You guys are so on point. A year and a half ago I had a scan of my abdomen to look for a cause of pain in my back flank. With that they saw my liver was having issues. I had a CT that led to a conclusion of Cirrhosis. I got a second opinion that said the same. I had an MRI, Fribroscan, even a biopsy. All showed high level of fatty liver. None were absolutely conclusive, but the doctors still settled on cirrhosis. I was told I had to lose weight, cut out alcohol and certain pain meds or I would experience liver failure. I was also told that at my BMI I had an extremely low likelihood of not being able to lose enough weight on my own. I was recommended bariatric surgery and told I could possibly couple that with a liver transplant! That scared the crap out of me. I told myself that I did not want to do something that invasive unless I truly knew I had tried my hardest. I had never really tried to lose weight all that much. I went on diets from time to time, but I never exercised. I hated exercise. Up to that point I had not had enough negative consequences to take it seriously. But that scared me. I got my doctor to prescribe semiglutide and I began eating better. I bought a fantastic home gym machine and began working out. It has been a year and a half. I lost 120 pounds. The doctor had said I needed to lose 10% of my weight to make a difference. I lost 27%. Recently I had a transjugular biopsy of the inside of my liver. It also measured my portal vein pressure. I was scared sh***less for the results. The results came back that my liver was NORMAL! There was no longer signs of cirrhosis or fibrosis! Now I know I may never have really had cirrhosis, but it was bad enough for the doctors to scare me straight. I cannot believe I have a new lease on life and I'm definitely taking my life more serious. Other things are getting better. Before I couldn't get my blood pressure to a decent level. I was on 3-4 drugs and still couldn't get it consistently under 140/100. My testosterone was low. I had to take testosterone and estrogen to balance the testosterone being converted to fat. I had been having allergic reactions. Those ended. I feel better and can't believe I dodged that bullet. So for folks that are wondering it is possible to make a change. Take it seriously and you can do it!
Congratulations on losing all that weight especially since you probably got minimal to no direction from the docs on diet. A few years ago I needed to lose about 15 pounds . The functional medicine doc gave me no suggestions on diet she just said she would weigh me at every visit. After regular overnight fasting (like before breakfast or coffee) your glucose level in the blood is above 100. Inevitably the insulin is there (unless you type 2 diabetic) but it's not doing its job. High or extremely low glucose levels do damage to the entire body.

Tbh a lot of people are too lazy to help themselves they'll never give up alcohol chocolate pizza ect, easy solution for them 16/8 or alternate day fasting, even though their diet still sucks they are at least giving their body a break so they'll be limiting damage maybe even reverse some, fasting is more powerful than any diet sometimes your body just needs a rest from food. The human body has a lot of defense systems in place to prevent things like muscle loss such as hgh which protects muscle when fasted so just learn learn to trust your body it knows exactly what its doing and it can fix itself just give it a chance to recover which is what fasting allows!

The doctors are just now telling him he is in the End Stages after spending 2 weeks in the hospital in the last month. Your guest is very biased. He just couldn't bring himself to recommend the keto diet. He made several comments that showed his ignorance related to keto. I know he's the expert, but when experts are biased we end up receiving poor or incomplete information. Recommending lots of fruit because of the nutrients is just flat bad information. There was a bit of a credibility issue from the onset. I don't take financial advice from poor people.
I would disagree with your comment a bit, but only because I know Dr E personally. I am a type 1 diabetic and have thyroid disease. Dr E knows I follow a ketogenic diet and he is perfectly fine with this - he has never asked me to alter my diet. I believe his comments on Mediterranean diet refer to the reversal of fatty liver disease and the statistically significant results seen when doing so.
Anyone who really knows metabolism knows the real value of keto, but so many people have misinfornation about keto from unreliable sources .....its easier just to not recommend keto ,sometimes , because of the silly phobia some people have about it .

Nothing much happened until I got breast cancer and found out that evening may mildly overweight increases the risk of breast cancer. Suddenly I started losing weight, 15 pounds gone. Amazing what fear can do, I decreased my portion size and stopped snacking ng on sweets.
A very informative interview and discussion… thankyou.
Smart guy. Able to explain this for lay people. I am a double boarded IM/ER and I know medicine
Thank you so much this podcast was sent to me by a friend. I had labs done this summer and I do have NAFLD . Honestly, I have all the gentics for it, you know European peasent that keeps on all the weight. I learned so much I didn't know! 2 days a week I've been doing fasts and have pulled back on all things sugar, gluten or dairy. My symptoms are starting to ease up a bit. Been thinking about doing Whole 30 for awhile because you cut grain and carbs by quite a bit. That is what the podcast confirmed, cut those carbs!
Thank you for your pearls of wisdom 🤩🥰🕊🐦🔥🥰
You need to let your guests talk. You tend to take over. We know you are great and knowledgeable; therefore let your guests talk. Otherwise don’t invite anyone and just talk. And stop interrupting. It’s annoying
Thank you for this great info. Food is medicine.
This is so informative. My husband has problems with gout/uric acid, so it may be related to his liver. We need to look into this.
Please look into videos by Dr. David Perlmutter and Dr. Richard Johnsons videos on Uric Acid. They have covered this extensively. Best of luck!
Very informative podcast thank you for sharing 🙏
I love the Brian Adams look
I am presently working on my fatty liver disease with castor oil packs and vitamin E. My doctor didn’t believe it would work until he saw my last scan results that showed a marked reduction in a 1 month period. He isn’t going to recheck the scans for another 8 to 10 months since it has improved so much.
😮😮😮 wow well done. Castor oil packs are such an enigma. So many say they work, I can’t get my head around how 😂
@@waffle_chair9269 I can’t understand how but you can’t doubt actual results
@@waffle_chair9269 I also must note my skin is so hydrated and nice now since I take any extra on the pack and rub it all over my body. People don’t believe epson salts baths help with pain but they do. Natural medicine has a long history of being very effective.
How often are you doing the castor oil pack?

Instead of pharmaceutical/meds, give a list of detailed good dietary practices. Kids still drink soda and favorite snacks with mystery chemicals
.MDs are clueless due to meds pushing, UC Med specialist gave me a condescending look when I refused meds..I said Ill adjust me food intake. . If one has these diseases,
clinics should have detailed diet clinics for patients. Nowadays why not weekend video info clinics. Cancer friend, lots of interventions from top medical center but his wife still buys crap in Costco and makes carb high foods.
I have fatty liver and on my path of reversal with diet and lifestyle changes. My GI doctor no longer does Fibroscan. She literally sits in the office for 5 minutes and gives me a mathematical score of what stage I’m in. I’ve been able to google the how to on that…going to the doctor is a joke.
WONDERFUL INFO DRS!!❤❤👍👍👍
Eat broccoli onion garlic and avocado add water drink twice daily ! Mix in a vitamix amd consume
Thankyou. ‼️ Mark
Great information!
Excellent video
I've been told by my PCP I had fatty liver for years, but it was never explained what that meant.. I was just told to lose weight. Now I'm advanced fatty liver and was prescribed yet another medication. My cardiologist has been much more informative about what I can do correct it.
It should be considered a criminal activity not to explain your disease to you & tell you explicitly how current studies indicate how ot can be cured.
@@annemccarron2281 yup Love long time patient, and nurse.
Where is the info in show notes about the vitamin E recommended?! How about suggestions w/ supplement other brands?
Also, castor oil packs.. they work great !!
Eat fruit in the a.m. only otherwise it sits in ferments in your gut with your other food and causes fatigue and if you have any kind of blood sugar or gut issues. I suggest keeping it minimal berries are best lowest amount of sugar too much fruit is just way too sugary and there is no one who loves fruit more than me.
Some people don't understand insulin resistance. could you explain please 😊
After regular overnight fasting (like before breakfast or coffee) your glucose level in the blood is above 100. Inevitably the insulin is there (unless you type 2 diabetic) but it's not doing its job. High or extremely low glucose levels do damage to the entire body.
Yeah Doc, where is the list of vitamins? You said you’re gonna have here to make sure people get the right vitamins and not crap. I don’t see any list. Why would you say that not have any list?
I think someone left the list in one of the comments up above.
Cool video mate!!!!! Andre
Excellent overview on fatty liver disease and the bit on thyroid connect❤
Thank you
Time stamps pleaseeee!!🤍
I lowered my AST and ALT to 28 and 24 after having an ultrasound that gave me a fatty liver diagnosis. I went on a ketogenic diet 22 months ago and received those labs after 18 months. Should I have any other tests?
I have fatty liver but my Platelets are HIGH...I'm just going to ignore every and eat good and exercise as I've been 😊
Mark Hyman doesn’t let him talk! He interrupts a lot!
Great video and so much information here thanks, but following link to show notes I get 404 page not found. Anyway, liked and subscribed!
I had no issue. It is the same as what is said on video.
Take milk thistle and tumeric
Yes, helps but must change diet. No processed foods, no wheat.
I just started golden milk every other day I have to add milk thistle
Can someone please list all thew supplement they talked about?

Ok, I expect that I’m insulin resistant pre diabetic.I believe in the functional medicine approach. Insurance doesn’t pay for much there. If I pay out of pocket for the blood work. I’ve got these individualized results. Now what? How do I find a doctor that my insurance will pay for help me with my results. I live in Cleveland OH area. I have friends that went through CCF functional medicine programs, paid a lot and were not impressed. My PC doctor is all about the symptom/drug game, which I don’t play. I’m 10-15 lbs overweight. I’m 99% Mediterranean plant based. I feel like this shouldn’t be this freaking complicated. I’m not rich, but I have decent insurance. I’m trying to find a doctor my insurance will pay for at least partially. No luck so far. So frustrating.
I would look at what Dr Boz teaches, the ketogenic diet to lose weight and change the nutrition. Have a great day.
You can find dr Boz on UA-cam.
Dr Boz and Dr E are both in Florida. Does Dr Boz do telehealth?
I agree with you, it’s very difficult to find a great functional medicine doctor. It’s also difficult to afford. But it’s not these doctors’s fault not problem. They deserve to be paid, and well paid. (I don’t think Dr Hyman is taking patients anymore, and he wouldn’t have room on his appt list if he did.)

Go see a naturopathic doctor or a gastrointestinal doctor
Lectins really can cause major health issues. And c reactive protein should be tested. Take Vitamin D daily and Vitamin c, which was not mentioned
How can someone get an appointment with two?
I don’t think Dr Hyman is taking new patients, not sure. But this other doctor, I think he said, works at Dr Hyman’s Functional Medical Clinic. It’s in Lenox Massachusetts, I think.
My brother died from fatty liver disease. He never drank alcohol. I believe it was from blood pressure medications.
What blood tests tell you if you have a fatty liver? Thanks
You can get an abdomen ultrasound to see the liver. Found out by chance I had mild fatty liver as I was originally supposed to ultrasound a gallbladder
Liver enzymes test. Your liver enzymes include alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT).
Coconut oil caused mine
I turned yellow alt 590
Wow what was in that oil, lots of chemicals I bet, cold pressed organic is best
I use organic refined coconut oil in my coffee, we bake with it, sometimes cook with it, for years. My ALT, AST, are in normal ranges as are my lipids. Are you sure it was the coconut oil?
@@karensuarez2113 yes my Dr said stop it and my ranges are now normal.
So weird. Maybe different people can tolerate it? I’ll never touch it again and I advise u to switch to olive oil but maybe something in my liver can’t tolerate it. It took 10 years of using it for cooking and mct oil too before I went yellow
Crazy. I’m over 40 I thought it was healthy. Must be the high saturated fat. Olive oil now for everything
@@carolined5923 only ever used organic cold pressed. Whole Foods, natures way….. I loved the smell
Thank you Sir for detailed information. After struggling with fatty liver for years, My uncle started taking Planet Ayurveda's Yakritplihantak Churna. Within three months, my uncle liver health improved significantly. Highly recommended .
Too bad you don´t ship supplements to Europe. Hard to find trustworthy place to buy supplements you suggested
Mom to 35 year old son with CHD HLHS whose liver will go first and already in cirrhosis ... stage 2. I would like to know if there is anything he can do to slow it down - diet or supplements. He has a great doc following him in Philly, BUT ... we know the Fontan surgery to re-route blood for his lack of a left ventricle increases pressures and results in liver damage. I want to help him.
Is lactulose OTC?
Great insights! Planet Ayurveda’s products have been a blessing for my wellness journey.
Plus with hashimotos, I was told it’s risky to take ashwaganda?
Very nice video… also liver detox capsules by planet Ayurveda are very effective in treating fatty liver.
Pls let your guest talk
FYI. The AI that provides the transcript is virtually useless when you cite the names of supplements, treatments etc. read through your video transcript. Very disappointed
Can Hep C cause fatty liver even if cured?
Where can I get this vitamin e that you both talking about. Who do i go by having these test my fatty liver blood work?
A gastrointestinal doctor. Or a Naturopathic doctor. Get the blood tests.
Are there any functional medical clinics in UK
No tests as discussed nor supplements were in the accompanying text , in link. Am looking at the text Show Notes, and there is none of the details. Just very basic summations of topics in each segment, with no actual information nor details nor specifics.
For gut problems, eat lots of mushrooms to fix your gut health
My brother was my best friend and he passed away 3 yrs ago @ age 52 from "Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver". I (we) miss him every day and it mad me change the way I live. I SO appreciate this deep dive into liver disease. Sheesh, who licks golf ⛳️ balls? Im sorry, thats crazy business. 😮
My Baby Brother is 41 and is in End Stages and I feel so helpless right now. He is 1300 miles away and we still do not know what is causing this. We just now found out they diagnosed him 2 years ago as Bipolar while treating him for elevated ammonia levels @ Laureate in Tulsa Ok (which is liver damage and should have been taken to the hospital, not the mental hospital). The doctors are just now telling him he is in the End Stages after spending 2 weeks in the hospital in the last month. He has to see a therapist while he is going through all of this and she said, "She sees no signs of Bipolar" When treating the ammonia levels he is no longer disoriented. My heart completely breaks every day for him and his kids. It is the most horrible situation. We cannot get straight answers from anyone.
@@swsarahmasonbipolar is tied to the high carb hamster wheel. Check out Keto & Dr Boz. She's amazing.
My condolences. He was too young. I have struggled for years and my doctors ignored me. I am finally getting to see a GI doctor by Zoom in November. 😢
@@swsarahmasonI was diagnosed as bipolar too. Lies. It was neuroinflammation from the fatty liver. So sorry.
Keto eliminated my fatty liver in just a few months.
Cut out all saturaded fats, processed sugar, LDL Cholesterol and trans fats from your diet, that's all you need to know.
Keto is not for everyone. Many get healthy through vegan or Mediterranean diet
Anyone who really knows metabolism knows the real value of keto, but so many people have misinfornation about keto from unreliable sources .....its easier just to not recommend keto ,sometimes , because of the silly phobia some people have about it .
The host TALKS TOO MUCH. I've had enough.
He has a habit of doing that.
Go home 🥸
The host is an expert as well …. What are you talking about
Am tired of people commenting this. Dr Hyman is a saint. He has been the leader in bringing this kind of extremely helpful knowledge to the people and has been educating us all for years. He is a brilliant functional medical doctor. His guests are also. Dr Hyman gets excited and has a lot of knowledge to add, and as someone who has adhd, I understand how he gets excited to add what he knows.
We have got some real good diet based and herbal medicine remedies to not only reverse liver related issues but also keep it healthy in Indian and Chinese traditional practices.
I hope Dr. Yousef Elyaman practices what he preaches.
Dr. Elyaman is part of the 75% of the population that is overweight. If you're going to talk the talk then you gotta walk the walk. He's > 30% body fat for sure. I would encourage him to cut the carbs and increase protein and fats and maybe try to get 10000 steps a day. Just doing my part.
You know the dude?
Maybe it's his high carb Mediterrian Diet 🙂
