Two other things to try: 1) changing the display resolution by right clicking your linux/ubuntu desktop and selecting "display settings" and then picking the one that works best and 2) turning off the VM and increasing the video memory allocation of virtualbox from 1-2MB (default) in virtualbox to its max (128MB for my computer)
This was helpful. Only part that had me running in circles is that the CD did not run automatically. After inserting the Guest Additions CD I had to manually run ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run on the command line. Don't know why, but this kind of thing happens to me all the time where my computer behaves differently from the tutorial. So frustrating.
Worked fine, except for the fact I had to run the installer via bash in the command line, it would not autorun when I followed the instructions. I wonder why this monitor size issue happens in Ubuntu, but not other distros. I installed kali in the virtualbox at the same time and I had no screen size issues, only on Ubuntu.
I followed the video and it was working for a while but when I opened the VM again the screen is only on the top left and 75% of the screen is black, mouse scroll also does not work.
I'm with you all the way to devices,, insert guest additions CD image. I do see the DVD on left wall but it never gives me the run option. I get a popup saying unable to insert the virtual optical disk.... I hope ppl at ubuntu see this, you are NOT impressing a windows user to your OS.
if this doesn't work for you, try this option: 1. open your terminal 2. tap this command : cd Desktop/ 3. tap the command : cd /media/ 4. tap the command : cd " the name you have chosen for your system "/ 5. tap the command : ls (this will show you the folder containing your file) 6. tap the command : cd VBox_GAs_6.1.34/ 7. to execute the last step you must be an administrator, use the command : sudo su 8.tap : ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run 9.restart your session and enjoy the full screen i hope that this will help you

in this case, open the disk (will open a file manager), right click < open in a terminal, and then manually run sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
@@RoboticsBackEnd It says command not found
