- A very rare performance, from the pilot from the never-produced "Jerry Lee Lewis Show"--the only time Jackie Wilson ever sang this old gospel classic. His version is characteristically uplifting.
He was a versatile singer! Also he was a good gospel singer!
You're very welcome. It's the most upbeat version of this song I've heard, and I wish Jackie had made a studio version.
When Jackie passed away he was taken right back to his roots the Russell Street Baptist Church where he worshipped as a child singing with his Mom every Sunday. Rest in peace Jackie and mama Eliza Wilson. Tammy
Truly one of the most talented rock and roll and rhythm and blues artists of all time....too bad Jackie Wilson wasn't able to do a longer live version of " I'll Fly Away "...one minute of such a great talent is never enough....and his shortened life was a very sad and tragic ending for such a wonderful and gifted artist .
With all of the so-called docu-drama movies (Ray, La-Bamba, Lyman, Dream Girls, etc) they've made over the past twenty-five years, I fail to understand why a movie has yet to be to be made with an unbelieveable story, about an unbelieveable talent, with an unbelieveable voice, wrapped up in an unbelieveable tradgedy no screen write could ever devise. WHY NOT? For all the money Gordy made off of Wilson, HE (alone) should do it. Or maybe Nate Tarnabaums family? RIP great one!
I love this song so much, I constantly playing it over and over!!!
for him its so effortless- just a little diddy true great
the performance was short, but sweet, and spiritually fulfilling
In a league of his own !!
Thanks also for posting this clip, coincidently i just recently purchased that Jerry Lee Lewis DVD with Jackie Wilson as guest, i was lucky to find one copy left !
Love, Jackie he was a great singer i wish i could hear him sing this song completely beautiful song and sad when I think of him. Tammy.
This is so great. Let there be no debate!
Love this a lot
Fly away with Jackie Wilson!!!
@Specialdark23
Very true! Jackie even did a gospel album with Linda Hopkins called "Shake a Hand." It was released on CD a few years ago and is now a bit hard to find, but worth it.

@kuropixie Though Jackie died in 1984, he never sang a word after 1975. For the whole sad story, see his article on wikipedia.
I am tired of the same old format the wikipedia give, how about the truth.
Yes, he was, long distance from way up yonder.
Awesome!!

Soli Deo Gloria
It wasn't professing his religion that had him do gospel songs. Jackie was Jewish...
