Deux mélodies hébraïques: Kaddisch (Maurice Ravel) - Cantor Ben Ellerin

The word Kaddish means sanctification in Hebrew, and the prayer is a sanctification of God's name. It is a prayer that praises God and expresses a yearning for the establishment of God's kingdom on earth. The emotional reactions inspired by the Kaddish for many come from its association with funerals and its recitation by mourners. This setting by Ravel sets the text of the Chatzi Kaddish, a shorter version used regularly in liturgical settings.

Y’hei sh’mei raba m’varach l’alam ul’almei almaya. Yitbarach v’yishtabach v’yitpaar v’yitromam v’yitnasei, v’yit’hadar v’yitaleh v’yit’halal sh’mei d’Kudsha B’rich Hu, l’eila min kol birchata v’shirata, tushb’chata v’nechamata, daamiran b’alma. V’imru: Amen.
Exalted and hallowed be God’s great name in the world that God created, according to plan. May God’s majesty be revealed in the days of our lifetime and the life of all Israel-speedily, imminently. To which we say: Amen.
