4. INDICATION OF FAST ACTIONS. Function number four will help us to show to show actions that happen right now really fast. For example: ♦ He asks for forgiveness right away./ He immediately asks for forgiveness. Он сразу же просит прощение. On srazu zhe prosit proshcheniye. Сразу [Srazu]= at once/immediately Сразу же = right away Therefore [Же /zhe/] helps emphasizing the rapidity, fastness and shortness of period that things get done. Another example: ♦ Right at the first lesson we started learning grammar. На первом же уроке мы начали изучать грамматику. Na pervam zhe uroke my nachali izuchat' grammatiku. So again I'm showing the shortness of this period of time, which is probably not expected to learn grammar at the first lesson. So I'm emphasizing that this is not expected really; that's way too short over time. ★ Another example of uncommon but useful function is: [You can still use it in your speech, even though it is not very common] ♦ Victor is working.
