wesentlich schlimmere Landungen in dem Video.

Where the fuck did these people learn to fly? I always thought the paragliding exam in Switzerland was wasted but there are so many people here who have no feeling for the wing at all and prefer to land on their asses instead of their feet that they should be banned from our sport until doing some proper training.
Before teaching others....learn to read a map: Kössen is in Austria, not Switzerland!

The Video is a little bit long. The best outtakes packed in a 5 to max 10 min would be more enjoyable. Still great work, keep it up :)
thank you for your feedback, it was a hard decission for me what to do with so many clips, i think next time i will do it shorter or at least do more parts(maybe takoff and landing separated) :-)
I'm fine with all the bloopers a few wouldn't show the true picture of just how many people had less than ideal landings, it's a truer picture. I'm for a longer video

Everybody has been a beginner at some point, that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is seeing pilots having no basic knowledge of how to control a wing and pulling off those shenanigans with a high-end B glider over their heads!!! That is just plain stupid...

Schön dass es dir gefällt ;-) Hellsehen kann ich leider nicht. Manchmal kommt es vor dass man am Flugstil schon erkennen kann ob derjenige ein "Kandidat" ist, meistens jedoch hilft einfach nur möglichst jede Landung zu filmen. Gelegentlich hatte ich um mich herum auch diverse "Helfer" mit Hinweisen wie "den musst du filmen" oder "der könnt was sein"... :-D Bin ja aber auch auf der Jagd nach "gelungenen" Landungen. Am Ende waren es etwa 8 1/2 Stunden Videomaterial von den 4 Tagen :-)
Dann war ich 2 mal "Kandidat" :-))))

Man darf auch nicht vergessen, daß an diesem Tag praktisch alle Piloten mit Testschirmen unterwegs sind und sich diese gerne mal deutlich im Handling vom gewohnten Schirm unterscheiden.
Don´t forget, most of the pilots fly with unknown gliders in this video
Allerdings sieht man in Kössen diese Starts und Landungen auch an normalen Tagen immer wieder...
Allerdings ist es egal ob Kössen oder Basano oder Meduno, überall wo ein Flughotspot ist und die Flugfrequnz hoch genug wird es zu solchen Szenen kommen.
Soll das eine Entschuldigung für die unterirdische Technik sein, die hier manche an den Tag legen? Alleine beim Endanflug mal irgendwie aus dem Gurtzeug rauszukommen liegt jetzt erstmal nicht am Schirm und ist ungefähr 90% der Landungen der vorwiegende Fehler. Und mal mit ein bisschen Ruhe in den Start zu gehen und nicht unbedingt bei 0 Wind rückwärts rauszuwollen liegt auch eher an der Vorbereitung. Ich glaube hier ist tatsächlich nur selten der Schirm Schuld.
