Just because you see these cars failing on the TRACK, doesn't mean every R35 has reliability issues. All of these cars were heavily tuned with aftermarket parts.
It's important to remember though that the RB's were around for more than a decade. The GTR's motor (is it the VG? I cant remember) isnt as well developed yet. There are fewer around, too - remember that RB's showed up in everything Nissan made back then in NA and Turbo form. There were tons of people tuning and working on those motors every day. Now, there's only a few elite tuninghouses that are able to seriously tune the GTR.
These are highly tuned cars meant to go 300kph+ They are not even fully built and prepared race cars, of course reliability is in question. Damn impressive for street based cars.
i think the tire's use for GT-R's have grooves to avoid them from separating off the rims or it think it was the rims. Can't remember well exactly but it was explained by Jeremy on Top Gear when he was testing the car alone on his day off at Fuji Speed way it shudtil be on their YTchannel. Also mostly if the tires fail or gets rip off, only the first layer gets rip off designed to avoid further damage to the car unless if the whole tire with rims itself gets rip off like the video xDD
Nissan entered an alliance with Renault S.A. of France. Not bought! President and Chief Operating Officer is still a Japanese. Design and test is Japanese. But Ghosn has done a great job, Mr. Fix it!
those gtr's are being tuned by individual team's on the video to make it go real fast on Fuji Circuit. With Tuning its either you got the correct one' or not. And alot of them on the video did not do a good job on Tuning them hence, the failure's seen on the video alot of engine overheating, oversteer, understeer etc., whilst some who perfected their Tuning won.
That's debatable... because most part of the technology developed in older engines is ported to the new engines... The bigest power creators like, turbos, intercoolers, injectors, cylinder materials, etc, all of them is technology that is carried over, to the newer engines... And the R33 JUN 1000hp car, was pretty new at the time, i guess the R34 wasn't even realeased The thing is... those iron inline 6, and those heavy duty transmitions, were made to much higher tolerances than today alloys
You do realise they are translating it. It doesn't come from Japan pre translated into English so that takes time. This being part 1 of 12 they would rather have an ep out and i guess get more views too
Take a look again, the lugs didn't fail, his wheel STUDS broke off. You can't blame the lightweight aluminum lugs for the failure of the steel wheel studs.
It was aluminum lugs n studs mostlikely I had a set of spacers I threw on my drift car n forgot my buddy who gave them to me said to change out the lugs for steel I did multiple 60mph entries n was daily driving it n was surprised they even lasted 2months of hard hard driving
I dont think so, the Mclaren F1 from the 90's hadnt that kind of spoiler, it had a small electric hidden spoiler and it did 386kmph, same with the Veyron, when you turn the key to maximum speed the car's ride height is lower and the hugh rear spoiler goes down for 407kmph, same with the Mp4-12c LFA CarreraGT SLR SLS 911Turbo Aventador The more downforce you have more power you need, the more power you have the more stressed the engine is, and the chances of failure are critical, like the video.
I know... but those toyota Supras and nissan Skylines from the 90's, pulled more power than the R35 wich has 3.8l, the skylines had 2.6L and 3.0L, but they seem to hold 1000+hp much better... Top gear even reviewed a JUN tuned R34with 1000hp, that since it was built (3 years ago at the time) it never broke down... And there are plenty of daily driven supras and skylines holding more than 800hp with impressive reliability... nut they also are iron blocks, the R35 isn't
I agree that ALPHA have done an amazing job with the R35 but saying Japanese tuners are essentially shit is sacrilege, I mean come on man, HKS are like genesis for all Japanese modifiers.
Its not reliable because its not stock or tuned by shop/Nissan. Its a owner tuned car. Of course there are going to errors or break downs. Tuning car is all about trial and error.
running the wrong offsets on the wheels is why STUDS fail like that! because they either run Spacers or put washers on the studs to push the wheels out further, which means they are like an angle grinder. as the wheel turns the washers dont. its only a matter of time till you get a failure like this!
I like how the Top Secret car comes right out and breaks the record right off.
No one can mess with Smokey! Top Secret #1 Tuner! After all, he is the Wangan C1 highway king!!!
i can only imagine the "stress factor" those axles go through in order to rip the lugs off a wheel... and honestly my respect to the tires as well...
Thanks for the video, GT Channel! Excellent as always. :D
7:33 the way that one sounds and looks, reminds me of the SLS AMG Gullwing.
I saw this in a movie once. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla vs Mechagodzilla vs Mechagodzilla etc. Awesome.
such skill from the guy that was able to hold the car when the wheel came off
imagine the sick tuned toyota gt86's they have in japan WOW
let alone the GTR's !
haha "I still had three wheels left"
im sure they aint all nice but from what ive seen so far the japanese are just so respectful to each other
amazing footage !
Tire Blew off Skyline...rich people problems
great vid!
Awesome vid

The last guy was incredibly nice
cant wait for next part.
just one observation... if they are looking for a speed record why are using those bigass spoilers at the rear?
Love the hks body kit, but wheres the ams or hennessey edition
I suggest the use of titanium lug nuts for this type of application

Please share what lug nuts were used here.
Seemed like he was considering driving it back to the pits like that.. I was yelling stop too
this drama better not be fake >_>
Nissan entered an alliance with Renault S.A. of France. Not bought! President and Chief Operating Officer is still a Japanese. Design and test is Japanese. But Ghosn has done a great job, Mr. Fix it!
did nt expect that from HKS and Kansai..
Thanks.
@audioamateur The tires have a groove on them that will "hold on" to the rim
Absolutely...
this track is dangerous.
2:22 sanic go fast

someone has been investing in Ebay spec turbos it seems!
mayb straight line topspeed, but as motortrend shown ams hates corners ;)
Kinda wish AMS would've brought one of their beasts there...
@pauliazz94 the tires have that groove
TOP SECRET is the king of tuners
And the failure of aftermarket turbos is related to the platform's reliability how?
japanese build quality at its finest.
those are also heavily modified GTRs and i wouldn't be surprised if the turbos were after market
That's debatable... because most part of the technology developed in older engines is ported to the new engines... The bigest power creators like, turbos, intercoolers, injectors, cylinder materials, etc, all of them is technology that is carried over, to the newer engines...

Nice!
so many cars on dispray
R35 is so u reliable. Still RB26 is bullet proof!
Dang....just did not seem like it was the R35's day that day.
Awww man!!! I was hoping to see the rest of it!!! Wtf GTchannel!!! You guys barely upload new videos, and now you leave us like this!!?? C'Mon!!! 8^\
Smokey's GTR was the only one alive!
9:32 - if they sheared where did they go? Looks like they came out rather than sheared. Next time tighten them up.
Why do they all have such small engine output? Wouldnät it be better to have 1200 or more since it's a top speed straight?
awesome :D

AMS says hello. Cute cars though guys. LOL
Smokey Nagata is here!
9:48 PEEK A BOO!! 2JZ SUPRA
think i'll go tighten my wheelnuts.
:-D haha those japanese guys know how to make jokes....
i nearly died, but it was hilarious at the end :-D
so true...
@kewl10mac yeah....i figured that to man. I guess we will wait a few days, maybe a week or so to see the outcome! Peace dude. 8^}
Why is it always fkin raining the day a car event is organised
a lot of kids comenting about straight speed....but this is a tiem atack show....so its not about pure straight run ....learn somthing
8:35 thats a recovery
Damn can they make one that will atleast finish without blowing up, ,
I love the Japanese
what a bad day for the HKS team.
Yeah baby.
Brutál
so, 5 cars started, 2 Turbos blown and one lost a wheel ?!? omg
リカバリー上手すぎw
Who the hell are they buying their parts from?
man i miss best motoring
Unless you've got a high horse power car and considering to go on a track or try to do what these guys are doing, you should be fine.
lo mejor de japon. de chile
NOW THAT DEFINES JAPANESE MUSCLES

9:00 I LOLD :D
it's a mystery to me how those tires don't just rip off of the rims
bad turbocharger in GTR35?
wait a minute!! Smokey Nagata?.

half of them broke or fell appart. i guess when youre dealing with up to 1000hp it happens often lmao
GT "R" Channel....
Wow!!
I literally just ordered aluminum lugs...
I agree that ALPHA have done an amazing job with the R35 but saying Japanese tuners are essentially shit is sacrilege, I mean come on man, HKS are like genesis for all Japanese modifiers.
Japanese = respect
so fast
says the guy who likes Britney Spears and Beyonce videos lol
Its not reliable because its not stock or tuned by shop/Nissan.
Its a owner tuned car.
Of course there are going to errors or break downs.
Tuning car is all about trial and error.
These guys need to get better turbos lol.
Only in the straights...
What the hell is happened? I always thought that "Japanese tings" mean max reliability and here 2 cars are broken down!!
Lol drift on 3 wheels born a pro driver
woooo smokey is outta UK jail :P
Whoa! 1:46...
LOL, next time use some aircraft quality spec titanium bolts.

note to self: don't buy lightweight lugnuts
Smokey Da boss
since the French, bought a nissan ...
