I watch many war mapping channels and I must say THETI mapping seems to have the most up to date changes and in depth explanations of the daily battles. Keeping all these events updated and documented is very tedious work. Phenomenal job THETI. True journalism.

Russia has forced Kiev to choose between losing men or territory, according to retired French General Jerome Pellistrandi, the editor-in-chief of the Revue Defense Nationale. In an interview for the French outlet La Depeche published on Wednesday, Pellistrandi pointed out that Russian forces have made advances ever since the Ukrainians’ chaotic retreat from Avdeevka in mid-February, and are now approaching Chasov Yar and Kharkov.
“Russian Armed Forces has in fact presented a tactical dilemma to the Ukrainian command, forcing it to choose between protecting territory at the risk of taking significant losses, or retreating and thus giving up ground,” Pellistrandi said.
In addition to advances west of Avdeevka, Russian troops recently took the town of Krasnoe (known in Ukraine as Ivanivske), west of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut), the general noted.
“This reflects this desire to exhaust the enemy,” he said. “Russia knows very well that Kiev lacks [artillery] shells and, by relentlessly shelling these territories, [President Vladimir] Putin is ultimately preventing the Ukrainians from rebuilding their defenses. This is a way of forcing them to give up ground and exhaust their stock of weapons.”
According to Pellistrandi, Russian troops are aiming for both Chasov Yar and Kramatorsk, a key crossroads for Ukrainian logistics in Donbass. Its loss would be “dramatic” for Kiev and pose “serious strategic and logistical difficulties,” he said.
Kharkov also came under heavy bombardment last week, Pellistrandi said, adding that Ukraine is on the defensive along the entire front and urgently needs more ammunition.

before their summer offensive - UAF was "offensive-capable" - probably to a similar extent that brought them lyman-izium
the alternative to the summer-offensive would have been a flexible-defense - forcing russia to keep their defenses fully-manned containing the UAF "offensive-capability"
the question now could be whether UAF has already lost its relevant offensive-capability ->
and therefore the problem for ukraine may be worser than loosing-soldiers or loosing-territory
... somehow similar to the germans pushed into defending-only after zitadelle/Kursk
if russia has the ressources to advance with superior firepower on multiple quick-built-defense-lines
ukraine may loose both - men & territory
... but kiev still has the "luxury" of shelling belgorod+ instead of using this fire-power onto the russian advances -
for this satisfaction the UAF front troops pay an additional price

I am shocked a French General that actually makes sense!!. This is exactly what the Russians are doing. Unfortunately, in the West, there is too much belief in Ukrainian propaganda, it is the Russians that are suffering hundred of thousands of casualties and will cause social upheaval when Putin enforces mobilization. In fact, this story applies to Ukraine NOT Russia. Just look at the difficulties, Kyiv Rada is getting in passing the desperately needed mobilization law, and they have just cancelled the demobilization law..
Personally, I predict that Ukraine will dissolve into a bloody civil war between the hard nationalists and the peace party..

Stop talking nonsense. NATO Facts: Population 1Billion
3.5 million soldiers, not including potential conscription.
      10,000 Tanks
      9000 Aircraft
      7000 helicopters
And a 100 trillion GDP total economy.
Russia 2 years later still fighting and mostly losing against a country one third its size, being supplied with the minimum in obsolete Western equipment and NO Nato troops.
Russia is way, way over its head and is awakening the sleeping giant that is the West/Nato.
Russia keep tight hold of those nukes without them you're a tadpole up against a shark.
The only thing saving Russia are those nukes and the fact that the Western population does not care about Russia, it does not even register in most people's minds because it's so unimportant in their day to day lives. But when it starts threatening the West with Nukes you will get a reaction the same way a bully gets a reaction, he gets away with it for a bit until someone bigger and stronger steps in and teaches them a lesson. We are approaching that stage where the bully will soon learn that it's time for punishment.

The two advantages of advancing along a river valley is that its banks can be steep enough to block insight from surrounding heights beyond the immediate crest that might be dominated by fire power. And that they are generally more forested to provide camoflage and some protection. The muddy season is however worse and longer down there where the melting water gathers.
The bad place to find oneself in is on the lower side of a gently sloping open landscape. If Russia continues to progress towards air supremacy over Ukraine, that would open up for their ground forces using even such terrain to a greater extent by suppressing enemies anywhere.
I remember an impressively wide valley in southern Poland where countless square kilometers of land were in direct sight from the floor (thousands of people could see you walking to your mailbox in the morning, no good place for paparazzi victims). In war there would be nowhere to hide outside of foilage or housing, and fire could be incoming from anywhere. Infantry and old tank or anti-tank guns here and there on those huge slopes would be as good as air supremacy.

In the 2nd world war the Nazis advanced every single day. They took town after town and city after city. The Soviet Troops retreated and took up alternative defensive lines. It looked bad but eventually the Nazi logistics became so bad and the loses so extreme that when the Nazis got to the major cities of the Soviet Union they were held and eventually defeated. We have here a repeat so similar it is uncanny. The Russian Fascist invaders are advancing, not as quickly as their brethren, Nazi Germans, but still, they are advancing very, very slowly. But the invading Russians are suffering such extreme loses in equipment and especially men that eventually they will be halted and defeated as the Ukrainians get more equipment, shells, tanks and aircraft. If they have to, the Ukrainians can recruit another 1 million men and women to defend their main cities.
If Russia think this is moving towards the end of their invasion, they are badly mistaken. This is the beginning. In the East the Russians have advanced 12 kilometers in 2 years. It has cost them their entire professional Army. At a minimum Russia has lost 350,000 troops killed and wounded. They are using tanks from the 50's because of the constant losses of equipment. Russia, even at full capacity, can only make up 10 percent of those tank loses and i don't even think they are producing artillery.
It is estimated Russia has enough old Soviet Union reserves to last between 1 and 2 years. After that, nothing. If there is one thing i understand, it is that Ukraine can easily last several more years at this level of conflict. But before then the sleeping giant of the West will have awoken. They now understand the grave threat Russia and the gangsters in the Kremlin present to the civilised world. Before the begining of June, Ukraine will have up to 2 million shells delivered. F-16 will be delivered and possibly Swedish Gripen jets. Long Range ballistic missiles are being negotiated at this moment. More tanks and artillery are being sourced. Meanwhile the Ukrainians hold back the meat waves and keep inflicting catastrophic damage on the Russian forces, they lost 47 thousand soldiers and 600 tanks and armoured vehicles just taking Avdivka. There are another 130 towns like that not including the major cities. Even if by some miracle they take Ukraine, then the insurgency starts. This will make Afghanistan look like a Childrens tea party, armed and supported by the West just over the border, it will never end. Sucking the life blood from Putin and his supporters. Permanent insurgency in Ukraine and permanent sanctions, you know they are never going to end, will destroy the Russian Federation. Afghanistan was the final straw that forced the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was a bigger, wealthier, stronger Union than the Russian Federation could ever hope to be.
Russia is finished and a few more kilometers of advancing is not going to make any difference to the final outcome.

Every thing you are saying is garbage, Ukraine has already lost the war it is just a matter of time, they are almost out of troops, they are almost out of ammo and Russia is cranking out ammo and tanks faster than all of NATO can produce. F16s won't make any difference Russia has far superior fighters than F16s. IF Ukraine does not get any more money from the US and EU the war will be over in a month.
