ok y'all. for those who say black washing "doesn't exist", let's put it this way. when someone white washes someone who has dark skin, it's bad. so when someone black washes someone with light skin, it's equally as bad... why choose one and not the other too? being tan does exist, but it shouldn't make the skin color from being at least medium, maybe even fair, to deep.

Hi! So the thing is white washing was made to cover up and censor black and brown rep in media. While "backwashing" was made to add some more rep, it isn't censoring the fact that their Asian but more people seeing a character as mixed (like blasian). Hope this helps

Sanemi isn't albino that is just a headcannon some of the KNY fandom holds, also some people with albinism are black lol, if they come from black parents then they are black even if their skin lacks pigment, now not all people with albinism is black just like not all mixed individuals are mixed with black. you see darker/brown skin and you think it immediately equals = african/african american?
because seeing that makes me assume you guys can’t comprehend that asian people can come in a range of skin tone! Asia isn’t only made up of pale-skinned asians when depending on the region a person can be born in also affects the shade of skin they are from the latitude and amount of sunlight they get! this why I saying that the characters in the video are dark-skinned asians due to the fact asians can literally be dark without being mixed! so I am no changing the subject or gaslighting anybody when I am still discussing upon the topic of why the creator made the characters dark-skinned.
for sanemi, I attempted to look up if it is a canonical fact that he is albino; and no I haven’t found any official statement made by the author saying he is albino. so it is mostly a headcanon made by fans given that sanemi is the only white-haired person within his own family.
and blackwashing was a term coined in tiktok of 2020 - maybe around the time we were stuck at home during when covid was at high risk - with no actual historical context since it was created to go against the fact representation was being made for poc that have darker shades of skin. poc can be lighter skinned, but not every poc is lighter skinned! as in most media you never really see a darker skinned poc in center focus aside from being that one ‘token’ character in a group amongst paler-skinned characters. then other times they aren’t even mainly portrayed in a way that doesn’t make it seem lackluster.
whitewashing doesn’t do that. whitewashing is literally the erasure of minorities. it is used to shame poc and ethnic features; because usually when a person whitewashes a poc character it is used in a racist context when they make them white believing their darker skin is dirty in their eyes and everyone else’s that agree with it. it’s essentially cleansing them. it caters to white people when it strips away a poc identity.
here the creator does not do that. they never stated the characters were african, they never said the characters weren’t asian, and y’all seem to not even understand that not all of asian is only made up of pale-skinned asians.
even here, the comment that is now deleted was offensive in calling them the characters in the video ‘crisped’??? if they were going to be rude when addressing their own issue in seeing characters melanin then don’t comment at all.
then another commenter I was arguing with proceeded to check the creator’s previous videos and compare rengoku’s dark skin tone to a caricature - which, I have to say, shocked me because where’s the similarities??? just say you’re intentionally being offensive at that point because a caricature is a negative exaggerate of a black person’s features that is used to make fun of negative stereotypes made against Africans/african Americans. to even say that, knowing your only saying it because rengoku has dark skin, is ignorant.
Third of all, to address another opposing comment, just because demon slayer is set in Japan with fictional elements - demons, breathing styles, etc - doesn’t exempt the fact it still could be dark-skinned asians around. such as gyomei since he isn’t as pale as all of the other demon slayers.
y’all can’t seem the address the fact you’re only saying all of this because you think asians are only supposed to be pale. if they aren’t, then suddenly they aren’t asian at all.

Making Sanemi darker/black is literally so stupid. He is albino meaning his skin will ALWAYS be pale white. Even black people with albinism is pale with almost white like blonde hair.
