Supplements: their top tier+ NAC, CoQ10 (he prefers ubiquinol form over ubiquinone), vitamin E but "mixed tocotrienols" not the cheaper versions, phosphatidylcholine, (alpha lipoic acid aka "ALA"). They also mention additional specific supplements if high uric acid (quercetin, tart cherry, milk thistle) or high homocysteine (B vitamins, especially 2-6-9-12, taurine, omega-3 fatty acids. But need doses. Hopefully they will fix show notes link.

My sister died of NAFLD. It didn't look fun. Since, before she became diabetic, we had a lot of the same health things going on, I decided I needed to do something about it. CTs showed "moderate" fatty liver. So, I started Googling what I could do to get better before I had a chance of getting worse. I discovered a video I thought was too good to be true about reversing fatty liver in 17 days with intermittent fasting. More research showed that it was really possible. My previous ALT was between 18 and 22. After intermittent fasting and reducing carbs, it was

@@juliecoulston56 I never went all the way keto but, I cut back on carbs. I started fasting about a year and a half ago specifically to get myself as far as possible from NAFLD. While the fat showed up on CT, my liver tests were never awful. I just wanted to improve them as much as possible. I started watching videos by Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. William Li regarding intermittent fasting as a treatment for day liver. I can't seem to find the 17-day video but, there are others by those two and others on the same topic.
I started off doing two meals a day with nothing between meals and, eventually, went to one meal a day (OMAD), which is a lot easier than it sounds. I've been doing that for more than a year. I don't count carbs, macros or whatever. I just try to eat mostly lower carb. I really haven't lost much weight but, my liver and sugar numbers were much better when tested.
You can start with this video with Dr. Fung. ua-cam.com/video/_oBkdmsRu0Y/v-deo.htmlsi=374jMFQ8ulS53VLR
The first thing that started getting me to pay attention to all this was Sugar: The Bitter Truth, which you may have already seen. If not, settle in and watch. It's long but, worth the time.

I think seed oils are the biggest culprit. I can't imagine how else I got this condition. 🙄 Coz I really tried to eat healthy. But I do eat out and they really only use seed oils. Don't know if palm oil could be bad. That's all I've been using for many years. But to be safe, I've taken it out, along with bread & rice... and packed milk. And I am seeing significant changes in my condition. Gonna be a while to start feeling fantastic again. But I am optimistic. LCHF 80% meat, eggs and some seafood. Good oils, butter, tallow etc. Thank God for the spread of this knowledge.

I have had CFS for 28 years and NAFLD which my Drs did nothing until I found a functional medicine Dr who ordered a MTHFR gene mutation test which showed I have a a double gene mutation. This is apparently quite common 8 -18% in some populations ,but what it does is decreases your ability to detox between 40-50% and increases homocysteine levels ( which is an indicator for many diseases) increase your risk for premature vascular disease and thromboembolism. I wish I had a known this earlier as it’s very important to know

You guys are so on point. A year and a half ago I had a scan of my abdomen to look for a cause of pain in my back flank. With that they saw my liver was having issues. I had a CT that led to a conclusion of Cirrhosis. I got a second opinion that said the same. I had an MRI, Fribroscan, even a biopsy. All showed high level of fatty liver. None were absolutely conclusive, but the doctors still settled on cirrhosis. I was told I had to lose weight, cut out alcohol and certain pain meds or I would experience liver failure. I was also told that at my BMI I had an extremely low likelihood of not being able to lose enough weight on my own. I was recommended bariatric surgery and told I could possibly couple that with a liver transplant! That scared the crap out of me. I told myself that I did not want to do something that invasive unless I truly knew I had tried my hardest. I had never really tried to lose weight all that much. I went on diets from time to time, but I never exercised. I hated exercise. Up to that point I had not had enough negative consequences to take it seriously. But that scared me. I got my doctor to prescribe semiglutide and I began eating better. I bought a fantastic home gym machine and began working out. It has been a year and a half. I lost 120 pounds. The doctor had said I needed to lose 10% of my weight to make a difference. I lost 27%. Recently I had a transjugular biopsy of the inside of my liver. It also measured my portal vein pressure. I was scared sh***less for the results. The results came back that my liver was NORMAL! There was no longer signs of cirrhosis or fibrosis! Now I know I may never have really had cirrhosis, but it was bad enough for the doctors to scare me straight. I cannot believe I have a new lease on life and I'm definitely taking my life more serious. Other things are getting better. Before I couldn't get my blood pressure to a decent level. I was on 3-4 drugs and still couldn't get it consistently under 140/100. My testosterone was low. I had to take testosterone and estrogen to balance the testosterone being converted to fat. I had been having allergic reactions. Those ended. I feel better and can't believe I dodged that bullet. So for folks that are wondering it is possible to make a change. Take it seriously and you can do it!

Congratulations on losing all that weight especially since you probably got minimal to no direction from the docs on diet. A few years ago I needed to lose about 15 pounds . The functional medicine doc gave me no suggestions on diet she just said she would weigh me at every visit. Nothing much happened until I got breast cancer and found out that evening may mildly overweight increases the risk of breast cancer. Suddenly I started losing weight, 15 pounds gone. Amazing what fear can do, I decreased my portion size and stopped snacking ng on sweets.

Ok, I expect that I’m insulin resistant pre diabetic.I believe in the functional medicine approach. Insurance doesn’t pay for much there. If I pay out of pocket for the blood work. I’ve got these individualized results. Now what? How do I find a doctor that my insurance will pay for help me with my results. I live in Cleveland OH area. I have friends that went through CCF functional medicine programs, paid a lot and were not impressed. My PC doctor is all about the symptom/drug game, which I don’t play. I’m 10-15 lbs overweight. I’m 99% Mediterranean plant based. I feel like this shouldn’t be this freaking complicated. I’m not rich, but I have decent insurance. I’m trying to find a doctor my insurance will pay for at least partially. No luck so far. So frustrating.

Tbh a lot of people are too lazy to help themselves they'll never give up alcohol chocolate pizza ect, easy solution for them 16/8 or alternate day fasting, even though their diet still sucks they are at least giving their body a break so they'll be limiting damage maybe even reverse some, fasting is more powerful than any diet sometimes your body just needs a rest from food. The human body has a lot of defense systems in place to prevent things like muscle loss such as hgh which protects muscle when fasted so just learn learn to trust your body it knows exactly what its doing and it can fix itself just give it a chance to recover which is what fasting allows!

My Baby Brother is 41 and is in End Stages and I feel so helpless right now. He is 1300 miles away and we still do not know what is causing this. We just now found out they diagnosed him 2 years ago as Bipolar while treating him for elevated ammonia levels @ Laureate in Tulsa Ok (which is liver damage and should have been taken to the hospital, not the mental hospital). The doctors are just now telling him he is in the End Stages after spending 2 weeks in the hospital in the last month. He has to see a therapist while he is going through all of this and she said, "She sees no signs of Bipolar" When treating the ammonia levels he is no longer disoriented. My heart completely breaks every day for him and his kids. It is the most horrible situation. We cannot get straight answers from anyone.

I know he's the expert, but when experts are biased we end up receiving poor or incomplete information. Recommending lots of fruit because of the nutrients is just flat bad information.
