  • Super Takumar 1:1.4/50 Optical difference between the 8 element and 7 element version.
In this video I will show how different the Super Takumar 1:1.4/50 is if we look into the Optical assembly, between the older 8 element, and the newer 7 element version, and there is actually many difference, much more than I would think of. Both lenses are in a good shape, so I will not do any cleaning or disassemble any other parts, but only working with the optical assembly.
REMEMBER: When takin the lens assembly apart, set small arrows on the edge on some of the lens elements, just so you will know the correct oriantation of the lens element

I love that you just took two lenses apart (apparently twice - a dry run and again on camera) for no practical reason except curiosity

The 7 element's rear element is radioactive, "thorium" hence the yellowing. Harmless unless you eat it, sleep with it, or drop it and it breaks open. Thanks for another great video.. I've learned tons from your channel in the past years, appreciate you man.

The 8-element version is also radioactive, but a fraction of the level of the 7-element version; barely more than background radiation levels. The 7-element version is a lot more radioactive, explaining the difference in discolouration (rather than discolouration being absent in the 8-element version).

I have a 8 element lens mint except the very first outer element someone cleaned it too hard. Can I just switch the first single glass with a clean one from a 7 element lens I have also. They looked same

Why did you go through all this and not show the effects on the images? Like Photos? You qualify as a tech geek for sure.

      I think it would be 14 lens elements in 2 groups...... :-) :-) :-) ;-) ;-) Or so...

A big mistake. 7 lenses can not be more effective than 8 lenses
