I have both a full-size BoT and the J&H Aerospace Micro BoT. I downloaded R. Burgo's HLG plan from outerzone a while back but never got around to building it (no indoor flying area and Scottish weather is normally too windy for flying things like this outside). Your video has convinced me I need one anyway, so it will join the list for this season's build projects. Thank you for that.
Thank you for taking the time to comment I am looking forward to seeing yours ☺️🙏 I have always thought they were a beautiful model even to just display. I ended up building two of them, the one in the video and then a lighter version with the more careful selection of wood. It flies real nice at about 8g 😉👍
@@Gordon-Scott I agree there has never been a more beautiful glider than a BoT and although being a 1979 design, in the right conditions they can still score highly in RES R/C glider contests.Mine has. My HLG version may end up as a hangar queen, for display only, given our meteo conditions. That said your 8g version will act as a spur to my efforts. As a matter of interest have you tried building a wing with the full-size (outer portions more heavily swept up than the central portions) dihedral arrangement as an HLG rather than the gull wing version. I realise the gull-wing makes more sense for an HLG even if it's the reverse of the original full size arrangement 🙂🙂
I have not tried any other versions or experimentations with this model. I’m really not that experienced and I am just learning as I go. There was an elderly gentleman at our local flying field that flew gliders and rubber band, free flight. I was fascinated, and when he passed away, I inherited his tools and a few of his models. So I am learning and carrying on his tradition at our local field. ☺️
@@Gordon-Scott I appreciate your attempts to carry on that deceased modelers traditions, although having seen some of your other videos I think you do yourself down as far as experience goes. I am of a similar generation to that gentleman (I'm 76) although unlike him I gave up free-flight gliders and rubber powered models for the most part, in favor of R/C, more years ago than I care to remember . Probably more than.50 years back. When I get around to building the HLG BoT I might try building both versions to establish what difference the two wing versions (gull wing and normal polyhedral type) might give. Either way, I'm sure you have better things to do than deal with my ramblings so I'll leave commenting there - with thanks for your patient responses to all my queries so far. 🙂
@@IainEPaterson I have a general understanding of aeronautics, the basics. I have not been at it long and usually fly drones or fixed wing. My model building experience is limited, although I did start making Catapult launch gliders about three years ago. I am learning as I go, and I am going to take your comment that I am “playing it down” as a compliment 😁🙏 And you are not bothering me I am happy to talk to you 😉👍
Awesome build and flight. 👏🏼👏🏼I can’t wait for summer. I’ve always wanted one of those gliders you toss in the air and fly them till the come back down. Thanks for sharing brother 🤙🏼
very interesting workmanship details..minutes 2:56, 3:48 and so on make me think that careful calculations are really needed in engineering design..it's really nice to be with you this morning and a cup of coffee..thank you.
Yes, of course I really enjoy watching your videos... because I don't want to comment just "Good, amazing and so on" like most other people say... but I try to understand and learn from minute to minute... I hope you understand me... thank you for your good time.
@@iQcreativeQu I understand you just fine. Your English is very good. I enjoy your engineering as well, and your little boats. ☺️🙏 I am going to have to try to build one someday myself. 😊
I'm so glad that you took the time to make this video. It was as fascinating to watch, as it was enjoyable.👏👏👏 Watching you fly it after all that work was rewarding, and judging by the smile on your face, it was rewarding for you too. Thank you so much for sharing your efforts, and victories. I could watch 100 videos like this one.👍♥
Amazing and inspirational! You've got a superior knowledge of flight, Gordon! Leading edge, trailing edge, aeronautical wizardry, and it flies like a dream 💯 When I "built" my first quadcopter and it flew, I felt empowered. But I really just assembled, wired, soldered, and programmed components on an airframe... in retrospect, nothing like a hand made and tuned glider. Lockheed Martin could use your talents! BTW I'm still working on the feather glider, one challenge at a time, please! ✌️😎
I don’t know if I would qualify as a janitor at Lockheed 😅 I have one of those feather gliders from Microbirds, So small you can fly it any place. It’s sitting in the box unbuilt, I’m going to get to it real soon. 😁👍
@@Gordon-Scott 🤦♂️ lol! Thank you sir Gordon 😉 I've twice sky'd out on a boomer and lost my gliders 😭 Thankfully I found both mine and still fly them both one just has shorter/clipoed wings than the other both were 2m thermal duration gliders now one is a warmliner... Lol! All the guys I fly gliders with has lost one... But it sure is awesome when you hunt and hook up that thermal, core it and sky out! 😌🙌🏼
Thanks Gene, Not really skills just slow and methodical 😁 It’s really easy and I’m having a feeling I made it look difficult. Which was not my intention. 😬

Nice lines . Got some nice flights at the end there . Sweet .
I've never liked the gull wing design,,, but I can't deny they fly realy good.
Nice model.
The one thing I noticed about it is when it gets into ground effect. It does not want to land, It just goes and goes 🤷🏻
