More than 3 years later....I have written 22 pages of notes on every turn of these 2 playthrough videos to help me learn this game. Thanks so much for your time and effort producing these.
Hi Colin, Just got a copy of Gaia project this week (bit late to the party) but these videos are amazing to learn with, thanks! My first game last night (solo) I watched the video and followed what you did until the A.I. Started doing very different things (second round). Yeah, after that - with the training wheels off I ended up having no ore, no money and lost very badly. You make it look very easy :)
After 8 games now two watches of this, I still can’t work out exactly how you made it look that easy, and I can’t get close to beating beating the automa 😂
In boardgamegeek, we have posts of high scores using predetermined seeds and a static order of automa cards. That way you can find the optimal moves and max scores other have gotten with the same setups.
Hello Colin! Here is a small tip to level up your Hadsch Hallas game. Once you have your institute built and a 6c federation token, try to use the 3q action as often as possible (or the 2q action when you have sufficient planet types to make it worthwhile). Even if you have to use 12c to convert to 3q, you will gain half of them back and 7vp, so it's a conversion rate of 6c->7vp which is pretty amazing if you ask me. Great job on the videos, I discovered your channel with the Mage Knight playthroughs, didn't know you were a Gaia Project fan! This is in my top 3 games of all time for sure.
@@OneStopCoopShop It looks like a lot of fun! I am just learning it now and your video was a great help. We are hoping to do a 2-player video of it soon and I'm very excited about getting to play it!
@@OneStopCoopShop Thanks man! We'll give it a few practice runs before shooting to make sure we know what is going on, but that will all be fun too. Thanks for helping me learn the game with your clear video and explanations. I love the way you also really enjoyed played it!
@@OneStopCoopShop Hi Colin! I meant to let you know before, but we released our video of Gaia Project. If you would like to see it you can search for "All Aboard Boardgames Gaia Project". Thanks again for your video. It made it much easier for me to learn the game. All the best!
@@OneStopCoopShop Would love to see a behind the scenes video on how you film your playthroughs. How many cameras do you use? What sort of lighting setup etc ☺
@@OneStopCoopShop Wow, so much effort put in to these! I'm all the more appreciative, thanks for all your work and what you and your team bring to this hobby 👌❤
great playtrough, and i rly like the way you do the videos, you do it perfectly fast and explain enough on each step for it to make sence for me who has not played it first, im getting this tomorrow in the mail, and that is boardgame day att the library so ill deff bring it there, keep up the great work, i hope you make a vid on fuji koro if you are able to get a hand on a copy,
Really appreciated how clearly you went through the rules and how you explained your decision making when playing the faction. Have you got the Lost Fleet expansion? Would love to see you try solo'ing that, with its increased complexity (additional planet types and the ship action spaces)...
When you move up in research area, like you did in the end of this video, you should get ore, credits and charges immediately as in the income. It's specified in manual.
I think they're right. You took the 4 points for the first trading post, going from 36 => 40, but then you never went up from 40 => 44 when you upgraded to a second trading post that turn. So you should have still been ahead of the AI at that point.
Hi Colin, I hope you are well. I'm considering getting Gaia Project for solo only and as usual I'm pulled into your enthusiasm during the playthrough. Given that it was a few years ago, how do you find it now? Do you still play it, or have you passed it on? Thank!
Thanks for watching Jack!! I ended up moving it on it is a great game if you like deep euros but that isn't generally my style! If you like the idea of space colonizing though this is for you!!
@@OneStopCoopShop thanks for the quick reply. That does appeal to me so i reckon i'll give it a shot, it also seems to keep it's value, just in case i also end up parting with it! thanks!
WOW I never thaught about round bonus being 5 points for GAiNING a fed.tile.. always played it only for making a federation... so that means getting to the top on brown tech track is even better than I thaught!!! :D (crazy how one cna miss stuff even in my fav game !)
HAHAHA! I mean I could of played that wrong, but it says in the rulebook gaining a federation token by any means, so I am assuming that includes the brown track! LOVE THIS GAME! :)
Wow top 10. Playthrough was awesome as always. Wanted to ask if it was worth it for solo only but you answered that. Another game on the to buy list. You like this one better than Anachrony?
At 34.25, shouldnt you have also taken that blue tech tile?? Love your videos...ive watched this one about 3 times now...this game is not easy to follow via the instruction booklet!!
For anyone watching this great video before playing, taking the advanced tech tile would be a separate action. You can do this instead of taking one of the standard tech tiles if you meet some prerequisites. 1. You are adjacent to it (step 4 or 5); 2. You have a federation tile to flip (see the icon in the bottom right as a reminder); 3. You have a standard tech tile to overlay the advanced tech tile onto. It replaces that old tech. Also, something easily missed if it you do take an advanced tech, you can move up on any of the research tracks. Enjoy!
a few play mistakes, that would have changed the game slightly, but in the end, shouldn't have made a difference in you winning. Main one is the build at 15:30 You upgrade a research station in an academy, but with the previous build, you just had returned a trade post, so you should have placed that one on the board out of range of your planets. At 30:45, you are forgetting that the planet they are settling as because of a faction action, and as a result, would have looked first to closest to your planets, but this would have resulted in the same planet to be chosen. Overall, it was a nice playthrough. It does seem that you were very lucky with the draws of the automata, and he never really had a chance. I prefer the game a bit more in multiplayer, but will bring out the solo once in a while.
I asked on bgg just waiting for an answer. They have their own terraform cost which makes me wonder... but I played it the right way I think! We shall see
@@OneStopCoopShop they are not a planet type. They can be made into a Gaia Planet by Gaia forming them which will then make them into a planet that is yours once you put a mine on it.
From what I recall from Terra Mystica, building a federation equivalent is automatic, which makes it harder to set up a huge last round like you did in this playthrough.
I don't think it makes that much of a difference. While it is indeed automatic in TM, you can just as easy set things up at power 6, and upgrade in the round with the bonus.
If I would play several games in a row, I could see getting comfortable. However, pulling this off the shelf after a few months for a one time play seems fiddly. Think solo is great for learning but this will shine multi-player.

Good point. That does mean the resources required in round 6 are slightly different (ore/gold instead of power).
Better Late than Never: in Gaia founding a Federation is indeed an action .
This is a fiddly solo game. Great game which requires deep strategy while simultaneously running a solo bot.
I get you, personally it does not feel fiddly to me at all but I did play 6 times in a row so that helped make it feel comfortable!

each to their own right? 😀😀
Completely agree. With the depth of play and variety due to the number of factions, this will become many people's favorite solo game.
J played my first game solo against easiest difficulty and got obliterated
It is not an easy game!
