      If you want a cheap job then follow this. The reason you spend a lot with a professional is 1) the entire wheel back & front will be sand blasted, 2) all blemishes removed, 3) filled as required, 4) powder coated several times & baked hard, 5) several coats of heavy duty lacquer.
      You always get what you pay for.

    People trying to chime in by adding their own backhand compliments and slidding them criticism in, we see you, you ain't slick.
    This dude did a good job and you know what? it didn't require painting, just sprayed clear to protect and that's it!

    • @CatacombKidd
      @CatacombKidd 5 років тому

      That’s all well and good. I suppose I’ll be one of them and add a comment that you might find slighted and back handed, but will only help other people trying this... He never cleaned the surface before painting. Not to mention, just before the scuffing, he used a polishing compound. That stuff sticks around a long while, and paint isn’t going to adhere well to it. Acetone, mineral spirits, even rubbing alcohol. Just oils from your hands alone can contaminate a paint job. Have to clean it before applying paint. Looks decent now, but unfortunately, his clear is going to be chipping and peeling in no time at all. Maybe he did but didn’t show it, or said he did, and I didn’t catch it...

    • @hamzak4730
      @hamzak4730 4 роки тому

      CatacombKidd I’m going to attempt this. Not sure about the clear coat though. Is it absolutely necessary to use it? As there are quite a few diamond cut touch up videos on UA-cam which don’t use clear coat... thanks

I managed to kerb one alloy few weeks ago. Well my repair came out superb. You can't even notice where it was now. I used scholl s20 black Polish after 2000 grit wet sanding. Many thanks 👌👌👌👌

    I used to do this as a profession, good tips on a DIY repair, these wheels originally were a matt finish, to remove that shiny line between the old lacquer and new repair, mask off the coloured section around where you have polished, give it a light scotching with the grey scotch bright and spray a light Layer of 94 silver until the line disappears, then to the untrained eye after you lacquer you really won't be able to tell. These were the best wheels to work on

    • @dannypearson6815
      @dannypearson6815 2 роки тому +1

      @@jacksonloomer5774 We used to use colourtone 94 silver, I'm assuming it should be a standard colour code? Just a light spray from the outside feathering towards this inside, whilst lay flat it is quite obvious to see but once on the vehicle lacquered (especially on matt lacquer wheels) its hardly noticeable, especially to the untrained eye

Just two things please, can i not just use my DA sander instead of a drill? and I struggle to find such high grit discs, they all tend to only go up to 240. looks good, worth baring in mind as I have been window shopping for an audi a3 preferably with the same rotor wheels fitted and have yet to see one with an unmarked set and these wheels dont look as good when powder coated a single colour. It helps on these particular wheels that the machine polished parts sit out prominent from the painted parts so as to avoid damaging the painted bits.

    I just paid a hefty price to have my 2019 Audi 3 rims repaired, but it was worth it. Mad4Motors, please tell us that you use a respirator while applying clear coat! Love the accent and your video

    Very helpful and ifs you are just doing one time it’s ok for 2/3 years then you give them to specialists to repair how long it’s take you to do 4 of them how much time it’s take

    For small edge such as that wheel edge and unable or unwilling to remove the tire, might I suggest heading over to the "ladies department" and getting a fingernail salon acrylic drill that comes with hundreds of sanding pieces? The acrylic fingernail drill head top is bare so there is nothing to sand the tire. Just an idea if one doesn't want to damage their tires, not sure how time consuming, but I do know the more powerful nail drills have more than enough umph (amps) to get the job done. Also, these drills are used for dog grooming which may or may not be more powerful.
    Playing cards can be kind of expensive, but paper index cards are not. They are also a tad longer than playing cards. Course when I get around to this, I have an old, thick, clear plastic shower curtain I will place over tire, tuck edges of curtain under tire to hold it in place then cut a hole out of it about an inch smaller than wheel (rim) and then tuck hole edge into where you placed the cards with a small $1, 1-3in plastic putty scrapper. Reusable and less time consuming.
    Again love that accent =)

    Great video as always, I have to do all 4 of the same wheel on my Mrs car as she just loves kerbs😮. Is there an average time per wheel this would take? I appreciate the amount of damage per wheel will vary. I am wondering how many hours for all 4 wheels before I start? Thanks
